I'm glad that Vlambeer is jumping in! Their stuff is all a lot of fun and I never got around to picking up Nuclear Throne.

I still have the game jam version of Nuclear Throne (Wasteland Kings), but never actually bumped up to the released version. I should probably do that.

Also, I guess I really need to get/play Blaster Master Zero now, so I can play the second one.

Man, never thought I'd see an Ikki reference in the year 2019, yet here comes Blaster Master 02, and brings that heat.

So, I was recently reminded that there was a DIFFERENT Blaster Master remake on WiiWare (R.I.P.)... was that any good, or has Zero sort of supplanted it as the definitive take on Blaster Master 1?

Overdrive did its best, but Zero is just an order of magnitude better in every regard.

It was also the only 2d side scroller Iíve ever seen with camera problems.

Overdrive was solid, if sometimes a bit cheap-feeling in nature. (It probably was developed on a shoestring budget.) Also depends on how kosher you are with having the strafe button mapped to the trigger on the Wii remote, while in NES configuration. It was weird.

Also, a lot of bosses are basically bullet-hell shmup fights in an on-foot context. Stuff gets crazy.

But yes, Zero is better in every regard.

Yeah, Overdrive wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't all that great. You're not missing much.

Holy SHIT! I just posted recently in the "fix" games thread about how much I adore BMZ. Thinking about it got me to re-purchase it for the Switch and blaze through it in a day again, loving the final original level and hoping for more. Even randomly started following the Inti Creates Twitter hoping to see them hint at a sequel someday. And now it's here, downloading on my Switch. Gods be praised.

So. Sega Ages Virtua Racing has gotten some updated information.

8 player mode based on the rare networked "Virtua Formula" arcade setup will be available.
Multiplayer modes are known to support 5 and 20 lap modes (only those two modes mentioned, oddly; no word of 10 or 15 laps like the home ports were)
Replay mode will be available (something, again, from the home ports)
Only the 3 arcade courses mentioned (so neither of the 32X-exclusive courses, nothing new from the unfortunate Saturn version, nor the 3 extras from the PS2 port)

https://gematsu.com/2019/03/sega-age...ls-screenshots

It's not everything I wanted (would love to see those 32X courses and alternate vehicle options remade, both were pretty solid tracks; the PS2 content was...similar; the Saturn content might be best not spoken of) but it's still what I want. Meanwhile my 32X will yet remain in my collection, for I shall still have use of it, for now.

The replays are based on a rarely-seen feature of the arcade version called Live mode. When set to this, the 2P-side monitor would follow 1P's car with a bird's-eye camera and racing commentary by one "Mr. Virt McPolygon," who says things like "GET YOU THE EXCITING RACE." M2 are getting everything they want from Santa this year for finding a way to keep this in.

Looks like an entertaining trifle, which is about what I expected. Kind of hilarious that the closest thing to a traditional VR controller is the freaking elephant.

Also, as before, the creativity options look incredible. I imagine thereís no real way to share them, though, which puts a damper on things. I would be all over an endless train of dopey VR attractions.

I might pick it up when it drops in price. The Wario Ware-ish toys look fun.

I love everything about this, although it's probably not for me. Only Nintendo would think of a jump pedal that has a big wing whose only point is to the flap air at you to simulate the sensation of leaping through the air. That said:

Oh God, 4:48. This is probably someone's very specific fetish, and grats to them I guess, but I'm horrified.

There's almost enough here to create Toy-Con VR Sumotori Dreams and that is amazing

Do we know if Gain Ground has any of the other ports included, or is it just arcade Gain Ground? (That would be totally fine, and I'll buy it either way, but I am curious if the Genesis and/or SMS versions are bundled in there.)

Anyway the final Pocky and Rocky game that came out on Wii and PS2 under the title Heavenly Guardian is getting released on Switch as Snow Battle Princess Saiyuki, if any of y'all want to pick that up and experience the mediocrity that would make you pine for the beautiful SNES pixels of Pocky and Rocky 2

Oh that's what that is.

Shakewell - I think it's the arcade version only, but I could be wrong.

I love the idea of the Labo stuff, and the VR looks like it's a whole new ballgame. But it's not really up my alley. But if I had kids, hoo-doggy.

Hmm. Actually, this might be good for my nephew...

The Wall Street Journal reports two new Switch models are coming this summer: One pretty much set to replace the 3DS, the other aiming to be a more powerful Switch. Both supposedly having more going for them than just "differences in power" (Don't expect "Switch Pro" to be as powerful as PS4 Pro and XBOneX).
