I had to abuse the Moonlight to beat Laurence. I'd put my money on him as the hardest boss in the game, honestly. I've got no idea how you're supposed to deal with his second phase without sword lasers.

You can bait his AI into a pretty safe attack to counter semi-reliably.

Carefully? I don't remember if I died more times to him or to Lady Maria

Laurence was the last boss I fought. Hard as nails, but I still think the Orphan is harder.

I definitely had more trouble with Laurence than those other two my first time. They all have absurdly high HP, but you can't parry Laurence to tear huge chunks off quickly and relatively safely. Also has a much longer runback if you die, which really annoyed me when I was learning the fight.

Cool music though.

After getting frustrated with the DLC I finally decided to check out Yahar'gul, and holy shit is the base game easier.

Every time that damn fish ogre comes barrelling down the hill and one-shots a player, I think of this picture

Oh yeah definitely. I think in terms of difficulty curve, the DLC is meant to be tackled after you've beaten everything except the final boss.

I think some of the final chalice dungeons are technically the hardest content in the game, outside of NG+.

Welp, Wet Nurse is down. Simon's Bowblade is really, really good against the base game bosses.

Now just to finish up the DLC bosses, reach the Pthumerian Queen, and (uggggggggh) do the well.

If you use the item that aggros enemies on each other (Shaman's Knife?) it makes the well situation significantly easier

Just so you know... the latter chalice dungeons are full of enemies roughly on par with NG+2 difficulty. Luckily, chalice dungeons are always the same difficulty, regardless of what cycle of NG+ you are on! So since (it seems?!) you're trying to get that Platinum trophy, there's no harm in finishing the game first, and then maybe beefing yourself up by playing through some of NG+ first!

I will say my playthrough of NG+ went way faster than the first time through, but I will also say, the latter part of the game is WAY fucking harder, and for that reason, way fucking more fun and satisfying to finish!

Also, the platinum trophy is going to require beating the game multiple times anywayy!!

ALSO! If you haven't played online yet, this is also a good time to do so! I assume you're in the 70-80 level range, and that allows you to help with a very wide range of bosses!

The later Chalice dungeons will give you way more blood echoes than simply playing the main game will, even in NG+, so that's also a valid way to beef up your character.

I'm actually around level 100 from doing chalices earlier.

I was like 150 when I cleared the final Chalices, I think.

Also, who else wasted a bunch of time using that blood gem that deals extra kin damage on Orphan?

I always had a vs. kin weapon in reserve, but it didn't do as much damage as my main weapon so I didn't end up getting hung up that way. That fight was a lot of fun to learn though, even though I burned through probably 200 each of blood vials and quicksilver bullets.

It probably took me a couple hours to beat, but was a lot more fair than I had expected based on how people talk about it (with the exception of that bullshit lightning attack).

PSA: Orphan is not kin!

For me, the two most important runes vs Orphan:

1) Lightning resist
With this rune + proper gear, you can stack your lightning resist pretty friggin' high. This lets you eat one of his lightning attacks, full stop. If you are close to the Orphan when he does one of these lightning attacks, you can get up and wail on him while he is still in his attack animation and recover a good portion of your lost health. Risky, but it's how I beat him in NG+.

2) Restore health from viscerals
There's are several openings for viscerals in the Orphan fight during the first phase. With this rune, each time you land a visceral, you pretty reliably restore ALL your health.

Orphan is a super super fun fight. Hard as nails, but yeah like you said, very fair.

I honestly struggle to think of an "unfair" boss fight in all of Bloodborne, except for maybe some of the chalice bosses.

I could never get this to work, and boy oh boy did I try. I finally beat them through a combination of obstinate persistence and luck.

Most obnoxious enemies in Bloodborne:

1. Anchor Sharks
2. Winter Lanterns
3. ???

Ludwig confounds me because I do feel like parts of the fight are the bad kind of hard where the camera and a lack of proper telegraphing and stuff just make it feel messy, and so I would want to rank it under other bosses which felt more like The Good Kind Of Challenging...AND YET, the contrast/transition to his second form and the music that kicks in and everything also makes Ludwig maybe my favorite 'moment', or whatever you want to call it, in the whole game.

Seriously, him regaining some measure of lucidity...or, maybe more cynically/honestly, just succumbing enough to delusion and nostalgia to go insane enough to forget what he really is now...along with awakening his dignity or chivalry or whatever you want to call it, and dropping the feral rampaging and instead fighting all upright with a glowing sword like some noble knight while still looking like that, with THIS music playing just made for a mood and tone that was truly unique and iconic. Plus, while I struggled with his first form and died to it many times, I actually defeated his second form the first time I reached it, meaning it stayed just this one great striking moment in my memories of the game, as opposed to it being something that I ever had the chance to get sick of.

I would put almost every enemy hunter on the list. They hit way too hard and possess way too much health for opponents who are supposed to be on your level.
