Default Resident Evil 2 Remake

Resisted the urge to subtitle this thread "A Real Thing That's Actually Happening".

Guess I'll crosspost this from the general survival horror thread then.

Looks like the RE2 remake (REmake 2? RE2make?) is officially happening.

I was saying on twitter that I'm not sure how to feel here. On the one hand, RE2 is hands down one of my favorite games that, like RE1 before it, could really benefit from a remake. On the other, a lot of why I prefer RE2 over the other classic games has nothing to do with gameplay. From RE4's version of Leon (as well as his quiet, angsty, lip-rapey counterpart in the RE: Degeneration CG movie) to the weird Twin Snakes-ish scenes in Darkside Chronicles, every time they revisit the things that made RE2 uniquely charming they manage to muck it up in some way. And I've just been generally fatigued by the RE games since the movies and general RE 'brand' became the driving creative force behind the series. Of course, I'm still waiting to give it a chance and will probably be picking it up day 1, so these are just the cautious but futile musings of someone already trapped in Capcom's pocket.

Oh wait, never mind. No Alyson Court as Claire, no sale.

Default Resident Evil 2 HD Remake

It's happening!

I'm excited. For all the talk over the past few years about how much Capcom has lost touch, comparing them side-by-side to Konami shows that they still have a lot of respect for games, and for their legacy. As long as they just do what the RE1 remake did -- i.e. don't change the core, but add a few meaningful curveballs -- we should be in for something special.

YES! Finally. That game sorely needs a nice remake.

I too am cautiously excited; RE2 is my favorite of the pre-RE4 titles, and seeing it remade has been one of my most wanted (but unexpected) dreams. 2015, continue to do the seemingly impossible!

I am down. Resident Evil 2 was the only one of the PS games that I played when it was new and I haven't played it since. Kamiya's games are collectively some of my favorites and its been too long since I've played this one.

I wonder if this will be fixed-camera, like the original? I understand why the GC RE1 remake did it, and they did an incredible job, but it almost seems unnecessary now. I bet they could keep the spirit of the original game with a free camera.

I'd be fine with a free camera, but I really liked the hybrid, dynamic camera like Code Veronica had or how Silent Hill would go fixed at certain moments. Either way though I'm fine as long as the game isn't out and out Resident Evil 4.

While I'm still a little wary since Capcom doesn't have Kamiya or Mikami any more, all the same I'm still interested in seeing how they handle this remake. RE2 could certainly use one, that's for sure.

Seriously. Just last year Capcom released a new Strider game, and while some smartasses may make remarks about Capcom trying to get easy money with rereleases of games from its older, better days, at least Capcom cares enough about its game library to release stuff like Capcom Arcade Cabinet and Mega Man Legacy Collection and rerelease the Gamecube era Resident Evils on more modern consoles and to let WayForward do a Ducktales remake and to release the Dungeons & Dragons arcade games for home audiences and push to release as many of their old games on Virtual Console and PSN as they can within licensing limitations.

I am so, so very happy.

RE2 is far and away my favourite (classic) RE game. I lamented for many years that we got RE0 instead of REmake 2. Now I can put all that behind me and just be happy.

...As long as it's remade in the same way as RE1. I don't even care if they add a bunch of superfluous junk, as long as the core gameplay remains the same. If they somehow try to squeeze it into the gameplay style of RE6... well... I guess in that case, the original RE2 will always exist.

I got RE2 on the PlayStation network last year. It's pretty cool. But I don't have a high end PC or any of the new consoles. I would love for this to be in the style of the first REmake, except perhaps with less clunky, retro controls. Though I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to play this.

Still, I'm interested in it!

It absolutely does not but if they manage to make it as good as the remake of RE1 then it will be more than worth it.

(Sadly I doubt they'll keep the RE2 Ultraviolence intact.)

Normally I'm not in favor of excess gore but RE2's body horror is one of those little charms that adds to the unique feel of the game.

On the other hand, I dunno if that gore would be as palatable without the abstraction that the original PS1 models had.

I on the other hand enjoy Mortal Kombat.

Also I feel there's a direct correlation between the quality of an RE game and how graphically violent it is. The more they tone down the gore, the lower the quality of the game. I don't make the rules, that's just the way it is.

What? No Big Comfy Claire? Any idea why? She practically owns the role.

She didn't try to name a group of Mavericks after Metallica or something, did she?

I'm just assuming based on her not reprising Claire in the recent Revelations 2. She could come back, but I can't imagine they'd changed an established voice actor in multiple titles and movies for only one title.

Wesker says hello. In his 6 different voices.

That's kinda my point. Claire's been the only consistent voice actor up until now. There's an off chance it could have been a scheduling conflict, but I kind of doubt it.

Anyway it's not a big deal. I was being facetious.

My wishlist for RE2 remake:

- Ignore the fanbase entirely. For god's sake, this is paramount. They won't be happy unless it is literally the PS1 game with better graphics. Fuck the PS1 game, it's 2015, get it fixed.

- Make it control like Revelations 2 or RE6. Not even optional tank controls; make this the new way and force people to like it.

- Give infinite or near-infinite ammo. Running out of ammo is no fun.

- No inventory chess. Let me carry infinity of everything.

- Put in Raid mode with split-screen co-op, like in Revelations 2.

- Big poppin' headshots.

- Take out all puzzles and replace them with shooting.

- Have Sheva in it and have her be nude or close enough.

This wishlist has not been entirely serious. Though, coincidentally, it lines up exactly with what I believe.

I guess I'm not the fanbase then. Because I want it to be Resident Evil 2, but on 3DS and with Revelations' gameplay.

I can always play the original on my Vita and PS3, so I want a different experience.

The inclusion of this, on what is so clearly Opposite Day, is very confusing to me.

I mean, head shots were a really significant thing mechanically in GC RE, and RE2 was The Shockingly Gory One. Gotta preserve that. Especially when you're using that upgraded shotgun on regular ol' zombies because it's final escape sequence time and why not?
