Mario Kart 8/Deluxe, no contest. Nintendo really knocked it out of the park with that game.

I'm wishing I'd made this multiple choice because now that I'm looking at it my heart is saying Double Dash, but my brain is saying 8 Deluxe and nostalgia is saying Super.

I would vote 8 Deluxe but I don't have it since 8 has everything I personally need. It's superb.

I am super weird in that the one I put the most time into was Mario Kart DS. That game was excellent.

MK8 Deluxe is really really really good, and it's great because you don't need to pay for any DLC. I also played the hell out of MK7, it's a super good game. Both benefit from being portable and online.

But lets be real, all mario karts are good.

I spent the most time with Double Dash and I'm pretty fond of it. I like almost all of them except for the GBA one which is awful.

I really wanted to vote for both 8 and the original! They're both so good.

What is with all this Super Circuit hate? Geez. Look, it was pretty cool at the time having a Mode 7 racer on a portable system. (That wasn't F-Zero.)

I've never been a big fan of the slide boost so Super Mario Kart is the game for me.

I appreciate that while some have defended Super Circuit, we are apparently all in agreement that Mario Kart Wii sucks.

Mario Kart Wii was the most accessible game in the series up to that point (the drift mechanic is insurmountable for many of my non-game-playing friends) which gives it a pretty massive leg up. It's a party game, so it benefits from that low barrier of entry. Also it has Maple Treeway and Coconut Mall.

...All Mario Karts are good?!

Super Mario Kart, because it's the only one without rubber-banding.

I will be powersliding as Bowser in Mario Kart SNES until the day I die.

I would love to go on, but we don't seem to be going in-depth in this thread.

Super circuit is cool because it has all the SNES tracks in it and has 4-P support. Shame all the work that has to be put in to unlock them all though.

MKDS is nice but destroys my thumb.

(To be clear, MK8D is the only one that matters now, and is by far the best portable Mario Kart)

Personally I thought Super Circuit was okay, but I also that it paled in comparison to the other mascot racers that would come to the platform. I mean, Crash Nitro Kart's GBA adaptation was surprisingly great.

Super Circuit does have a lot of tracks, though locking the classic Mario Kart tracks behind a coin wall (and their time trial versions behind a 150cc coin wall) is just cruel.

But we already did have a Mode 7 racer at the time that wasn't F-Zero. It was called Konami Krazy Racers. Not that I ever played it, but it's there.

I spent many, many hours playing 4 player MK64 with my friends from school back in the day and I will always love it for that.

Double Dash was fantastic and I will hear no say other wise.

MKDS had the excellent Mission Mode and I wish that would come back.

Seven was a perfectly fine Mario Kart and is probably the most overlooked one.

Eight/Deluxe is dang near perfect and Deluxe brings back Battle Mode.

Wii is hot garbage with too many weapons that affect the entire track with no way to stop it. Unbalanced in a way that makes previous games look good.

I went with DS, but other than that one I'd probably say 7. 8 is very good (I haven't played Deluxe) but I felt it went slightly overboard on punishing anyone in first place, whereas 7 struck a pretty good balance between DS (no snaking) and Wii (which was borderline unfair if you were in first place for any amount of time).

Really, though, there are arguments for and against all of them. I wouldn't say any are outright bad, either. Also I'm one of those people who liked snaking in MKDS, though only on an original DS Phat because the d-pad hurts way less than later DS models.

Also I'm not a huge fan of either but GBA MK > SNES MK.

I don't know how to vote in this poll because the only MK games I've ever owned were the first and last ones. I only picked up 8 Deluxe last week when it went on sale, so I'm still sorting out how I feel about it. It's definitely pretty good, but also really frustrating when the computer dogpiles you 5 seconds before the end of a race and you drop from 1st to 7th. I will say this for the original Super Mario Kart: no blue shells.

I don't actually think that's true, because my friend and I used to challenge ourselves by letting the computer players lap us before touching the throttle and we could still manage to win races (at least on 50cc). I'm almost certain that the CPU drivers were going slower because we were so far behind them.

That's my biggest gripe about the Wii version. It's not actively bad, but it goes way too far with the rubber-banding. I mean, I have been popped repeatedly with blue shells within inches of the finish line. That is not a fun experience.

Oh man was the blue shell introduced that early? I totally thought it was later in the series.

Yep, first introduced in MK64 where it acted like a normal shell and traveled along the ground and have a chance to hit someone not in first which could actually help the person who fired it. IIRC, it wasn't in SC, but it returned in Double Dash as the flying version everyone hates today.

My favorite is Mario Kart DS. I think the reason is because it is the one that feels the most fun to drive the kart, but my mind might be playing tricks with me.

The real reason might be because it is the only one i've played with friends. Most of the time was in time trial mode only, since we had only one DS at our house, and it was actually a lot of fun.
