It is very heartening to read the responses here. This is going to sound stupid but having a thing I have to do every three weeks has given me a nice little foothold in all the madness going on around me, and the fact that people seem to like it is very gratifying.

I really wanted to do something relatively free of histrionic nonsense, preferring instead low-key silliness. I dunno. I know it's barely watched, and that's fine, but most VG shows online seem to be a slave to the community and parrot memes and what feel like received opinions. There's especially this drive to shit on minor league games, with shows like Game Grumps which people buy into wholesale. I've seen the Grumps just trash entirely decent software, and it gets my goat so it does, to be sure. So part of the show's "mission statement" is to not just tell games to fuck off.

Anyway I'm writing VW4 now. Expect Nintendo Wii stuff.

I'm also putting together a Patreon, because you kind of have to have one. The aim there is to go fortnightly, and to buy a nicer microphone. I'm not interested in improving "production values" but a mic that didn't cost £3 wouldn't hurt. And maybe a pop filter, if I'm pushing the boat out.

Humble beginnings. I think you've got the seed of something great planted here, and I'd actually be interested to hear your take on more than just videogames. You may scoff, but I could see you parlaying this into a career in broadcasting of some sort. You've got the talent, you just need the practice.

Your videos are still nailing this, which is why I'm still watching. Thanks for doing them. I'll keep an eye out for your Patreon.

Yeah, the positivity is nice. Yelling about bad video games on YouTube is basically the international pastime now, so it's kind of nice to hear someone say good things about games.

Me and my wife sat down and watched this on the TV like a regular show, and we both laughed and enjoyed it.

The other reason I want to do Patreon is, well, I'm asking friends of mine like Mark Hughes and Leeann Hamilton to do art and animation for me for nothing, and their shit is super good and they should be getting money for it, you know? XD

You being lowered into your grave at the end was quite good. Not sure if that was them, but it made me laugh haha

So yeah, I'm down to give them some cash for their work

Here it is.

Show free forever. Every three weeks. Throw a buck in if you want, I can get by either way. This would go towards paying contributors, buying a new mic/filter and maybe getting some art lessons.

Yeah, I can imagine you making the first video thinking it'd be a one off joke, but I love the History of Frogs in Videogames.

I think we all do.

"Knock, knock."

"Who's there?"

"That's DLC."

I got a good, much-needed chuckle out of that.

Haha, I've had a lot of people really take to History of Frogs, so I think I have to keep doing it now. My original plan was to transition from it into something even more stupid, like History of Post Offices In Videogames.

Keep doing the frogs but take it in the direction you already started to with Mario's suit and have them get worse and worse. Then cancel it for post offices.

Okay so, ep 4 is coming along really well, it's looking like it will be finished at least a week early. Wondering whether to do an early launch or wait for the intended release date and build up a backlog of material.

Backlog is always a good idea. You never know what shit will pop up.

Yes.

Maintaining a consistent schedule is probably more important than releasing a video early every once in a while.

You could maybe just release completed videos early to Patreon supporters only, if that's not too complicated? (Probably just post a private, de-listed link, then trust that the honor system will work.)

Also, I'm not sure if Patreon would charge them early, but it says they get charged every three weeks for a video - if it charges them whenever videos get posted, Patrons might get upset.

I'm only sending a couple bucks per video, so I wouldn't care, but just throwing that out there. Sorry if that's not how Patreon works.

For patreons that pay out per content after a certain period of time (like say, per video every 3 weeks), you as a patron can limit how much you're willing to give per pay period in case the artist has a sudden huge surge of creativity and posts it all over the period of time or something. One person I'm supporting had to split a series into 4 videos and had to explain that. It's a hidden feature for some weird reason.

But yeah, I fully support the idea of creating a backlog so you can keep a consistent schedule. You'll create a buffer space for creating new content and it's important to building a brandᵗᵐ.

I always like having a backlog while I'm working on podcasts. I would recommend that to give yourself a little wiggle room.

It works well for your series since it doesn't seem to focus on "current" games or material. It's all evergreen and it doesn't matter when it's released because of that.

Speaking as a content viewer, I'm totes fine with the videos coming every 3 weeks and building a backlog up.

I like not having to wait for things, but there's no reason to not go with a cushion that lets you get a backlog going in the event something comes up.

I do like the idea of releasing them early to backers (but then I would, wouldn't I?). Maybe don't promise an early episode every time, but just release it if you've got it? You shouldn't put more pressure on yourself to do that every time.

Also, it might encourage people to become backers, who knows?
