Ya, I got to see it early, and was pleasantly surprised.

I watched Cars last week for the first time.

Why do the cars get tired and go to sleep?

WHY DO THE CARS GET TIRED AND GO TO SLEEP?

No, the cars need gas, but that's independent of being tired. The boy car was just riding in a big rig and he got sleepy and fell the fuck asleep

Dude was riding around in the back of a big-rig, that's got to be bad for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Tom Hanks told me the plot he wants for Toy Story 4. It'll be inspired by Cloud Atlas. The toys go to a recycling center not to be destroyed but to be disassembled and melted down and turned into park benches, soda bottles and many other plastic things. Then each toy's voice actor plays six different plastic things its toy has been turned into and the movie will toggle between six different storylines. Hanks is currently selling the idea to skeptics at Disney and Pixar since he enjoyed working on Cloud Atlas so much.

When the toys' plastic is recycled for Chines, Japanese, and European toys, will the voice actors mimic regional accents instead of handing the character to the corresponding regional VA?

Cloud Atlas had actors playing different races and sexes but that was controversial, wasn't it? Maybe some of column A and some of column B, the exact amount of each to be figured out by studio focus groups and actors' agents.

Not to be a downer but personally I'm pretty not-enthused by super baby shenanigans. OTOH there's a good chance that's just a small part of the movie that they're leveraging for the teaser, so it's probably fine.

(In addition to being pretty meh on entertainment babies in general I can't stop thinking about how terrifyingly dangerous it would be, though the movie may well address that point.)

Maybe they'll just give him invulnerability so that people aren't stressed out about him the whole time. It seems like he has a ton of other abilities anyway.

I canít speak for Kirin, but I think a super-baby is more dangerous to the world around it than itself!

Wendell has more what I was thinking - I'm sure the baby will be fine, but any non-invulnerable person within 50 meters is in mortal peril at all times.

According to Polygon, it takes place immediately (or at least shortly) after the first movie and focuses more on Elastigirl.

And itís already been established that that baby is an unstoppable killing machine.

John Lasseter taking leave of absence from Pixar amid 'Missteps'.

Looks like another star is about to fall.

EDIT: Yup.

This purge has been a wild ride so far and it's only getting started. Turns out that a pervasive culture of protecting harassers and normalizing harassment will result in a really large amount of harassment.

Finding Dory was fun if unnecessary, and I don't give a shit about anything related to Cars or Incredibles.

Think I'm pretty much done with Pixar until those motherfuckers greenlight Ratatouille 2. Rata2ille, if you will.

This one is pretty disheartening. Especially because it's not really Hollywood (Emeryville/Oakland) and is close to home, but still ends up tainted nonetheless. A charitable, benefit-of-the-doubt reading of the entire situation would be that Lassiter is just an overly friendly guy with personal space/boundary issues, but even then that still just highlights the institutional issues women have to face in the workplace - where unequal power relationships and little-to-no protections in place lead to situations where women feel they can't come out and address these issues without risking their livelihoods. The Purge is helping people come forwards, which is important, but I dunno how useful that is in the long run. At best, it'll be a fad which will come and go from the popular discourse, and when it's forgotten we'll still be left with all the same institutional issues that enabled this to begin with. I think all of this has to lead to some kind of sea change where HR departments in the private sector are heavily regulated and insulated from reprisals/influence. Or maybe just become independent entities once a company reaches a certain size. They need to be allowed to do their jobs, address employee complaints without fear of reprisals, and protect victims. At will employment also has to go, because you can't be allowed to just fire anyone for any reason, because that's how you enable this kind of predatory behavior to begin with.

On that regard, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack released a statement contradicting that Hollywood Reporter in her specific case, and painting a grimmer picture for Pixar in general:

https://twitter.com/brooksbarnesNYT/...50284838088705
(also important his first response: https://twitter.com/brooksbarnesNYT/...52782223208448 )

http://www.cartoonbrew.com/pixar/ras...ar-154912.html

That's not to defend Lasseter, of course, he still had to take that leave of absence for a reason.

I went in hoping that Coco would at least be better than the last two Pixar movies that I saw, and came out thinking it might be the best Pixar movie.

The outing of Lasseter makes me wonder what Steve Jobs did to women, if anything. Is anyone likely to come out with that, since he's no longer around to be punished? If he did anything, how right is it to say those things about a dead person?
