Yeah, I think the yahar'gul hunters are definitely one of the biggest roadblocks in the game. As is the crow hunter, though she is entirely optional.

Even if you're not going to go all the way upgrading the Boom Hammer, it might be handy to get it as far as you can easily manage for fighting other hunters. You can chain together R2 and L1 repeatedly to stagger and safely take off big chunks of HP every time your stamina refills. It even works well on Maria.

Definitely. Much like Father Gascoigne, I've never beat these guys without cheesing them.

Can't you just go around them? I don't think I've ever actually beat them...

...can you??? As far as I know, you have to go through the cathedral where the three of them are parked waiting to ambush you.

If you can avoid them entirely, that would've been useful for past me to know!

Yeah, can confirm, I just ran past 'em.

They kinda give half-hearted lunges after you, but give up the chase really quickly. Amazing warriors, but no work ethic whatsoever. As soon as you're far enough away that they could plausibly tell their boss they just didn't see you, they go back to just standing around, hanging out, chatting, playing fetch with the Cramped Caskets.

You can probably count the number of Soulsborne enemies you can't just run past on one hand.

Oh yeah, if you visit the place Yahar'Gul is before it's full crazy town Yahar'Gul, you can open a few doors and be able to completely bypass those hunters before they even aggro.

get killed by a bag man before you kill rom but after you kill amelia. They'll take you to the prison in that cathedral, sans hunters and big spooky Yahar'Gul monsters. Then you can do shenanigans (relatively)
safely.

I beat Bloodbourne for the first time on Halloween night. It felt right.

I got the ending where you take Gehrman's place. More complete thoughts later.

Bloodborne is getting a comic adaptation next year.

Normally, I would have no interest in this, but Ales Kot is a fascinating choice for this and I'm really interested to see what he does with this.

Been listening to the Bonfire Side Chat session on BB and decided to mess around with an Arcane Build because I'm super bad about falling into a routine with these games my first time my through, so my first run through BB was Hunters Axe into Holy Blade spam.

Just beat Father G with a +2 saw spear with a Cruel Fate characrer (arcane focused starter) on my first try. Fuck yeah, I've still got it.

I'm planning on building into the Logarius Wheel and Tonitrus for my main weapons early game but I also want to rush the dlc when it makes sense so I can switch to the Kos Parasite and Lumenwood rune for maximum thematic goodness.

A coworker has just started BB with neither prior Souls experience nor much media exposure. He's explored a fair amount of Yharnam town but has somehow managed to not run into a boss yet. I bet that'll change in his next session. He found a Madman's Knowledge and thought it a bit odd but he didn't go back to read the description so he still has no clue about deeper things. He'll flip when he starts to figure it out because he's a big fan of Lovecraft. He's loving it thus far and it's been a ton of fun to chat.

To mark the occasion I started a new game with the Threaded Cane. It's a lot different than my usual Hunter's Axe. On the other hand, it's a lot easier to cheese the first two phases of Father G.

I started a Strength build after going through the game with the Threaded Cane/Bowblade, and it was a lot fucking harder until I did a suicide run for the Whirligig Saw.

The only downside of the cane is that it's not as good at stun locking bosses. I found that I had to keep my distance a bit more and pick away at health instead of just wailing on them. It's stylish as heck though, and I really enjoyed my playthrough with it.

My first character used the Cane but subsequent playthroughs have all been Axe. It's just too satisfying to pull that thing out two-handed and crush things.

I am a bit partial to the running R1, heheh.

Speaking of whips and crushing, has anyone tried the Beast Cutter?

I messed around with it for a few minutes, but went with the Amygdalan Arm instead. The transformed attacks seemed a bit faster, and the R2 is delightful when it works. And maybe I'm crazy, but I felt like it covered you a bit better horizontally?

I think they're both pretty good. In terms of raw damage output I think the Whirligig Saw is better, partially because of that move where you just hold out the saw while it spins. But I used the Arm for a good long while due to its crazy long reach when transformed.

All in all, nothing ever replaced the Kirkhammer in my heart. It has such a solid moveset.

Ooh, yeah; the Kirkhammer's another weapon I'd like to get familiar with. Any particular tips?

The transformation attacks are my bread and butter when using the Kirkhammer, personally. Both are both super useful in almost any situation, and feel fuckin great to use. When going sword to hammer, you bring the hammer down from overhead and shove it into an enemy's face for huge damage. When you go from hammer to sword, you spin the hammer around in a sweeping motion before pulling your sword out, which not only looks awesome, but can also be great for getting yourself out of hairy situations. Again, feels fuckin' great, on the level that MH greatsword feels fuckin great.

The hammer stuns a ton of things into submission, which I abused a lot. It also has quite a bit of verticality to it, allowing you to, for example, hit Amygdala in the face and open the boss up to a visceral attack.

While the hammer is awesome on its own, I use the sword most of the time due to its quickness. Performing a sidestep followed by an R1 swing is a great way to deal with faster enemies like dogs, etc. The sword's R2 also has some pretty long reach, which is very handy!!

One weird thing about the hammer: it has a sweet spot that does higher damage, but instead of being on the head of the hammer it’s on the handle. It doesn’t make a huge difference, but it does a bit more damage when you get really close.

An Undead Giant variant that was seen in prerelease footage and was presumed to be removed from the final build has been discovered/documented ingame, three years later.

Neat!

Wonder why I'm not getting any summons for Ludwig...
Maybe I'm over-levelled - I am already level forty, afterall.

PS: don't do this
PPS: i'm only doing this because i came for the boomhammer and figured "hell, why not have a laugh"

EDIT: I got two-hit. Step up your game, Ludwig.
EDIT EDIT: oh shit, someone's helping!
EDIT EDIT EDIT: Still didn't win, but we got him down to 25%

If you get the League insignia, there are two dudes you can summon right outside of the Ludwig. Having two damage sponges makes the boss a lot easier.
