When I was watching it, I kinda felt like it was somehow cheating and just skipping to all the bits you'd mention to someone as high points of a show without actually first making that show.

Don't know if that's a compliment or an insult or what, but it's definitely what it is.

In the ongoing tale of “Amazon Prime Canada’s selections are frickin’ weird”, The DC Universe miniseries, Amethyst Of Gemworld (no relation to Steven Universe) is available. And that is seemingly 100% of the DC content on the series. It’s loosely based on the original 80s run of the comic, just as a Legend of Zelda/She-Ra analog instead of a proto-Sailor Moon.

Additionally, the entire series is 7 minutes long. All killer, no filler.

So if you want to watch a jarringly paced magical girl fantasy series and don’t have ten minutes to spare, and also don’t mind a How to Draw Manga art style, then this is great! Please proceed!

There’s a series of shorts and character intros up too.

Looks like they reworked the concept to be closer to the Lauren Faust shorts from a few years ago. I’m interested to see what they can do with the new GL. If she’s a pacifist, there should be some more creative applications of the power ring than big green laser.

To be clear, they straight up gave the show to Lauren Faust, I don’t think she was involved in the web series that has been going on for the last few years (but yeah, clearly working off her “super best friends forever” shorts).

My kid watches all the my little pony so hearing twilight sparkle come out of batgirl is a bit jarring but I’ve really enjoyed all the shorts. Supergirl being a swole punk rocker just makes sense, you know?

Oh cool. I did Octo level research, so I didn’t know they gave it to Faust straight up. I figured the creator credit was from the previous short concepts.

Seems like they borrowed a lot of her look and characterization from Power Girl.

I watched through Disenchantment (that new Matt Groening show) over the last few days. It was surprisingly good, with a lot of really fun jokes. And it had enough continuity to give a feeling of development, but not too much for a mainly episodic show.

Then I got to the last episode, which is just a giant cliffhanger and the show immediately lost all its "well done" points. I really, really hate this practice, of making the last episode of a season into a cliffhanger. It feels way too manipulative. If I enjoy the show, I will continue to watch it anyway, you don't need to small-scale addict me.

Maybe this is an overreaction, but there are way too many good shows out there that I like equally or more.

I discovered that there was an episode of Gumball where the father dresses up as a Golden Girl to hang out with the other Golden Girls, because he couldn't find any male friends. Except all the other Golden Girls were similarly disguised, minus the Sophia expy who was just an old lady. Yeah, all that happened.

Probably worth noting, this is her 80's costume. It's not nearly as recognizable, so it made me wonder if there was a reason for the switch.

I discovered the Final Fantasy 7 episode (the What a Cartoon podcast just covered it) and it reminded me how brilliant this show is.

They’re very similar, except for the choice of leg-wear, honestly.

Just this is a superhero costume that looks like a tuxedo, instead of a regular-ass tuxedo.

They finally wrapped up the events of The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo in a straight to video feature! Yay! But Velma unraveled the plot of the entire damn show with her scientific reasoning. Less yay. Velma wasn't even in that series! What makes her think she can just butt in and ruin everything with her damn logic? At this rate, the next movie will have her pulling masks off the cast of the Ghoul School.

So I watched The Kirlian Frequency on Netflix and... this is Nightvale. Extremendously Nightvale. Litigiously similar, even.

It’s a short animated series about the small deeply weird Argentinian town of Kirlia, mainly told from the perspective of a late night radio host. A couple episodes are just short stories from people calling in to the station, rather than developing news stories.

The main (and only) difference is that Nightvale frequently leans in to Humor and a pretty extensive cast for its storytelling. Kirlia just leans into horror enough that the occasional glimpses of Humor feel kind of weak. Except for the King Of Christmas episode which, honestly, feels enough like a Nightvale ep that I almost had to double check to see if it actually was one.

I do like the art style though. Nothing particularly fancy, just flash animation with lots of silhouettes, but it works really well with the tone. And since there are only 5 10-15 minute episodes, you can watch the whole series in less than an hour.

In conclusion: Joseph’s Fink and Jeffrey Cranor are beloved in Argentina.

Saying "it's like Night Vale but it isn't funny" doesn't really do anything to distinguish it from Night Vale, which also isn't funny.

I haven’t sat down to watch Batman TAS since the original DVDs came out, so watching the HD remaster was kind of shocking. Not just because of the sharp clean look of the remaster work super well with Timms hard, angular art, but (and this isn’t news), it’s iust a jarringly good looking show on its own accord.

Pretty sure that the first episode was made by TMS, though, so... of course it would be, but there are so many little animation flourishes in addition to the big extravagant (jaw-dropping) action scenes. Just... just wow.

So Batman: The Animated Series.

It’s a good cartoon.

Boo, just learned that Star Vs is ending next month. I’m losing shows faster than I’m picking them up. I may have to learn a new skill or contribute to society!

It’s a good show, annoying theme song withstanding. Worth a look if you like your silly sailor moon parodies backed by plenty of lore and drama. Brilliant voice cast.
