I'm really impressed by the ambitious scope of the Ninja Gaiden episode, and it's nice to see M2's early work getting some recognition in the Game Gear version of Gunstar.

You've been doing great lately, Shakewell! This is another good episode. I didn't even know about a Game Gear Gunstar Heroes. XD

Thank you, sir. The Ninja Gaiden episode took about four months to put together.

Hey, it's loose movie tie-in time with an episode on Spider-Man! Specifically Spider-Man games from SEGA!

I have fond memories of playing Spider-Man at the arcade. It was indeed a weird set of characters. Black Cat makes sense, but Submariner and Hawkeye notsomuch.

And Submariner's electric powers are actually canon... but obscure. Namor used to have a wide range of fishy powers including puffer fish powers, a cave fish radar and the powers of an electric eel. However, they were written out a few years later. Not even much of an explanation, just an editoral note saying he lost all those powers.

I legit almost put an electric eel joke in the script. But that's good to know. I did a cursory search and didn't find anything about it, so I just figured it was Japanese devs doing whatever they wanted with a comic character.

Nice one. I definitely have a soft spot for the arcade game. Love that title card, too.

Funny, I was thinking something similar. Like they didn't know much about the character and then they went through the old comics for inspiration and found a thing Marvel's largely been trying to ignore.

BTW, another fact which describes some of the games more random elements: some of the generic baddies are henchmen for the supervillain team The Hellfire Club.

Who are X-Men villains.

They also make the most delightful sounds.

The Japanese devs probably picked them out because they look like generic tokusatsu mooks, who are also known for making those high-pitched noises.

Yeah, I almost included that tidbit in the episode, but I thought it was already running a bit long.

Ex-Mutants and Dick Tracy are news to me. That's not so surprising with the former, but the latter definitely shows the seed of STI's quality.

Is it me, or is Roger starting to look like he needs some Clear Eyes?

Yeah, Dick Tracy is pretty solid. And yeah, I think I need to roll a lint remover over Roger's glasses...

"There are three Ninjas Gai-den."

"No, not that one. No, not that one, either..."

Yeah, love the writing in this one. Another great title card, too.

The plural of "Ninja Gaiden" is "Ninjas Gaiden." This is just a fact. Also a fact: too many Starmen.

More Mega Manniversary, coming your way! Did you know Platinum wasn't the first Capcom exodus? Takeru was formed in the early '90s, primarily from Capcom ex-pats. And their first game? Cocoron, an action platformer made from fever dreams.

Is it just me, or is onthestick.com down? For the past few weeks, whenever I try to visit the site, I just get a page saying "The website you were trying to reach is temporarily unavailable. Please check back soon. If you are the owner of this website, please contact Technical Support as soon as possible."

The site is down, yes. We're working on redirecting it to the YouTube channel for the time being.

I knew the PS1 version was compromised, but not to that extent! The animations drops are really noticeable. And that zoom in on air combos is just...why? Great episode!

You know what day it is, so you had to know this was coming. And Retronauts' contributor Kim Justice helps me out with some microcomputer stuff again, for the second time this year!

That was a good list, and timely with Wayforward's spiritual Aliens follow up Mummy game out now and Wiiware's end in sight. I'd have switched out one of the Castlevania Adventure titles for Legacy of Darkness, stranded on the N64 as it is, but I'm a weirdo that liked those games at the time.
