The server transfer fee is far too expensive. Makes mass transfers like that not really feasible. I'm glad I paid for my buddy Dio to come to Sarg though.

Also we have a big house and like five alts apiece for RP shittery. Bryn's a good world.

Just cloned Ros on Sarg though so maybe I'll put some hours into leveling her to play with y'all though

I want to be the sort of player who, if an environment designer set down a book and an oil lamp on a table in a completely unimportant hallway to make it feel "homey", notices that, appreciates that, and wonders about the life of the unseen NPC who was reading that book.

Hell, I actually browse through the shelves at XV's Cornix gas stations just to see what the designers did with them, even if they're just meaningless decorations and the actual shop is at the counter. At this point, if you dropped me inside a random gas station, I could probably recognize where in Lucis it is just by looking at the shelves. (OTOH, most if not all Kenny's are identical. Fast food franchising!)

Walking through Rabanastre, Archades, and Balfonheim for the first time was almost an audiovisual overload. There's very few superfluous elements in the main streets of the first two, but the Bazaar, Lowtown, and Old Archades are a delight. Bhujerba also tickles my love for European layouts and narrow alleyways. From what I've seen of XIV's towns, and also knowing that many of the people walking around are real people out on their own errands, I expect to spend a lot of time just people-watching and gawking at the cities themselves.

Of course, I also expect that this behavior would cause other people to get impatient.
Loving attention to detail is a big reason I still adore the jRPGs and survival horror games of the PSone era, as well as many Super Famicom jRPGs. My dissatisfaction with Bravely Default's towns largely had to do with the streamlining making it so there's way less really cool sights to take in than your average Wall Market or Deling City or Treno. I don't wanna watch dumb idiots talk about stupid shit, I wanna see more of Florem!

It's certainly played a part in my love for indie walking sims and horror games as well.

Man if you want worldbuilding detail in FFXIV, level your hand/land classes and mash your face into the levequest flavor text. Shit's delightful.

Also I've started to empathize a little with how batshit Ishgard is now that I know their city has to contend with brain worms, two-foot-long airborne slugs, etc

I'd be lying if i said that entering Gold Saucer in FF14 for the first time didn't bring a huge, dumbass smile to my face. The music makes it. Same thing for all the Gilgamesh and Ultros stuff.

FF14 is SE saying, "Oh, we heard you like Final Fantasy, dawg. Here's a Final-Fantasy-ass Final Fantasy." And it's preeeeetty great.

I adore the music and the art direction of the Final Fantasy XIV Gold Saucer, but the mini games...Let's just say I would kill for some snowboarding or a rail shooter rollercoaster ride and leave it at that.

I don't think I've ever actually played the mini-games. Except for Triple Triad, because Triple Triad is the best FF mini-game, but I got my ass handed to me.

What?

Triple Triad is the main combat engine in FFVIII. Everything else before Diabalos is just a tutorial for the ATB system they use in the boss fights, which is a weird throwback thing they kept in out of tradition (also the only fights that just happen, instead of you challenging some NPC), though the option to refine cards for spells and junction spells to stats does make things a bit more cohesive.

The game is nothing if not experimental.

four-so is talking about Final Fantasy XIV's version of Triple Triad, not FF8's. It's an MMORPG, the cards are rare and pricey and many of the people you can challenge have Kick Yo' Face In Hard decks.

Oh well, least you don't lose cards in that version.

If my life had ANY kind of room for it, all this talk would have made me resub to FFXIV.
Maybe one day I'll get to Heavensward. Maybe.

When you get the time... do it. I still think Heavensward is the best bit of XIV, though I'm a sucker for FF6 and 4.2 might change my mind...
