I need to share:

Capture the flag. We get a flag early and largely turtle up. I'm touching up sentries in the tunnel because they keep coming that way. We get a second flag close to the buzzer, while I'm all the way down the tunnel because why not, then this happens:

My sentries take out half their team while I'm sitting on their totally undefended flag, wait for it to respawn under overtime, run it back to make it 3-0.

And get a really really goofy PotG out of it.

Some Tracer design sheets.

There's something off about the first and third ones.

Also, I hadn't ever noticed that Tracers jackets wrists stick out like a pair of jodhpurs. That's great!

I do like how the anime designers took one look at those Future Crocs and said "No way, girlfriend."

Went to a gaming con today and the VAs for Symmetra, Zenyatta, and Roadhog were there.

Also they are nice good people.

Playing Overwatch lately is driving me crazy. There's two things that bother me, and maybe someone can explain them to me.

First, I don't know if it's even possible to cheat on consoles - though I've heard you can rig up a mouse-keyboard setup somehow, which yes is 100% cheating - but it doesn't seem like there's any middle ground between a bad sniper player and someone who REALLY seems like they're cheating, because they NEVER miss. I'm constantly seeing killfeeds of Hanzos and Widows that are just headshot-headshot-headshot, and they do this weird thing where the cursor will be moving slowly in one direction and then JUMP quickly to someone's head, perfectly every time. It beggars belief.

On the other end of the spectrum are the people who are just so bad, and they're always on my team. I genuinely believe that about half the people I play with should just be banned, because they're either losing on purpose or they've somehow played hundreds of games without learning what the buttons do and Blizzard should just put them out of their misery. I mean no not really, but I really don't get how you can be level 100+ and be THAT bad. Maybe more decent people are just playing competetive lately?

So far as I know, using a mouse and keyboard is about the limit of cheating on consoles.
You only see an enemy sniper's screen just after they've killed you, not when they miss. That means that all of the sniping footage you see is guaranteed to be competent and emotionally salient.

Consider that Overwatch is almost definitely not the first video game you've played, and probably not the first FPS, team-based or otherwise, yet for some people out there, it is. Being level 100+ doesn't mean they have the experience of lots of other games under their belts. I know my first few weeks in TF2 I must've seemed blatantly incompetent.

I never notice the bad players on the other team. I just feel like I'm playing really well.

I'm fairly conversant with my own skill level. There would be times in TF2 where I would, frankly speaking, curbstomp the opposing team. I would then realize the server population was well below my skill bracket and would leave.

The primary reason I stopped playing OW regularly - I maybe play it once a month now - is because of my own team members. I'm not the best player but being stuck with a Lucio who is the only healer but only plays the speed song or a Reinhardt who would much rather run off and try to find that Widowmaker than escort the payload? And there's no good way to report these people because they haven't done anything wrong- they're just playing the game a bit differently than expected.

My primary emotion when playing OW eventually became anger; anger became habit and when I started rounds preemptively angry, I knew it was time to step away.

I think OW is a fantastic game with a some terrible players. For me, it suffers from its own success. I just know that I really want to love the game but other people prevent me from doing that. I'll log in every so often to play a few rounds with my son - he still loves it - but that's about it. Oh, and the events where you can just stomp robots or whatever. Those are fun.

I'm pretty sure that once they finish working out the kinks (no jokes, plz) on the pve mode we've been beta testing for them, I will play a lot more OW with my friends.

Hey, they're back to advancing the story!

This is more of GI Joe/Cobra setup than was teased in the beginning and I think I like it.

Once again, Overwatch teaches us that commercialism is the one true evil, and that costumed idiots are the only ones who are ideologically pure.

So you should buy Loot Boxes to get a chance to become ideologically pure as well!

They really need to institute some kind of skill sorting or harsh penalties for players who don't give a shit in quickplay. It probably doesn't amount to anything, but I reported SO MANY people for "unsporting behavior" today who absolutely deserve to be relegated to some kind of crap players queue. It's a real bummer, because I don't want to have to do competitive with the seriousness and the long wait times and trying 3 or 4 times to get in a game that someone doesn't just quit right away. But AT LEAST half my quickplay games are just, welp, no one else on my team is playing and I can tell we've lost in the first 30 seconds.

Doomfist is live, but more exciting is that the Loot Box fix is also live! I got 5 Loot Boxes today and not a single duplicate in any of them!

I'll need to get used to the new highlight recording feature, because if I remembered it was there, I could show the part where Doomfist punched me off of a ledge, but I wallrode back to safety and threw him into a pulse bomb.

The Doomfist elimination mode is tons of fun. Easiest 3 lootboxes I ever got.

If you turn off Skirmish mode, the competitive wait times aren't that long

Skirmish mode = "please put me in a lower-priority queue because I can have fun running around".
