An artist I follow on tumblr has done a ton of really cool speculative biology designs, including some really fascinating takes on what a more feasible centaur would be like.

I'd love to see something come out of their designs, but unfortunately they have a tendency to get overambitious and plot out complicated projects that never get past the conceptual stage.

Not entirely certain, but in Greek mythology, I think centaur fall under the demigod classification, like fauns and nymphs.

Alright but like

immortal = won't die
mortal = will die

what is the middle ground between those two

Won't die for a loooong time, but much easier* to kill than the Greek Gods.

*Don't attempt this unless you're a Hero.

The human part dies, but the horse half is immortal.

It gets awkward after the first 100 years.

I wonder if you can have a centaur where either the human part or the horse part (but not both) are affected by dwarfism .

What about a centaur where the horse part is from a breed significantly different size than the human, like a Shetland pony?

He is closer to a Minotaur than he is a Centaur. Also, at this point, we are butchering language.

I had a strange world of warcraft dream wherein there was a weird special event boss that unlocked strange stuff like making you look more anime, giving you extra cosmetic-only equip slots, and in my paladin's case (I had a party of PCs), turned you into a centaur.

After I woke up, I had the thought: could you be a centaur in D&D as a player race? What would that entail? Would it be a particularly good match with, e.g., one of the fighter subclasses that has mounted skills?

Centaur was the race used for one of the more famous 3.5e cheese builds.
