The bug-eye anime girl in these Alita Battle Angel commercials is so bizarre looking. Like, I don't understand the idea behind CG'ing a person to give them an uncanny valley pseudo anime appearance.

To the very limited extent that I can grasp it, it seems to me like one of Baudrillard's simulacra: a sign that started out as an attempted reflection of reality, but has since become unmoored from it and taken on a life of its own.

I had certain expectations when I was told that the next Fast & Furious movie would have been a spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Perhaps unreasonably lofty expectations.

I was dreaming too small.

Not a trailer, but every trickle of news about the Villeneuve Dune movie is amazing.

Quote:
Casting includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Dave Bautista as Rabban, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen, along with Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

That's... A great cast for Dune. Excited for Stilgar and Chani. But the real question is - who will play Duncan Idaho?

(it's bad that I want Sean Bean in the role? They can recast him in the sequels)

When my wife and I saw the Aladdin trailer we howled with despair at the genie reveal. What a boring, bewildering choice. When is the last time Will Smith even attempted to delight an audience?

Every choice in this is bewildering. Part of what made the original so compelling was the way the movie used 3D rendering to highlight the otherworldliness of its more magical elements. It was a frankly brilliant decision that is impossible to replicate when the movie is already live action and CGI. The Cave of Wonder is technically still aptly named, because you look at it and wonder why they bothered

There's a theater in my area I haven't been to before showing Alita in IMAX 3D. I can make time for it tomorrow. I know good 3D is like 2D: in both cases you don't notice the 3D. So I'd essentially just pay more to wear goofy glasses and look at a darker screen. Even so, I only go out to a movie theater like once a year now so I may as well splurge.

Default I do like her new outfit though, it's pretty AND functional!

You're dang right I'm here for this even if I don't have a clue what is going on. The ocean represents Elsa's depression and her attempts at overcoming her repression of her identity.

I may just be projecting here though...

Considering how I never saw the original and yet I picked up on the entirety of its plot and character beats through cultural osmosis, this is going to make a hojillion dollars, isn't it?

I fully respect and support Elsa's training montage to find and kill the storm that murdered her parents.

(Running full-tilt while barefoot on the cold, sharp gravel of the beach seems like a major ouch though.)

I was going to ask how Frozen 2 will appeal to the girls who are now two or three times as old as they were when the original came out, but the tone of the trailer feels more somber and mature than the first movie, so maybe the movie is too.

Have an extremely bad feeling Disney is trying to have their cake and eat it too here (Tease hard at the gay angle in the trailers, but ultimately not pull the trigger.)

Are you referring to the Aladdin trailer or the Frozen 2 trailer?

I'm not sensing a gay angle.
