Really rocked it out yesterday in a way I hadn't done in a long time. Weights and routines weren't anything more exciting than normal - I just happened to kill on everything I did.

Felt good.

joke's on you buddy, my DOMS is "pleasantly sore" level, not "crippling," so...

it's clobberin' time!

today was high rep shoulders

machine shoulder press: 130 lbs for 2x20, 13, 11, 9. Big rep dropback here, but I changed my form to bring the elbows more forward like they would be in a strict press, and not flared out as much. it felt more engage-y. S I'll keep doing it like this.

cable front raises: 30 lbs on each side for 3x15, 12.

face pulls: 42.5 lbs for 3x15, 11.

DB lateral raises: 45s for 2x25, 23.

scaptions: 40s for 18, 14, 10.

shrugz: 80s for 3x50, 36, 30.

great day.

Immediately after posting that I read an article by Paul Carter that said

Quote:
Using a thumbless grip on overhead pressing allows for a better path of the bar by bringing it in closer to the centerline of the body. It's also easier on the shoulders and wrists.

I've done both, and am currently going thumbful and am hitting PRs. I don't really see a benefit to the thumbless grip.

I dunno about "hate" being helpful, but some righteous fury works wonders for me.

His reasons were not very convincing to me. He said something about the bar being closer to your midline, and the lift being easier on your shoulders and wrists. None of these things is really a problem for me, even with my befrigged wrist.

Paul Carter, I think, is only capable of understanding the world through insane rage & horror.

Anyway I get to OHP tonight so that's going to own

I've been enjoying thumbless grip better with OHP, but I think some of this just comes down to your individual hand/wrist proportions. It's easier for me to get those second knuckles pointing skyward when I go thumbless.

Lifting with hate is dangerous. That can be a source of sloppy technique and injury. Lift with justice and determination in your heart.

Had a quite alright bench day.

Bench: 215 x 5, 245 x 5, 280 x 5

Spoto press: 225 8, 7, 5

Assistance was Swiss OHP and t-bar rows.

Here's the 280# set shot from a camera angle designed to highlight my beer gut (although I have shaved off 11# of the sympathy weight so far)

Default Bulking Up: Weightlifting thread for Skinny People (or anyone who wants to be buff)

three grip bar curls: 120 lbs for 2x40, 33.

DB curl pyramid supersets:

25s for my light weights, 35s for my medium weights, and 45s for my heavy weights.

superset 1: 20-15-10-15-20 (full complete superset for the first time with these weights!)

superset 2: 20-15-9-12-15

damn, these are hummin along. I'll def be bumping up the heavies to 50s sometime this fall at this rate

bar cable triceps pushdown: 105 lbs for 5x20. ayyyy! I'll move up to 110 next time.

seated machine dips: 205 for 5x20, 9, 13, 11. Concentrated on form and so I got less reps on the last three sets but I really felt a nice burn.

Fantastic fucking day.

Spoilerpopped for douchiness: I compared a post-arms day photo from today and last week. It's a big difference, in part because of my leaning out, and in part because the pump from high rep day is so nuts.

squat - 200 3x6 ; this was a lot easier than the last time I hit 200. I still boop forward at the bottom on some reps
deadlift - 265x6, 275x6 ; there were some straps left at the gym so I performed a sneaky trick where I put them on and do deadlifts
front squats - 145 3x6 ; I was really gassed at this point so these were tough. Front squats are an excellent exercise to learn how to brace against the bar (in an active way)
breathing paused squats - 135 3x8 breaths ; this was me trying to kill myself. I didn't succeed and even worse I actually got out of the hole each time. On one set a guy rushed over to spot me and then said "no homo"

attaboy phat

today was heavy back day.

deadlift: 135 for 10, 185 for 10, 225 for 10, 245 for 10, 275 for 6. My grip was okay on these. No real pain. So hopefully I can continue to increase weight!

barbell bent-over rows: 245 lbs for 8, 7, 6, 4.

t-bar bent over rows: 215 lbs for 2x7, 5.

lat pulldowns4: 220 lbs for 10, 9, 8.

one-arm rows: 115 lbs for 2x6, 5.

forearm DB twists: 65s for 12, 10, 2x8.

good day. feeling more secure with my forearm/wrist/hand, so I'm excited for future gainzzz

My right knee has been complaining lately so I broke out my Ristos for last night's complexes. World of difference.

I need something for knee health, she's been hurting lately. I've been thinking of getting knee sleeves for like years, fuck. I should probably work up to getting the motivation to actually spend money.

I have them too and like them, though I probably need to go up one size. I really only use them for my heaviest squat work.

Yeah, I fucking love my SBDs. Also, I have a size medium pair of the oldstyle blue Rehbands I no longer use.

I have posted here before that they are free to a good home. The size is based on the circumference of your knee. Measure that right around the patella and let me know if you want them.

Checked out that page and saw some cool stuff! I briefly thought about springing for the squat/dead shoe combo but

1) I have a perfectly good pair of Pendlay Do-Wins that I sorta recently bought for squatting

and

2) Try as I might I can't figure out how a deadlifting shoe is any better than going barefoot.

That wooden heel is sexy on the squat shoes, though. If/when the Do-Wins ever crap out I may look into these guys.

On the lifting front: I am not doing shit. I have managed to pick up a summer cold (THE BEST) and am sitting it out. Just doing weighted walking until this passes.

EDIT: Oh shit those Soviet style lifting boots on the last page hnnngggggg

Has anyone here used leather wrist wraps before? I'm looking to limit my wrist mobility to approx. 0 degrees in any direction and I'm wondering about them

I haven't, phat. the Schiek powerlifting wrist wraps/straps I have are padded and help up my wrist stability, plus I can bust out the actual straps when I want to and not use them if I don't. I dig 'em.

today was heavy chest and calves day and, well, they can't all be winners

bench press: warm up with bar for 20, 95 for 16, 135 for 14, 155 for 12, and 185 for 10. then 225 for 6 (normally it's eight), 245 for 5, 265 for 4 then 3, and 245 for 3. My right front shoulder just felt sticky - the only set it felt right was the first 245 set.

decline DB presses: 100s for 2x8, 2. The shoulder started whining on the third set, so I stopped. ;_;

cable crossovers: 75 lbs on each side for 4x8. I'll move up to 77.5 next time!

I tried out wide machine presses and the shoulder really really did not like that, so I stopped after a single rep at 300. ;_; ;_;

leg press calf raises: 595 for 4x20, 15.

hopefully my shoulder recovers by Friday. *sigh*

Where are the boots?

I switched to strict pull-ups. Resting at the bottom for a two count, then all the way up. I did ten then five and five.

The only downside to Risto's stuff is they use the cheapest shoelaces I have ever encountered in my life. They're not woven so much as they are a bunch of threads gently encouraged to hang out together

today was heavy legs day.

zercher squats: bar for 10, 115 for 10, 145 for 10, and 185 for 2x8. getting nice and low with these.

squats: 135 for 10, 245 for 10, 295 for 10, 325 for 4. I added in the first set with light weight to concentrate on form more and try to emulate how low I get with light weight for the heavier weights. I think it worked, but that's also why I tapped out at 325 x4...

romanian deadlifts: 245 lbs for 2x10, 6. First time I've been able to do more than one set of these without hand pain in months!

machine sliding hack squat: 315 lbs for 3x10, 5. new weight!

Pretty happy with it.
