As time goes by/the holes in Vince's brain widen, the stranglehold on WWE announcers tightens and chokes out anything resembling a personality. I'm convinced that VKM's will contains a clause replacing the announce table with a soundboard built from Coliseum Video calls

I like Saxton! I already don't miss Coach though, at least I can tune him out.

Glenn Jacobs has won the Republican primary to be county mayor of Knox County, Tennessee by a margin of 17 votes.

Like...I knew this was going to happen, but it's still weird to be here you know

I like Saxton better with Graves being a more vicious heel to play off him. Coach is just ... super boring.

And even the best possible three-man desk would still be annoying next to a two-man one.

I did notice, maybe as a fluke, that a backstage segment actually threw back to the desk instead of just staring off awkwardly, almost like a real sports show! Probably won't ever happen again.

finally finished Backlash, and man, that was terrible. Maybe flying everyone to the middle east for one PPV and then back for another in like a week wasn't the best idea? Just maybe?

Back on my bullshit, watching PPVs in order, and wow, Judgement Day 2003, La Resistance being the bad guys because of the Iraq war is even more cringey in hindsight. And watching them face Steiner and Test as the babyfaces is even more embarrassing. 2003 was a nightmare.

IIRC in 2003 all the good in wrestling on earth was concentrated into Pro Wrestling NOAH.

I'm enjoying young Brock, heel Cena, Jericho-Shawn, and a lot of the mid card. But this forced patriotism is always embarrassing.

No, it's all there. His name is purged from the site, so you can't search for him. Instead of saying "Chris Benoit vs. Brock Lesner for the WWE Championship" it would just say "Brock Lesner defends the WWE Championship." There are vague warning that the old PPVs are broadcast in their "original form" and may contain not-PG content.

And while I know that Benoit is by far the most worthy of deletion, I find it interesting that, AFAIK, he's the only such star to get that treatment. Hogan never got purged, for example.

2003 was the year GAEA inspired Dean Rasmussen to write excerpts of a proposed Great Southern Novel about Aja Kong and Sugar Sato.

looking this up btw the Death Valley Driver Video Review forums were an objectively shitty place full of objectively shitty people as early to middle 00s wrestling forums were wont to be but you would have gotten a huge kick out of tomk's posts I think.

Apparently the Saudis requested Hogan for the Greatest Royal Rumble! So we may actually see Hogan back in the company in some capacity soon.

Wow, Smackdown moves to Fox in a 5 year $1B deal. Insane. USA apparently got it for $30M in 2016.

It's a live show that gets solid ratings. Gold standard in 2018 apparently.

DVDVR was one of the good ones because the admins had very little tolerance for buffoonery and often had “give us reasons not to ban you” purges

Of course 2010s wrestling Twitter makes the worst of those forums look like the Academy at Athens.

Also their puroresu match downloads were the tits, got into 2000s Big Japan and NOAH through them

I didn’t get involved there until after they wiped the porn forum and am on record as saying wiping the politics/current events forum is one of the smartest things they ever did.

But I met too many decent people on there to really hate the place, so I admit I may be biased.

I crumble in fear of what a wrestling forum's political discussion thread might look like. (I am reminded of the bodybuilding forum where people couldn't keep straight how to do workout routines on alternating days, and then thinking of how a wrestling forum is like that but for people who are only invested in other people's workout routines)

okay, we belong to totally different eras of the joint then. I never heard that they'd killed the politics board.

to address muteki's musing this was the 9/11-changed-everything era and it was mostly what we now look back on as armchair tough guy warmongering and barely coded racism.

Where you there when they did “defend your existence” culls of the member rolls? Kinda surprised more forums don’t do something like that.

I hope the first episode on Fox opens with Colin Cowherd getting dragged into the ring and forced to join the Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass Club.

Ah, a more elegant and civilized time than our own. Coded racism, can you imagine the restraint?
