Maxamillian, the guy behind those amazing MvC3 tutorial videos, is taking his show in another direction...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dvm1DwQHCaE

...in to the 4th dimension.

So god damned hype, more for the BttF references than Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins, but still.

Oh man, that looks incredible. I can't believe they're depicting these characters as they appear in their respective series, rather then shoehorning them under one style.

so will johnny be in this game and will he or will he not be riding slow dancer yes/no

I saw the trailer and I was hype, and then the trailer ended and it said PS3 ONLY. The hype died for me right there...sorry.

I'll be getting it tomorrow as well. I'm actually looking forward to it - the more recent footage I've seen makes it look like it'll be fun.

I also picked up TTT2 recently, and that's been damn fun to play. The tweaks they made to the tag engine make it really interesting to theory around, and the roster is absurdly huge.

I also bought TTT2 over the weekend. It's the first Tekken I've decided to really play since Tekken 3 (and even that was only against the computer). The Tag system really reminds me of SFxT (which makes sense considering they copied the system from TTT1), but it definitely feels more natural here. I will applaud TTT2 for its tutorial mode -- I played through the Fight Lab last night and it was equal parts silly/hilarious and informative. It does the great thing where instead of just explaining a concept and having you do it one time, it instead makes an entire chapter dedicated to that concept, gradually teaches you something, and has you apply it over and over in order to beat the final section. I also really can't stress enough how much I enjoyed its silliness. The first chapter has Lili as the final opponent and it's trying to teach you about hitting high/mid/low, and after you hit her enough times her clothes break off and she's wearing nothing but a bra and panties.

Fight Lab was pretty great. The absurdity made it much more palatable. I don't know why, but I usually like big name games like this more when they're silly.

My favorite part was during one of the earlier Fight Lab missions, when Ganryu randomly flies in across the screen to mess with you. It makes absolutely no sense, and it put a big dumb smile on my face.

Spoilers ahead on what a huge pain it is:

So yeah, Alpha-152 survived DOA4 and is back and now upgraded! She no longer looks like a Jell-O Monster, but can almost full impersonate Kasumi, except for when she's damaged, then she glows and releases tendrils. Oh and in that last boss fight she can switch forms between Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate, AND Ryu Hayabusa! FUN!

But hey story mode is pretty fun up until that part, a bit crazy at times, and the mini-missions can be a pain the arse if you want to complete them AND win the match (otherwise it doesn't count, of course).

Riot, dude, many third party games that are PS3 exclusives in Japan have been released multiplatform in other territories. I don't know if this will leave Japan (Maybe if JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD is a success), but I doubt it'll remain PS3 only if it does.

I was kind of hoping that the final boss wouldn't be like that this time around, after Dimensions came and made things pretty breezy, outside of Tag Mode.

I got the game, but won't get a chance to play it until later tonight

Oh, of course I beat it after griping about it in the Gripe Thread. I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's more like Dimensions than the previous games. Though Dim. was only so breezy because it was a portable game. I just wish that Counters were more like they were in Dim. than what they are (i.e. DoA 4, with the forward + Counter button to counter kicks, god I hate that), also the timings on the counters seem a little off, but maybe it's just lag from the XBox to my TV or the Controller.

It's fun, Story Mode will take a couple of hours, now I'm working on costume unlocks. So far, Kasumi is done with 6 (2 default, 2 from story mode, 2 others), Sarah Bryant only has the 2 and that sucks, and I've unlocked Hitomi's third. New Character Mila (the MMA girl) is fun as heck to play as!

Default they're bringing jiggle back

I haven't bought a DoA game since 2 back on the Dreamcast and PS2. This latest one caught my eye because they actually updated the character models for the first time in twelve years. It's definitely one of the best looking fighting games I've ever played. A big step up from most other fighting games I've played and its own series in particular. The sweat and dirt effects make the characters look weathered without getting all wierd and messy like Mortal Kombat's blood and wound effects.

Still feels fun and feisty to just pick up and play, characters do enough cool stuff just by mashing buttons to grab your attention and when controlled by the computer abuse you in flashy enough ways to make you want to learn more. The stages are colorful and chaotic as ever, I kind of miss the days when they felt fresh though. Now it's like "Oh, I threw my enemy off a huge cliff and went charging off after them to slam them into the ground. Yawn. Seen it."

It's nice* to see that Team Ninja, even in Itigaki's absence, have absolutely no idea what difficulty levels mean. I played through Arcade mode on Goo Goo Gah Gah Super Baby difficulty and it was a nice breezy playthrough, nothing too challenging, so I decided to spice things up a bit by going just one measly little step up to Wimpy Little Bitch difficulty and the game proceeded to rape me savagely. Ok, to be fair it let me get up to round 8, which I was to understand would be the last round, but no, round 8 just kept going and going and going, I seriously fought like 5 or 6 opponents and they just got harder and harder until fucking Rig shows up and beats my fucking ass into the ground literally 30 times in a row with bullshit 11 hit combos that rip off a third of my life bar and perfectly countering almost every punch I throw at him. Then after I finally beat him I got an even harder Hayabusa thrown at me so I fucking quit an went back to Super Baby difficulty.

Look, guys, I don't mind if you make your game hard. But for christ's sakes if you have a difficulty that's called Easy it should actually be Easy. Throwing half a dozen SNK bosses on the second-lowest of like 8 difficulties is entirely inappropriate behavior.

Otherwise though I'm enjoying it and stuff. Even won an online match! That's pretty unusual for me!

*Depends entirely on one's definition of "nice".

hahaha, seriously? That's one of my favorite songs in the game, and that's saying a lot. My favorite stage themes are Spain/Indonesia/Brazil/China, but it's probably just behind those.

Story mode is pretty insufferable, but I've already beaten arcade mode 4 or 5 times now. And hey! An online mode that isn't a piece of shit in a fighting I have more than a casual interest in.

Yes and no. You only see Alpha in Story Mode, and she's a little infuriating. You won't have to beat her repeatedly to get costumes, though.

I only had about 20 minutes to play DoA5 yesterday, so I didn't get to dive into it too much, but my initial impressions were pretty positive.

First thing that struck me: for how much criticism DoA takes (not unreasonably so) for having insanely proportioned women, the one character model they seem to have revised to be more realistic (relative to DoA standards) was Bass.

He looks like he's only approximately 1/3 bear now, which is a dramatic improvement.

So how do you unlock costumes via story mode in this anyway? Because I've played through most of it and I haven't gotten a single one yet.

I finally played through Fight Lab myself. My favorite part was...Violet. I really want to play him now, even though I'm pretty sure his deranged absurdity doesn't really show the same way as a fighter, since he's mostly just regular Lee with a better/goofier outfit.

To this point I've been rocking Zafina/Miguel, since I'm always (sorta subconsciously) drawn to "new" characters over old ones. Original characters in long-running series always seem to have this issue of being kind of plain and conventional to me, while after they run out of basic archetypes they have to start going off the wall to make appealing new characters. Sometimes they turn out to be gimmicky nonsense (like Hakan in SF4), but I don't really have a problem with that. The bigger issue is that a lot of the old characters like Anna and Paul end up feeling stiff and awkward to me, with newer additions being a lot more fluid and easy to pick up.

I wasn't even sure I liked the game until I started messing with Zafina, at which point I found her crazy bending and creepy undulations way too hilarious and fascinating to not go deeper. Miguel just has my favorite fighting style, like Shen in KOF: get SUPER FUCKING MAD and throw your limbs out as hard as possible until they run into something.

But... Violet literally is Lee in a goofier outfit, isn't he? Did they do something weird his story in Fight Lab? (Haven't bought the game yet.)
