Probably because Alita was already their waifu, while Captain Marvel has become a feminist icon in a company that has produced several feminist comics lately. I still remember the flame war when Marvel had that Mockingbird cover with the "feminist agenda" t-shirt.

It doesn't really have anything to do with the film itself— several of the people who are now boosting Alita previously derided it. It's just about having another female-lead film they can point to as "actually good", so they can defend against accusations of misogyny.

Did you read the explanation? The pink and blue dots are where the top movies place on the gendered list of top 100 movies, and the lines are the distance between their positions. Hope that helps.

The Disney acquisition of Fox has just finished. I can't say that thrills me, but it is what it is.

The Disney Company website reflects this.

Seems they now own Atlanta, The Simpsons, Baseball and Chimpanzees. I can't wait for their company's reboot of Chimapanzees. Granted, they'll be safer with the edges filed off a bit, but the quality of the animal will be more consistent with a new Chimpanzee coming out each year.

Personally I think before we go all in on the "men are from Geek Mars, women are from Geek Venus" takes, I think we should maybe we should consider if there are other factors at play, like, say, the relative ages of people to choose to openly identify as male or female on Letterboxd.

The person who made the chart says that too:

Well, what is the point of extrapolating all these "woke", self-important takes from this dataset if it's flawed, is what I'm trying to say. Like, there are interesting things to take away from both lists! Like, I find it pretty fascinating that Captain America: The Winter Soldier sits on #54 of the Women's list, which, so far as I know, doesn't appear on any other version of the favorites list, male, nonbinary, or all-inclusive. But I don't find it very illuminating to be like, oh, women are beyond the sexist cultural classics like 2001, The Big Lebowski, and Fargo (72 on the men's list, nowheresville on the women's) when a) it's more likely that the women's list just shows a bias against older movies in general, and b) about 80% of the site's users haven't specified a gender, anyway. Frankly, I find this bullshit pretty othering. At least "women be upvoting romance movies" doesn't pretend it's progressive.

Counting the number of "likes" for a movie is not going to tell you how much people actually like it. It's naturally skewed towards more recent movies. Doesn't mean the data isn't interesting to look at.

William Sadler will be the Grim Reaper again assuming that no evil forces stops the Bill and Ted movie. This is good.

I just want to know if this is a reunion for Bill, Ted and Death or has death just been hanging out with them all this time.

He did have a poorly received solo career if I’m remembering the end of Bogus Journey correctly and if I’m not, I’m choosing to believe that happened anyway.

But he did win the Indy 500 (on foot) so things weren't all bad for him.

Has anybody made a Katamari Damacy knockoff in which you're Mickey rolling up everything into your Katamari?

Mark Hamill is the new voice of Chucky, the killer doll. I never would have thought of that but that is perfect.

Definitely makes sense, the guy's got decades of voice acting experience.

And checking his IMDb, I noticed he's done Chucky before on Robot Chicken. Huh. Assuming it's "killer doll" Chucky on RC, anyway.
