Default The "narcodis plays music" all-purpose megathread

MAIN SOUNDCLOUD TO HEAR MOST/ALL MY STUFF: https://soundcloud.com/twinplus

This is where I'm going to post all my "LOOK GUYS AT THE THING I DID WITH MUSIC" posts, hopefully it doesn't bother everyone all that much!

Master List of Projects I've been involved in
The Wasatch Fault (I played bass starting in 2013, band broke up in 2016):
https://thewasatchfault.bandcamp.com/
Indie/punk rock with lots of huge guitars. The last album we made I feel like was maybe the most meaningful album I've contributed to in my life. The bulk of it was written in the wake of both our singer's father and my brother-in-law passing away. I still think about some of the lyrics and some of the hooks we wrote as a band. I am also incredibly proud of the bass lines I wrote on that album as well. I'd really like to play bass in a band again sometime, I think!

L'anarchiste (I played keys/guitar from 2012-2014, band is defunct as far as I know):
http://lanarchiste.bandcamp.com
"Whispercore", for fans of stuff like Sufjan Stevens and other super soft indie rock. I had a bit of a falling out with the lead songwriter (seems like maybe everyone else did at this point, too!)

Twinplus (Album written, recorded and released in 2011-2012):
http://twinplus.bandcamp.com
Post-hardcore stuff with lots of yelling and heavy guitars/drums.

Fox Van Cleef (Blues rock; played keys from 2009-2012):
http://foxvancleef.bandcamp.com
Psych/blues/soul rock band. I am really proud of the stuff we made. Our singer has a tom waits sort of vibe, and our guitarist had two pedalboards to make his guitar sound super nuts. I played keys and contributed backing vocals on lots of stuff.

Totally playing some L'anarchiste on my radio show tonight. I am loving this new EP (which I got early thanks to Kickstarting!).

L'anarchiste is in the running to be played in regular rotation on some UK radio station called "Amazing Radio", by way of some Audition program. Being a landlocked Utahn, I have no idea if this is a big deal or not, but we're currently in the lead by a margin of a few percentage points. If you want to help us out, just click the link and vote for "L'anarchiste - Juneau": http://amazingradio.com/?show=audition

I made a remix of a megaman 5 tune. It's the "weapon get" song, and even though the original song isn't much more than a 3 second loop, it's one of my favorites.

Soundcloud link to the track, titled "Spinnin' 'round".

http://www.daytrotter.com/#!/concert...57157-37384189

this is the daytrotter session we recorded over the summer. Complete with a daytrotter illustration of the band.

This might not only be the coolest thing I've ever done, but also the coolest thing I'll ever do in my whole life. All downhill from here!

My band now has a music video. This was written and filmed by students of Salt Lake Community College. They asked us to be a part of it, and we were happy to oblige.

The result is... cool..?
The closeup of Grant, our horns/keys player at the 2:06 mark is my favorite part of the video.

Also, I'm the dude with glasses playing a guitar.

I made a theme song for Comedy Bang Bang's "plugs" segment. I don't know if it'll get accepted. Regardless, this is the first time I've recorded guitars at home in a very long time, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

I recorded some more guitars over an old jam I had sequenced out. It was previously using keyboards in lieu of guitars and sounded real dumb. Now it sounds kinda cool!

butt jamz: buttpocalypse now

Made some more musics. Actually, just re-did a really old track I wrote maybe.. 5 years ago? 4.5? Anyway, it's some boss battle music and I really like it. The synths sound a bit cheesy, but they were FREEEE, so not gonna complain about that.

TENACIOUS D GAVE MY MUSIC THE SEAL OF APPROVAL.

I made a "Plugs" theme song for the podcast Comedy Bang Bang. I felt pretty good about the way it sounded, but I was thinking they weren't going to use it since it had nearly been a month since I submitted mine (and I was hearing theme songs being used that I know for a fact were submitted well after mine was).
Anyway, much to my surprise and excitement, they played my plugs theme song with guests Tenacious D in the studio. They made some pretty nice remarks about my song!! They called it a tasty jam! They rated it 8/10!! Jack Black fucking said, AND I QUOTE, "I wanted to hear more".

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To hear someone that famous and that prominent as a musician say something that cool about MY music was pretty much the coolest thing EVER!

this is unequivocally the most proud I've ever been of myself as a musician, even if it was over a dumb 30-second jam that is mostly meaningless.

you can hear the podcast itself here:
https://soundcloud.com/comedybangban...us-joe-wengert
my plugs theme song is played at about 1:25.10

I have posted a new thing to my soundcloud. I arranged the FF3 boss music and am pretty pleased with the results. Any feedback would be pretty sweet.

Checking out some of your stuff. I will be up front and say that L'anarchiste and Twinplus aren't really my style. However, your band is very good at what they/you do. Twinplus, well, very good guitar playing. I wish I could sing and scream and do some kind of vocals.

Point is, even if your style isn't precisely my style, I recognize and appreciate your talent and creativity. This makes you very cool and I kind of envy you. I would like the stuff I do to sound this professional.

Also I did like the song "Iron" from the EP, especially as it starts to build up towards the end.

edit: And there are moments of the Twinplus stuff that I personally dig. I was expecting something a little heavier since you described is as "very aggressive" and well I'm a huge metalhead and listen to a lot of extremely heavy and brutal stuff. But this is in no wise a criticism of you. Some of your riffing is kind of progressive, which I like. Some of my bass riffs are slightly progressive too. I just don't play as well as you, haha.

super edit: ooo I really liked the melodic break in "Dog Food City."

Whoa, thanks sly! I was really proud of how that album turned out when I recorded it. Some of those recordings are (wow) three years old by now. I can't say I've really written much more music since then, unfortunately. I'd love to hear some of the stuff you've played!

I checked out a couple more things you've posted in here. I think I need to go back and listen to the EP though, at least to hear "Iron" again.

Keep on creating. Creating is awesome. If you want to hear my crappy recordings, there's this thread. I just link to the same soundcloud page over and over again, haha. (But we can talk about it in there if you like. I still have couple more things of yours in here to check out.)

Yeah....
It's still a great album though. And I did write most of the words to the title track "Giant", so there's that.

Been jamming with a band since September where I'm writing the music and playing guitar and singing! It's been a long time since I've done that with a full-ass band.

We've written somewhere around six or seven songs. We plan to write and record a full-length album before the end of 2018, hopefully sooner than later.
