It's totally worth its own thread.

Yay! I started with the iOS version, and I can see that the 3DS version was probably superior. But now I've got Curtain Call.

It's highly recommended that if you're going to play this game, play the demo first. It gives you more choices as to which characters you start out with. To begin with, it gives you the four games associated with the characters you selected. For example, when I started out, I picked Squall, Lightning 1, Yuna 2, and Tifa 2. It gave me FF8, FF13, FFX-2, and FF7 Advent Children. When I played one track from all four soundtracks, it unlocked all the games.

Current DLC promo, running through the end of the month is an FF5 track and Beatrix's piano track from FF9. They're free, so grab 'em while they're hot!

I've only been able to play this on my lunch break so far, but it seems awesome.

I really hope that it'll be easy (or easier, at least) to level up new characters. One of my gripes with the original was that it took me 20+ hours to unlock characters that I wanted to use, but by that point, I was pretty much done with the available music. I guess the sheer number of tracks in this one will help.

Created a girl-power party to start: Terra, Lightning, Yuna #2 and Tifa #2. Why is Vaan the default FFXII hero and not Ashe? Bah!

Also, I don't care what Amano says, Terra has green hair dammit!

Was a bit dismayed at first to be restricted to tracks from the games of what heroes I selected, bur four tracks later I'd unlocked the other games, and soon after that I was trying Quests out.

And yeah, wow, Quests are a lengthy thing. Neat.

Two things I kinda miss from the original though:

1) I rather liked the ability to challenge a 'game' and do three quick tracks from it and be done, I enjoyed that more than just 'select one track to do, then do another if you want later'. Would have been neat to keep the ability to challenge a game and just randomize what tracks you get.

2) The cute little random quotes that accompanied the start of each track are one! "Boldly" "We go" "Thoughtfully" "In Laughter" or crap like that. Super sadface at that being gone.

EDIT: Also I am going to use this post now as a DLC repository. At least for tracks. I don't care about characters.

Those silly quotes are moved to level ups and the main menu. But they're more character-specific. Like, I've seen Rikku shout "Y-R-P!" on level up, and Yuna 2 saying "Are you real?"

Ramza says "Milk, please."

I usually turn the chimes off, but it's cool that you can substitute classic FF sounds now. I hope Bio is in there, as obnoxious as it would be.

So, speaking as a TFF noob:

The iOS version didn't let you screw around with character builds. This is new to me. It seems that you'd want to keep a high-agility character on point to cover FMS things. Am I right in guessing that? Because Rikku's Agility is shooting up like crazy.

You've made your lame reference joke in the thread title so long that you didn't have room for the actual title of the game, so I didn't know that this thread is about Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call until I opened it. This is getting out of hand. Something must be done!

Edit: thanks, whoever did that

Vs. Mode gives you the profile card of anyone you play. So we can use that to exchange quest maps in addition to streetpass this time, which is sweet.

Turquoise shards seem to be the ones to farm so far: Kain, Celes, Auron, Baltiher and Paine. And Rinoa I guess...

Ramza gets Shout. It boosts Str/Magic/Agi by 50 and costs 20 CP.

Does Farris get Steal? I haven't started leveling up either her or Locke yet...

So the demo has no Number Go Up, and it's not catching me. How much Number Go Up is in the full game?

The Up-Going Numbers can do things like let you miss more notes without losing, and...um. There are other things, I think. Maybe.

Higher strength/magic makes quicker work of monsters in Battle songs. Though that was most useful with Dark Notes before.

Okay, but, why is it important to kill things, is the question, I think.

At least, it's a question I'd like to know and am currently 36% of a download away from finding out.

In addition to Numbers Going Up, you can get skills that do various things, like damage mitigation, attacking enemies, or getting cooler stuff.

Well, with Dark Notes you had to kill a certain number of enemies to get to the boss, who had to be beaten to obtain cards. If you were too weak you could successfully finish the song without beating the boss, so no card. Not sure what mechanics are in play this go-round.

Finally finished downloading so I guess I'll find out tomorrow!

Basically, combat or travel happens in the background at all times and relies on the numbers, but the rhythm part of the game always takes precedent.

During combat each time you hit a note the character on that line attacks, dealing damage based on Str (I think, not 100% sure if magic isn't involved without looking it up). If you miss a note you take damage and lose you chain, you can use abilities to reduce or heal the incoming damage but none of the numbers affect your score for the stage (which is based on how well you hit notes). If you run out of HP you die. If you kill an enemy they may drop stuff, and to finish a quest and get the loot at the end you need to kill the final boss of that quest. Magic is stuff like Fire: deal damage after hitting 30 red notes.

For field sequences your stats affect how much ground you cover (mowtly Agi), and when you get far enough you get a bonus item. When you miss a note you trip, take damage and slow down.

Not really sure what luck and spirit do. Spirit may be for summons, Rydia and Yuna have it is rather high naturally. From the first game I think luck helped with stealing at least.

According to the tutorial, Luck and Spirit reduce damage taken during EMS.

They may also have other purposes in BMS or FMS, but their primary effect is during EMS.
