Default CATHERINE: It's Lucid, It's Erotica, It's Mutton

When Persona 3 and 4, REAL SEX ADULT THEMES BOY PARTS GIRL PARTS, and thinly veiled sheep dream symbolism combine!

You get...CATHERINE

From the fine folks who let you shoot yourself in the head over and over (symbolically) and brought you fine J-hip-pop (theoretically).

The basic info:

- The guy known as "Man Drinking Alone" from P3P is indeed the main male character in this game, named Vincent. He was talking about cheating on his girlfriend and his recurring nightmares of falling through the air that he thinks might be related to it. He also mentions a related falling-while-dreaming rumor that if you don't wake up before you hit the bottom you'll die in real life too.

- It's some kind of horror action adventure game.

- There is erotic imagery in the game, such as of Catherine's deep cleavage and Vincent in his boxer shorts.

- When boy meets girl, boy gets nightmares the same night and must climb an infinite or near-infinite stairway, beat up a bunch of sheeple, and contend with some demonic pair of hands in order to reach the top of this tower and wake up. No word yet if arbitrary, date-construed roadblocks will impede Vincent's progress up the stairs.

- The game's erotic soundtrack is being provided by Shoji Meguro, with its keywords being "classic", "adult-oriented", and "erotic."

- You can watch the Japanese trailer! It's pretty erotic, so I'd recommend doing so with a partner.

(WARNING WARNING WARNING: THERE ARE GIRL JIGGLIES BELOW!)

OH SHIT BAIL, MAN, BAIL

There you have it. This game will probably be rated "S" for "Only Satan can play it." So you know what that means, right?

You know, I wasn't really going to take 'sheeple' literally...

You forgot the part where the main character is turning into a sheeple.

I love it! The Persona team is obviously aware of how much time I wasted last year in school playing Persona 4, so they've purposefully designed Catherine so that I would never be able to play it as long as other people are in the room!

This looks both extremely dumb and extremely rad. But is it too hot for America? I suppose it depends on the amount of jiggling.

The weirdest part about this is that my wife's name is Catherine, so it's odd to see people on the Internet mentioning "Catherine" and "erotic" in the same sentence.

I liked Vincent's little teaser in P3P. That was a nice addition without being overly obvious about it (red text notwithstanding).

I love how people are talking about this game as the next SMT spinoff because the P3P cameo made it canon.

Yes. You know, like everything Suda 51's done was too hot for America. And God of War III was too hot for America.

I'm pretty interested in seeing the gameplay and, more importantly, level design. Keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be good, in spite of what we saw in P3 and P4.

(And then hopefully being able to use what they've learned with Catherine's levels to bring actually craft dungeons that don't suck for the Persona games)

Eh, I dunno. The Persona 3/4 concept spun off Megami Ibunroku Persona which spun off of SMT if... which spun off of SMT1. But by now, the only similarities between P4 and SMT1 are the concepts of using mythological entities for battle and fusion, and even those are employed differently.

On the one hand, I see nothing (in the trailer) that would link Catherine to any part of the Megaten franchise; on the other, I wouldn't rule out Atlus venturing into the more psychological aspects of Persona and dispensing with previous gameplay concepts altogether, or refining them into something vastly different (maybe it will take off from the Social Links concept instead of Demon Fusion.) But this branch of the family tree would be so removed from the main SMT roots that it would effectively be a whole new series.

Except all games in the series have the trademark demons. Even if... There are none in sight in this game. (No the sheeple don't count.)

You know, unless future screens magically show them. But if this really was an SMT game, don't you think they would be crowing about it to anyone who could hear it? The series is big over in Japan.

It's awesome that my work computer just has a bunch of boxes with red X's in them for all of Eirikr's pictures, so this thread just sounds like complete babbling.

That trailer was pretty baffling. Curious what the actual game will be.

One way out, baby
Lord I just can't go out the door

Ain't but one way out, baby
Lord I just can't go out that door

Cause there's a demon out there
Might be your demon, I don't know

I'm intrigued. The concept seems like it has potential to do some really interesting things and explore themes not often dealt with in games, but I somehow doubt they will be treated in an appropriately mature manner. In the meantime, who wants to replay Silent Hill 2?

I'm hoping the sexuality we've seen so far leans more towards being unsettling rather than pandering, but I do like what I've seen so far. Plus, Soejima's art and Meguro's music are pretty much the requirements to sell me a game I know nothing about.

This game looks neat.

i actually loved the trailer. it's one of the best produced game vids in recent memory. i'd be even more sold if this weren't an SMT game, and i didnt have to spend a thousand hours breeding monsters.
