A metal glove you put on your hand, when you want to fist things to death. You know, like, hit them. With your fist.

Hound is definitely holding a bow.

People on 2ch say that Dragoon has a gun. It could just be a fancy hilt though? I haven't seen a good scan of that character design...

Given what "Dragoon" has historically meant, having a gun makes perfect sense.

Dragoon has what looks like a gun with a bayonet attached. You can see it right below/beside the Cestus's artwork.

Dragoon's the tank class, though. I think Hoplite is the only time they've tried a back-row tank before.

I am excited because, for the first time, a video game Dragoon gets some scintilla of historical accuracy.

IF EOV keeps enemy formations you may need a gun to tank their back row...

You mean Dragoons didn't, historically, jump so high into the sky that it took an entire turn for them to come back down?

A major turning point in the American Civil War was the British loss of the Battle of Saratoga when too many of their front row tanking Dragoons Jumped simultaneously, exposing their high glass cannon DPS Black Mages to a devastating assault by the American Mystic Knight brigade.

Dragoons don't, historically, really have the ability to jump at all. Dragoons were heavy infantry, heavily armed but primarily with guns, that were transported on horseback because they'd've never got where they were going if they'd walked - they carried too much. Eventually they just became either light or heavy cavalry, mostly, though "dragoons" are technically still around as a military unit in the UK.

But basically, historic dragoons couldn't just not jump and hover for a full round of combat, they'd have had a real hard time getting both feet off the ground at once. I think a human tank with a gun is more interesting than a Fizzy Lifting Traitor so I'm happy to see a return to some semblance of historical accuracy here.

This post is very historically inaccurate.

The British didn't fight in the American Civil War!

The modern use of the military term "dragoon" is a tank regiment, because they're the evolution of cavalry. Though that might just be something still held onto by the Commonwealth, and not by much else.

Of course, that also makes them possibly being a gun tank in EO5 even more appropriate!

Man, I'd love for Dragoon to be a gun tank. Even if it's more like the Ogre Battle version and it's just a heavily armored melee fighter that prefers swords and spears, I'm cool with that.

Extrapolating some class ideas from the names/basic descriptions I saw on nintendo-everything's article. I doubt anything but Fencer/Herbalist/Warlock are very similar to previous EO classes:
Fencer - obviously a Landsknecht, seems built around "chasing" skills (i.e. attacks follow-up with bonus damage) and also predictive defense/damage
Herbalist - sounds a lot like Medic
Warlock - sounds a lot like Alchemist/Zodiac/Runemaster, with its elemental damage focus
Necromancer - sounds like a combo of Hexer and Ninja/Wildling from 3
Reaper - probably a Dark Hunter/Nightseeker type. I'm betting more Dark Hunter than Nightseeker, but I imagine it kinda combines damage and debuffs/ailments like those classes have.
Shaman - sounds kinda, sorta like Mystic or War Magus. Probably more like Mystic.
Dragoon - mentioned as a tank, possibly not super important as one though? EO4 made a Fortress-less party viable from the very beginning. Pretty open on what kind of defenses this thing could bring, or tanking or whatever.
Cestus - the description makes it sound like a punching melee, aka Monks in most other RPGs, but I'm hoping it's a bit more of a pure brawler and not a mystical hand to hand fighter. I really hope it's the big unsubtle damage dealer, like how I wish Monk had been viable as in EO3. It had punching, but healing was way more important/effective even if you went all-in on the punching side.

I honestly like the idea of race/class restrictions in a game like this - it means I might be "forced" to use a race like humans to make a few classes, but it also means I might come up with less conventional party members since I like to use non-human races when I make characters in fantasy RPGs.

Real Talk: It was originally about The Battle of Appomottox, but then I thought the British were more Dragoon-ish. I apparently forgot to change Civil to Revolutionary though. Oops!

You know, the Mystic Knights get all the credit for that victory, but I'm compelled to point out that the British wouldn't have had to rely on glass cannons at Saratoga if Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Goblins hadn't stolen all their real cannons from Fort Ticonderoga.

Incidentally, if you have the chance to visit Fort Ticonderoga when they're performing one of their reenactments, it's well worth the trip; the timed teleport maze escape is top notch.

promo video reveals the races are Earthrun, Lunaria, Therian and... Bronie.

(Don't get too excited about the video, it's mostly a "concept art flying around" one with a handful of tiny gameplay shots at the end deal)

The battle videos do confirm that summons are outside of normal party slots though! There is both a death spirit and a hunting dog out at the same time in one battle, in a little row in front of the party that appears to just be for summons. So, it's not like EO3 where Ninja clones and Wildling helpers were mutually exclusive.

I don't know, man. I still got pretty excited.

I'm surprised how much of a big deal they're making out of All These Voice Actors, but I guess some people are familiar with voice actors the way I'm familiar with, say, NBA players. Still, reeeal glad there's a no-voice option.
