Default Guys I played Rez vr at gdc and saw the face of God

Seriously, one of the most amazing experiences I've had in gaming. It was just sublime.

It didn't feel like vr as much as being in an incredible imax theater floating through the level. The reticle can be directed by head motion or stick, and I used both. It was so good I found myself laughing with joy and just smiling ear to ear the whole time. When I took off the headset there was a crowd gathered around my screen just staring.

I don't think the other vr games are worth it for me, but this one sure is.

If I remember correctly PSVR is going to be $400 for the headset, you need the Eye, and you can use two Move controllers or a DS4 for controls.

I'm sure VR will make for some great walking sims and adventure games down the line, but $460 for the headset and required camera still ain't cheap. That's more than than the PS4 itself, and for that price I could get several PS4 games instead.

Sold. $520 including the $60 game, almost $600 with tax on all that, whatever, sold. When exactly can I get it into my eyeballs?

This is the only reason why I want the PSVR. But the cost, man...

Thankfully we are living in a digital future. Even if the game has a limited print run, I know it'll be available in two years, when either I can spend significant amount of money in something like this or after PSVR has crashed and burned so badly that I can get it on any bargain bin for fifty bucks.

The game and all of its necessary hardware/accessories will be $4.99 in a remaindered stock bin a maximum eight months from release.

This is not me saying the game is bad, it is me saying that VR is going to crash and burn on an Atari 2600 Pac-Man/E.T industry destroying level.

I'm really excited about VR, but I had my first experience using a Gear VR a few weeks ago and I was taken aback by how limited the resolution and field of view were. At first I figured that was because the Gear is the budget version of VR, but in terms of pure pixels, I think it actually has more than the Oculus/Vive/Morpheus. I already thought VR was out of my price range in 2016, but this experience kind of made me want to wait for the next major round of upgrades before even considering paying for a kit.

But boy howdy do I wish I could just get one for free. Screen door effect or not, there's a lot of amazing stuff you can do in VR that I'd love to get my hands on.

I've still never played Rez, so I'd like to at least pick up the PS4 version of that. I may pick up a VR thing way down the road if it's incredibly cheap or if I come in to a large sum of money unexpectedly.

Could this thing work with any 3D PS3 games? I know it's a different kind of 3D and I don't expect that it would, but it would be a huge bonus if they somehow worked that out. ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and Wipeout HD in 3D would be rad. Maybe they could port them to PS4?

Wipeout has a first person option.

I was imagining a virtual screen in front of you that was slightly 3D. I have no idea how VR works, I've never used it. It's just a shame that they now have two kinds of 3D with a few games each that use incompatible and very expensive technologies.

This is my feeling too, but I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of kids these days. I'm guessing VR combined with minecraft is a hell of a thing.

Jimmy Fucknuckle down the chippy doesn't want to wear a "fucking dickhead mask" to play FIFA. His words, not mine.

And that's why VR will fail.

Not that I'm defending VR or think it's going to be the best thing since sliced bread, but Jimmy Fucknuckle also thought the Wii was a stupidly-named kid console and that the iPod was lame and expensive. Just sayin'.

Not necessarily. Your POV could just replace the camera and let you swoop in, out, and around the environments around the characters, or simply stick you over their shoulder.

There's a lot of money working on brute-forcing this into every household in the western world, but this smells more like google glass than the wii.

I don't think it will be either of those things. Glass was a very expensive product with almost no obvious applications. VR is also expensive, to the point where it won't see mass-scale adoption any time soon, but some of its applications are braindead-simple and really effective. "Be somewhere else" is a very powerful hook, no matter how little content you build around it, and outside of VR I don't see how you can get that feeling. The 45 minutes that I spent with the Gear VR left me feeling completely detached from the real world, and that is something I would definitely be willing to shell out for down the line. Once you can get a good headset for $200-300, I think we'll start seeing a lot more adoption of the tech.

Yeah, it is difficult to discern how much of the hype is real and how much of it is a side effect of basically every VC that got bored of gambling on mobile games 18 months ago deciding to dump its money in VR startups instead.
