One entry is going to be because my 14 year old daughter loved it so five years ago.

Jesus I'm old.

Welp, I'm gonna be out of town for a bit so I went and submitted a list. It is weeb as hell. When it comes to me and toys, that's what you get. I did put on some old classics as well, but I suspect a lot of them are different than the ones other people will have. I'm expecting my list will have a reeeeeeal low hit rate to the final 50 for this one. But we'll see.

Edit: Dammit, now I went and looked up some more 70s toys and am having second thoughts. No time for now but I may have to put in a revision later.

Virtual Toy Chest says there's a toyline for The 40 Year Old Virgin and that's simultaneously awkward and hilariously ironic.

But anyway, even pulling some deep cuts I'm only up to 16, which only highlights how... commercial my childhood toys were. There's only 4 entries that I'm into currently, and of the remainder, only 3 weren't promoted by a cartoon or movie. Eep!

Other notables that I found while perusing that page include Mork and Mindy, Welcome Back Cotter, and, my personal favourite discovery, Over The Top, i.e. the Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling movie. The Over The Top figures come with a little arm-wrestling table that they can use.

This wasn't the case for Over the Top, but in the late 70s, after Kenner basically broke the toy industry by springing for this little unknown called "Star Wars," Mego - which had passed up the Star Wars license - equipped a licensing spread gun and fired it at every single TV and movie property in sight, hoping they'd stumble on something even half as lucrative as Luke Skywalker.

They failed, but not before they cranked out some seriously WTF toys.

Well, yeah, the awkward movie tie-in is one thing, and there have been weirder ones in that regard. But what makes it ironic is that Andy's "deal" in the movie was that he collected all sorts of ancient, mint-in-box toys that he was loathe to get rid of Then again, the movie presented that as further evidence of him being a manchild, which adds to the awkwardness of not just the movie itself (as toy collections become more and more mainstream) but of there being a toy tie-in at all.

Anyway, I somehow finished all 25 entries, but half of them --including many of my top choices-- are going to be bone-deep cuts that maybe one or two people in the forum would recognize, and only if they're the right age. But compiling it did tickle my nostalgia bone something fierce!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go scavenge Youtube for VHS rips of mid-80s toyetic cartoons.

I expect that this will be the case for a lot of the submissions, and I think I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's individual lists for this one more than any previous Top 50. The more deep cuts the better!

I think I hit marrow with a few of my choices.

Mine is still tingling from all of the hits it got while compiling my list.

While researching I remembered about these styrofoam "Ork" eggs (which was a blind-packed toy).

List is done. I went by what I could remember while researching and ordered them by how much fun I remember having with them. One entry is because my daughter used to love that specific toy.

Also I have Funko Pops on my list.

Yeah, there's gonna be a LOT of really cool entries that are only on one or two lists, and I'm looking forward to talking about that stuff!

I think the pace was thrown off by conchobhar and Positronic Brain posting the top 10 two at a time

Strawberry Reef is a nice, easy-to-browse index for My Little Pony. So, so many slightly different types of ponies, I easily could have populated my list with them entirely.

I sent my list. There were a couple of entries where I'm forced to nominate the whole brand because I honestly couldn't decide which specific toy (out of my absolute top two or three favorites), I preferred. Also ended up pretty verbose because some of the deep cuts are un-Google-able and I had to provide context.

And now I have to dive into the toy bins in my parents' house next time I visit.

Zef your list was awesome.

By the way, just so we're clear, y'all don't have to nominate any single toy in a range if you don't want to. Several folks have sent lists with just full ranges and that's fine.

It's gonna be great. If you haven't sent me a list, but you want to and are worried about timing, let me know, or just send me one anyway! The more we have, the better this will get.

Gaaaah!! I need to finish my list, but I'm having an astronomy party tonight and need to get started on food. Is it okay if I'm a bit past midnight?

TIL: Rivers is having a way better Friday night than the rest of us.

Man, I don't even know what an astronomy party is, but I know that I want to go.

(Also, Dracula needs to let Rivers submit a list because that list is the only hope of more votes for my #8.)
