The scuttlebutt is that Unicron will be the next big IDW event, so maybe he'll have his chance...

Ooooh; IDW was one of the only continuities that’s been 100% Unicron-free (not counting stuff like D-Void, at least) so I’m on board with seeing him folded in.

Unicron has always been more interesting to me when he was somehow the one-off creation of a space monkey than when he's this ancient primal god or whatever. I find Furman's TF lore, along with the 12 primes stuff that they came up with during Aligned, to be pretty boring...so I hope we'll see something new with this version of him, if and when he arrives.

Good news, judging from their handling of it so far IDW's Transformers crew finds the 12 Primes stuff just as boring.

Honestly, Unicron's best when he's totally unexplained. The more you try to make him make sense, the worse he gets.

Agreed.

Probably why I like ol' Space Monkey, because that origin just raises even more questions!

if GUN GOD MEET YOUR AVATAR isn't the pinnacle of popular art in the 21st century I'd like to see what you'd put up against it.

Well, ”Trypticon Dines This Night on the Sweatbreads of Goliath”, of course.

Or “If you catch the train, KILL THE TRAIN”, but I don’t have a scan of that readily available.

I also really enjoyed "I've come to return fire to the gods," but I can't find a scan of that one either.

I like the Ghostbusters comics a lot, a lot, a lot. Brilliant, characterful, funny, and moving in places.

DESTRO - GUN MAKER - DESTRO - LIFE TAKER - DESTRO - DREAM BREAKER - DESTRO - EARTH SHAKER - DESTRO - MONEY RAKER takes the prize for me because I imagine it as a hook where biggie and tupac trade off lines.

(I don't know why it wouldn't let me attach mine here; it just kept saying that "You have already attached this file in thread : Trading Time: Sell and swap stuff here (no discussion allowed)", even though I just made the file earlier.)

My earlier endorsement was based on having read volumes 1 and 2, and I'm catching up now... holy hell Jem volume 3. A whole trade's worth of Sophie Campbell's incredible art, character and clothing designs, and a really solid story arc around all of that. No one draws music being performed like her. I think this was her last batch of art for the series, but it's thanks to her it even exists and is as superb as it is. Also everything with Blaze and Clash made me bawl my eyes out.

fuckin love Grimdark Jerrica's shark-bite swimsuit.

I love that whole pool party scene actually because of how well it showcases her ability to cartoon all kinds of believably-shaped people. (there is a good meta-joke underpinning the whole series, where the only character who's proportioned like a Jim Lee woman is Jem, who is, of course, not real)

The entire industry is lagging far behind Campbell in representation of body diversity, that's for certain. I love how distinct she makes all her characters in general—there's no shortage of unique facial features and body language, and the clothing choices are beyond reproach.

I haven't read Jem, but I did see a little of a Misfits mini or story or something, and I really like them.

the Misfits miniseries isn't quite self-contained -- it side-stories out of a key point in the main series -- but it's pretty good. Stormer issue is probably my favorite.

yeah, I've cracked open a Jem trade once or twice and goggled at the art. "Why am I not reading this," I've asked myself, and have come up with no suitable answer.

By the way, I'm open to suggestions for a catchier thread title. As far as I know, they don't have anything like the slightly-jingoistic "Make Mine Marvel," and don't have the reputation for regularly poking themselves in the eye like DC, so that's just what I came up with.

That said, I feel like it fails to capture the joy and investment I feel when reading their books, and they probably deserve better.

All Continuities Result from Brainstorm's Briefcase might be considered a Lost Light spoiler.

I read it and consider the volume as a whole some of the best writing and art in the series. It's hard to compare anyone to Campbell, but Jenn St-Onge's work is extremely and deftly expressive and powerful in a way that complements the established precedent beautifully. Fantastic colours too.

Scrud, I forgot I can't change the thread title here after all -- only what it says on the first post.

Was going to say "The Briefcase Full of Universes That is IDW".

1) I don't know if I get it.

2) You're too late; a mod just changed it, and I'm not about to pester for another so soon.

If I could do it myself, I'd probably make a list and change it up periodically for relevance.
