*follows spinning-around-in-the-air-for-no-reason neckbreaker with dragon suplex where opponent is gently laid down on his neck, finishes with stupid frogsplash as somewhere tears flow from gary albright's corpse*

i'll take your word for it because i don't actually know anything about this stuff. i barely know anything about wwe.

it makes sense to me that they'd want their big guy on top for their big show but at the same time gedo and okada are my 2nd and 3rd favorite wrestle people right now and i just like to see my favorite wrestle people win. be a mark ftw.

He comes and goes. A lot of the time it's Riley and (checks Scott's report since the PBP guy is so dull) Phillips, with Good Toronto Girl Renee Young around for women's matches.

Luckily, Vince gives not one shit about the show so the announcers are bland rather than being annoying.

No reason to when Saitama held, what, 24,000 legit?

And Tanahashi is awesome, but I'm over him at this point. There's only so many frog splashes a man can see in his lifetime before he starts contemplating his own worth.

More than that Dome was K-1 turf and you never knew what would happen when Mr I showed up

Renee is really, really good on commentary, which means she won't do it anywhere outside NXT. The main announcers, including the recently-gone Tony Dawson, are just fine and dull. (FUCK Alex Riley though, argh...terrible!) I'd rather have dull commentary than the three-person shitshow that is RAW. I have no idea to this day how Michael Cole has a job in WWE or any company. And, terrible thoughts aside, sometimes I wish Lawler would have stayed gone.

As for this week's NXT, Mojo Rawley debuted this week with a gimmick that is essentially "I AM REALLY REALLY EXCITED". He has trunks that demand you "STAY HYPED" and his finisher is a giant butt attack. I think he'll do okay.

Cole is okay if Vince isn't paying attention, and legitimately funny if Vince isn't around. There's a legendary version of the Shea Stadium show that aired on 24 / 7 with him and Foley on commentary that's apparently REALLY funny; sadly, I haven't found a copy of it online.

But on Raw, it's all about him telling Vince's stories Vince's way, so he resorts to his stock of 25 or so phrases, strung together in whatever order the match in front of him demands. If you listen to him from 2003 and then today he hardly sounds like the same guy, because back then Vince was more concerned with bossing around JR and generally left Cole alone.

I remember there was a rumor briefly floated around '99 or so about WCW turning Saturday Night into essentially an old-fashioned '80s territory show, giving it a steady crew of guys peeled off the impossibly bloated midcard and sending them to run a circuit of towns somewhere down south. Jimmy Hart I think was the guy who was supposed to book it. Like every even vaguely good idea WCW had in those days it got shot down in flames. Always thought it would have been really cool.
Hah! Sounds like WWE's brand extension before there was even a call for it.

That reminds me, remember "nWo Monday Nitro"?

I think those people were usually known as "ring rats." Sort of like groupies, but for wrestlers, if memory serves.

I think they tape several shows together, so Riley might just be for this batch.

As for Renee, so glad to see her moving up the ranks so quickly. I wonder if she's going to step in the ring eventually? I almost expected it the other night, when the others were telling her to stay in her seat during the Divas match.

In any case, enjoying her on commentary.

What happened to Dawson? He seemed to be getting on fine on the JBL & Cole Show.

You should say it to his face. ;P

I like having JBL there; it felt like forever since we had a good heel commentator around.

On that note: Lawler's heart attack was the best thing ever for my opinion of Cole. It got him out of the heel act, and I've just appreciated him so much more ever since. Maybe it's just because I've looked into the darkness and didn't like what I found, but I'm okay with Cole now.

Plus, he handled that night like a champ. As long as he just keeps on like this and doesn't do the heel bit, I'm a-okay with him.

He's not as funny as he used to be when he was just firing off Simpsons Brothers references and all sorts of insane stuff, though. Some of those 2006ish Smackdowns were comedy gold.

sadly it says here that's actually Yuji Nagata teaming with Saku, not Yuki Nakai, which makes the bout roughly 1000 percent less awesome (albeit still pretty awesome).

I would be all for Nakai doing pro wrestling, though, he could be like a half-crippled angry shooter take on Terry Funk.

Dude on SA put it perfectly when he said NJPW should have booked Rener and Ryron Gracie for the WK show, but I guess thier WWE connections would have made that problematic

just on pure irrational bias I'm guessing that dudes from Renzo's end of the family are a little easier to deal with in general, too.

"The Gracie that's easier to deal with" is something of a moving target, isn't it?

my advice to the gracies is to punch nagata in the face and then do it again a bunch of times when he initiates his "drop to the mat and cower" guard

Dammit, because of baseball pushing football to The Score, no NXT this week. Going to have to track down a YouTube copy of Zayn / Dallas, especially since Regal's on commentary.
