A mobile version of Triple Triad would be aces.

They made and released this game, at least in Japan. It's a very bare bones single player experience and you reach the end of its content very fast.

edit: Looking it up, I think it was the thing that is in the Final Fantasy Portal App? It's in English too and free, so you can try it. Maybe they've updated it since then.

I just remember at one point someone made a Triple Triad website with decks for all the games out at that point (1-9) and it was crazy.

I remember and loved that website, but I also don’t believe it exists any more.

Personally i don't want to play Triple Triad outside of the context of FF8. It would be like reading a version of Lord Of The Rings without hobbits! Like eating cheese without goiabada!

Yes, this is a thing that exists and it goes all the way to Final Fantasy XV with its series-wide deck. Learned about it when I was looking up intel on mobile Final Fantasy games some months ago.

This is honestly how I feel too.

A big part of the fun of Triple Triad is how it's integrated into the world and also especially how it's probably the best way to break the game. I generally don't like to power level . . . but I do like playing so much Triple Triad in FF8 that I have done the equivalent of power levelling. Much more fun than killing statues in the basement in FF5.

Triple Triad exists in FF14. You can earn cards as rewards for clearing dungeons, or by random drops from playing NPC opponents all over the world. A lot of the same rules make a comeback from FF8, with a bunch of new ones that are different based on in-game time, day, and region. There isn't a rule pollination meta game to it, which would be insane for an MMORPG. But it's a neat thing to play around with while you're waiting on duty roulette queues or for party finder groups to fill up.

All these mobile game and website and MMO versions people are talking about. Didn't have any of that when I was in high school so I made my own handcrafted physical version of the game!

Hope you all want to buy Final Fantasy X/X-2 and XII again in April. The 16th and 30th, respectively.

Nice! I assume Basch is on all fours acting as a footstool and completely obscured by petticoats.

Or maybe Yoshida is embarrassed by A Shirt Disaster!?

Still waiting on news for FF7/9 Switch release dates, but I'll happily buy at least FFXII in April. Still not sure about revisiting FFX/X-2.

FFXII playable, in HD, with international upgrades, and portable might be too much for me to pass up.

I just barely limped across the finish line with Zodiac Age on PS4 while doing very little sidequests, definitely don't need to play it for some years.

So happy for 12

Portable really is the ideal way to play that game

Either...

a) This new art is too nice to besmirch with the presence of someone wearing a potholder in lieu of an undershirt.

or

b) At 36 years old, Basch is too much of a cranky old man to hang out with other FF protagonists and his oldness would also besmirch the art.

Is there any non-pedant difference between the Switch, PS4, and PC visuals? I already have it on PS4, and I could be pressed to get it on Steam if I wanted it portable, but a Switch port is a much better form of portability if the graphics don't take too much of a hit.

(And, argh, yet another Switch game I want that happens to be a port. At this point there's only three Switch-original games I'm interested in, everything else I want for it is just ports.)

Ports are good. If there's a game that you want to play, it really doesn't matter if it's available elsewhere.

The Switch game isn't out yet and there is no gameplay footage, so no one knows.

There's a good chance that Digital Foundry or someone will do a comparison video.

Presumably the Switch version is ostensibly worse looking because it basically always is, but possibly in ways you will never notice. It will depend on your sensitivity to these things. Mine is . . . extremely low. (I watch a lot of Digital Foundry comparisons and often can barely perceive the differences between various versions. I'm sure they bother some people, but not me!)

What are you talking about, Basch is right there. I've seen that guy without shirt walking around telling everyone that he is Basch fon Ronsenberg of Dalmasca.

I dunno, I feel like Ondore would have told me if Basch was still alive.

Considering that even with the new texture work it's basically just a slightly prettier PS2 game, I'm guessing the graphical differences will be minimal for this port.

That's probably going to be the last major challenge, aside from a handful of WoR sticking points.
Oof, I wasn't wrong. Ultros went down like a chump to solo Cyan, but Number 128 wrecked my shit a bunch of times. I was almost tempted to go into the fight with another party member to help out (I brought Gau along as a contingency) but I was able to succeed after a few attempts. The Net ability was the biggest stumbling block, since neither the Ribbon nor RunningShoes can prevent it, I eventually just had to throw myself at the fight until I got one where the boss never used it. I was still getting punked by one of the claws using Shimsham (HP halving) and I ultimately had to burn through all of my X-Potions and an Elixir for healing, but I got it down.

Rest of the WoB shouldn't be too bad now.

After throwing myself at Atma Weapon a few times I eventually gave up and exploited the Psycho Cyan bug. I don't feel the least bit sorry.

Yes, I know if I took Terra instead of Celes with me to the Floating Continent I could have had a party of four for the escape, but Terra was the highest level and I wanted the other three to catch up.

And I named Terra QUIBBY, incidentally. All the characters I'm not using have been renamed to a four-letter nonsense word: DERP, DARP, DORP, DIRP, GONK, GANK, GENK, and GUNK.

See, I don't even know how you got Cy-imp to do that, but it amused me greatly.
