Default LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS (KINDA) IT'S DEAD RISING TWOOOOOOOOO

The change of venue is neat. The change in developers...maybe not so much (time will tell). The new main character looks like a douche, though.

if this game doesn't have coop i'm gonna find inafune and give him an indian burn (especially considering RE5, a game where coop is arguably a liability, does)

Thank god this is a multi-platform release.

I just wish they'd go back and do a PS3 port of the original. I never got the chance to play it

Maybe this new developer will make saving easier / Less punishing and time management a smaller part of the game.

A yeah a lot of little tweaks would turn this game from a chore to fun, which I'd be in favor of.

This is nice and all, but they should do MML3 instead.

Yeah, but a fun zombie game is never unwelcome.

Yeah, but here's the problem with that: The time management / saving / restart aspect of the first game is what made it totally brilliant as opposed to just pretty good.

I mean I want more zombie-crushing mayhem just as much as you guys, but I like what makes Dead Rising unique.

1. I hate time limits
2. I hate dying and starting back from a save that's like 3 hours earlier

Dead rising does both, so I couldn't love it as much as I felt like I normally would. It's a matter of taste, but for me if it was the same game but without those things I would love it. As it was, I only liked it.
That being said, I am very hopeful that the second game will retain the fun and lose some of the frustration, because I think it has the potential to be a really great game.

Ben is spot on here. I thought the game made this really fun zombie playground and then ruined it with the time limit and crappy save points.

I liked the structure the time limits imposed. It did a lot to ratchet up tension, too. And I appreciated how hard and unforgiving the game could be most of the time. But the fight against Isabella was just cheap bullshit.

I didn't have a problem with the idea of escort missions, but Dead Rising had some of the worst companion AI I've ever seen. I can't even count the number of people that I lost because they were stuck behind a chair in a store or something.

Mark McDonald once called Dead Rising the best shitty game he had ever played, and that sums up my feelings exactly.

I am coming in to defend Dead Rising

THink of it as the Majora's Mask of Zombie Games. I didnt mind restartin because you could still gain levels, plus if you are trying to get to the end of teh 3 days, there isnt enough time to check everything out, so you can try different stuff each reboot. I thought, overall, it was pretty cool

I did enjoy the inventive save system eventually. I can't say I liked how restrictive it was at first, but once the format was ingrained in my mind it was pretty cool to plan out your schedule and try to complete as many events as possible while saving some for the second play through. The biggest problem was probably that I'd be worried about dying and thus make the trek to the save room far too often, which became tedious.

All that said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that save system is gone for the sequel.

Loved the game. Hated the Survivors' AI.

I keep meaning to go back and save everyone now that I have the Mega Buster.

The one where she was on the bike? I just stood in the fountain and shot her with the nail gun. Her AI was so bad that she'd mostly just drive back and forth instead of attacking.

Yeah, I really think the biggest problem with the game was the survivor AI. If they could have just been a little better, escorting them back to the safe room wouldn't have been such a chore.

I think the save system was fine, but the game really could have benefited from a save/suspend anywhere function (a la its inspiration, Dragon Quarter).

And none of the bosses were a problem once you had mini-chainsaws.

oh man I just remembered that ridiculous survival mode in the Dead Rising. I hope that does not come back.

I hope they make the weapon durability last longer, or rework the system entirely. I just never really got the boss fights, they were just ridiculously difficult. The mexican dude (Carlos, Carlito?) with the sniper rifle was retarded. I couldn't close the distance on him, and couldn't kill him with the full, single pistol I had. Taking the time to go get the mega buster after that made the game a bit more fun because bosses became trivial after that.

If they decide to keep the time limit, I really hope they add a better free roam mode. Having only a limited amount of food and making your health slowly but constantly decrease isn't very fun. Sometimes I just want to run around the mall, exploring and killing zombies, without having to worry about Otis calling me up and then badgering me because I happened to jump while he was talking and it hangs up on him. Also, please make this game's text SDTV friendly, I'm too poor to get a HDTV, and squinting at the TV to read really sucks. My eyes are already bad enough, I don't need to make them worse.

For what it's worth, I kind of doubt they'll keep the time limit. The time limit was there in the first game because Frank's ride was returning in 3 days time. Here, it looks like there's not going to be an evac because the epidemic's gone national. Of course there are any number of other reasons they could give for a time limit, so we'll see.

The chainsaws break the combat system clean in half. That doing that is the best way to have a good time with Dead Rising is the main reason I'm keeping my hopes tamped down for the sequel.

The coolest weapon was that giant drill thingy from the hardware store. I loved impaling a zombie with it and plowing through his friends with his rotating body as a shield.

I liked cutting zombies in half with a broadsword from the knife store. Admittedly, it left you pretty wide open, but it was satisfying.

The best thing about the mini-chainsaws is that there were THREE BOOKS that raised their durability, so you didn't need any other weapons. Get to level 50 or whatever, make some good drinks, and you were a god.
My favorite weapon aside from that, though, was definitely the katana. The sound it made and the way it cut zombies vertically was just amazing.

The only thing I really want changed from the original game is the stupidly tiny text. It was a pain having to lean in that close to my TV just to try and read what the next mission objective was. I'm sorry, Capcom, I'm poor and don't own an HDTV yet.

I love the Mega Buster! It trivializes the annoying boss fights and actually makes rescuing the retarded npcs possible. I still need to get the rest of the Mega Man outfit though. Never bothered with the mini chainsaws though, I didn't want to go look for the books.

i want
-strafing (more for melee than for shooting though)
-co-op
-the return of the mega man outfit and the addition of a different capcom character (Strider? Dante? Zero? Rad Spencer?)
-a pool that i can stack zombies up in
-CO-OP
-There to be a similiar structure to the first game (Time-based with an emphasis on replay, stats carrying over even if you die and have to start over, etc) but with refinements like making saving less of a pain in the ass
-If I have to rescue survivors again can they not be dumber than a sweater in the southern sahara
-an upgrade system for weapons that makes them less expendable and more effective (I realize that's the point but still wouldn't be more fun to get one weapon you like and keep it by sacrificing all the trash weapons you find to keep it working? as long as it's not lol borken like the twin chainsaws)

I don't like escort missions in general, but there are some I don't mind. Saving these fucking buffoons, though? Pass. You can all get eaten.

Reading this thread, though, has made me want to pick the game back up...

A Fun Club approaches! Command?

I don't know about good time. A lot of the weapos were super-fun. Katana, Axe, Drill, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun. It's just that the mini-chainsaws were clearly the best.
