Default In the year 20XX: Megaman general thread of everlasting peace!

To prevent unintentional thread necromancy and more broken dreams!

Why is everyone so certain this iOS game is going to be shitty? I mean, it probably will be, but that's besides the point.

Reason the first: Graphically, it looks like aaaassss. It looks like it might have some FFIV: The After Years-style resource mixing thrown in, just to make me - and maybe some other people - extra disappointed. In the game we won't buy.

Reason the second: Remember the last Mega Man phone game? Yeeaaaaah.

Also, this Mega Man doesn't have a buster. He's got like this lame wrist mounted dealio in the screenshots. It just isn't Mega Man without a comically impractical arm gun.

First, it's a "social RPG".

Second, iOS = no real buttons.

Third, this screenshot.

An intern made that giga attack sprite in twenty minutes using MS Paint. I will bet all of my money on it.

I have no money.

The same reason why all phone-exclusive, social game spinoffs are shitty. Its the way of the universe.

I heard someone mention in the other thread that the Korean MMO was Vaporware, what happened there?

If you're looking for a traditional Megaman game, OK, this looks like a disappointment. But if it's something that costs a couple of bucks, let's you play with friends, keeps the franchise out there in people's minds... why not?

The knee-jerk reaction just bugs me. This is also how the "fans" reacted when Legends came out.

...

The 'button' under the lifebar says "AutoPlay."

If this makes them some money, that's good (as long as it isn't so much that they focus on stuff like this), but I won't buy it (nor would I if I actually had an iPhone).

You know what? If boss weapons can be used a la spells in a traditional RPG, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Ah, I was going to make a thread after the request in the "Not Worth Its Own..." thread, but I guess there's no need now.

At the gallery's opening last week, we chatted with Capcom's Matt Dahlgren, the senior product marketing manager overseeing all things Street Fighter. The conversation jumped from topic to topic, but along the way we touched on upcoming anniversaries, and Dahlgren mentioned one that a lot of fans have been hoping to hear about: Mega Man.

"We had 15 last year for Resident Evil," he said, "and then we have Mega Man coming up. So stay tuned."

I wonder what they're planning :3 I would totally drop $150 on a Mega Man Anniversary Collection Set.

My first reaction on seeing the words "social RPG" was, "good job guys, you picked the absolute worst genre possible when trying to appeal to fans of a platformer series."

Then I remembered having the exact same reaction upon hearing that Battle Network was an RPG, and its gameplay turned out to be pretty decent.

Then I thought about how dangerous an idea this is when you've already seriously pissed off the fans multiple times in the past year or so (whether or not all of that fan rage was deserved is another conversation).

In short, I'm about as optimistic about this as I was about new Sonic games pre-Colors, but that's not to say it's impossible for them to make this work. It's a moot point for me anyway though, as I don't own an iPhone or equivalent nor will I in the foreseeable future.

Remember last year, for Metroids anniversary, how Nintendos sole contribution was telling anyone who had Ambassador Status on their 3DS that they could download Metroid Fusion, free of charge? Which they could do anyway?

My expectations are not high, is all I am saying.

Would I love to see a new Anniversary Collection that fixed the various foibles of the other ACs? Absolutely. Work resuming on MML3? Impossible, but you bet your sweet bippy.

Presently, I'm kind of doubtful that we'd even get so much as digital re-releases of the games in the series we don't already have, like the first two MMLs or Powered Up.

Ever since Keiji Inafune left Capcom, I've felt like Mega Man was the victim child of a messy divorce. Capcom keeps custody, but only so they can get back at the father by neglecting the son.

Mega Man 10 came out in 2010, hardly long enough ago to suggest the franchise is being neglected. Considering the circumstances under which Inafune left its probably a good thing they're taking a light touch with the series right now.

I still think Legends 3 will happen someday; however, I don't think it will be at all like the project we knew, except in that it's a sequel to Mega Man Legends 2. Maybe borrow a few concepts, but...

The Internet has a very short memory, and tends to view the copious fan-service Capcom has been giving the series as deliberate trolling of its fanbase. The company's definitely going through a weird time right now but people are overreacting like crazy.

How many Mega Man games have been canceled since Inafune left? Legends 3 and Universe? Am I forgetting any? Kinda hard not to view that as those games only being made at his direction/to try and entice him to stay.

Didn't the guys making Street Fighter IV have to fight to get it made? Street Fighter IV. A direct sequel to a game that founded an entire genera... Seems Capcom's pretty bipolar about either exploiting their IP as fast as they possibly can or locking it away forever.

Greetings, I have to come from the future to save the Mega Man franchise. Can you point me to your nearest iOS enabled device?
