Smile Pizza Power! Your roundup for Pizza discussion

Here in discuss your love and/or hate of of all things round, flat and cheesey (or sauced if you're a tomato pie fan).

To kick things off, have a video about Pizza

Quote:
Earlier this year I spent two days in Seattle hanging out with Talia, one of the most wonderful, beautiful people I have ever met. We played video games, hung out at Bungie, and recorded a small podcast. I promised her Dan and I would make a Cox n' Crendor style animation out of one of our conversations - and we did. Sadly Talia passed away during the production of this video. Today would have been her 16th birthday, so it's only fitting that we release this today. I'll never forget the time we spent together, and I simply can't thank Make-A-Wish and Bungie for putting it all together. I am a better person for having known her and I hope this will give you some idea of how amazing she was.

That is cute but also a gross wasting of nonbiodegradable plastic.

The Takeout investigates: Can you have too much pepperoni on a pizza?

Quote:
Not since a Georges Seurat painting had a piece of artwork stopped me cold, caused me to examine with cocked head from all angles, and made me consider the beauty of the world. This:

This is what happens when you request extra-extra-extra-extra pepperoni on your pizza, the Ron Swanson special. It goes beyond a meat lover’s relationship; this is meat stalker’s pizza. It looked so beautiful and I wanted to be inside it, and it inside me.

But seeing this pizza also inspired reflection. As I am now an old and withering man, no longer enjoying dishes that contain the word “xxxtreme,” my fantasizing also comes with a side order of restraint. I actually asked myself: Is it possible to have too much pepperoni on a pizza? Inspired, I rewatched All The President’s Men, dusted off my reporter’s notebook, and set off to win my investigative Pulitzer.

Holy god that's vile. After a certain point it becomes impossible to actually cook all the pepperoni correctly, so the under layers are just going to be warm at best slime dripping grease disks with the texture of snot.

But to alleviate our fears, we decided to bake it in two batches: First with half our pepperoni supply, removed from oven to reassess, then layer on the rest of the pepperoni and finish cooking.

Nope. That's still way way too much to be cooked at once on top of each other to make it not a waste of spiced meat.

I like my pepperoni pizza to have a nice amount of the roni but that just seems insane.

(Actually that does sound pretty good - but for me the bacon is the more optional part of that or.)

You all wanna know the trick to good pizza? Veggie to meat ratio at the bare minimum 2:1, no the sauce doesn't count, you one fuckin jag out there who's gonna ask. Add cheese to taste depending on how drunk you're feeling at the moment.

My go to is pepperoni, onion, spinach, mushroom, feta, and banana pepper, for reference.

I'd give that pizza a shot, but yeah, I'd cook something akin to a pepperoni lovers and then add the cooked pepperoni after... maybe throw some more cheese on top and run it through again, just to be sure.

To be fair, the article itself said it more or less amounted to a pepperoni grinder rather than a pizza. Also best in very small doses.

Same, and I'm sure no one is surprised. There are few things that I won't try.

Also, for the record, the perfect pizza:
  • Thin crust, well cooked
  • Sweet and smokey BBQ sauce
  • No mozzarella, but lots of goat cheese instead
  • Capocollo
  • Spicy Italian Sausage
  • Mushrooms
  • Lots of pineapple
  • Chili Flakes

I will eat a pizza with pepperoni on it. I will not be happy about it however. Pepperoni is one of the most overrated pizza toppings of all time. Even in small amounts, it exudes way too much oil. I'm trying to eat a delicious finger food over here, not guzzle oil from a bread cup. There's a million different toppings you could be adding to your pizza that still gets you protein or a bit of a spicy bite, and end up less oily. Choose one of those options. Just say no to pepperoni.

I usually go for sausage and spinach. It's just a pleasant combination.

The best pizza I've had this year was The Pollinator at Hideaway: Olive oil & garlic glaze, mozzarella, pepperoni, spicy capicola, salami, banana peppers, Parmesan-herb shake, baked and then drizzled with honey.

Yum. That sounds like a pizza I'd like to try!

The best pizza I've ever had is still this:

It was flatbread with goat cheese and cream reduction, spinach, prosciutto, red wine poached figs, and a sweet balsamic. Oh god I want it in my mouth right now.

I’ll eat any pizza that is handed to me but I’m picking off the olives and there is nothing you can do about it. Very different from when I was a kid and would take off all of the toppings and just eat bread with sauce on it. Later I learned our local pizza place was garbage.

Favorite is probably to just make my own at home with some roma tomatoes and fresh basil as toppings. Why mess with perfection?
