Is that the set that comes with Kirk's dropkicking legs as an alternate piece?

Probably should have filled in the rest of Starfleet on that one ...

Someone please help me identify those sounds effects. I know that I should know them, but I can't quite bring it to mind, and it's driving me crazy.

It does come with jumping legs, but unfortunately, you can't setup Kirk's patented double-leg drop kick.

I've heard the anthology idea before - get reasonably big names to commit for 13 episodes filmed over a summer, but no more, then get a new crew later.

It's maybe too ambitious for CBS' streaming service, but they're putting the Good Wife spinoff on there as well so they obviously want it to work.

I'm thinking they might be from Final Fight. They sound very side scrolling beat 'em up-y to me.

To be fair to Kirk, there is nothing bad about what came from this.

You know you'd watch it.

Peter David made it something of a running gag in his books that no one in Starfleet believed a word Kirk ever submitted in his reports (presumably because they thought he was covering for the Enterprises trips to every alien brothel in the galaxy).

And, really, when every other captain is submitting stuff like "mapped two new star systems, no developments", if a guy comes along talking about Space Lincoln and logic-ing a computer to death you'd tend to not believe him.

Good Wife spinoff???
I don't watch the show so I can provide no context, but, yeah, they're doing a digital-only spinoff. CBS isn't fucking around with their streaming service.

Logo-only teasers are dumb. They should have saved everyone the disappointment and themselves the money and just done a press release.

Also, being "digital-only" on CBS own streaming services presumably means the show is going to be locked behind some sort of pay wall. A cursory look at CBS All-Access tells me that's precisely the case, and... well, in a world where Netflix and Hulu carry 99% of anything I'd ever care to watch, I guess I'll never get to watch the new Star Trek.

But it's cool. Everyone's gotta have their slice of that sweet, sweet digital pie.

It's going to star Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and Lucca Quinn, the new lawyer from the final season. I doggedly kept following Good Wife until the end, but without Alicia, I can't say I'm particularly interested.

Great interview w Justin Lin over on Wired about his history w Star Trek & how much the backlash against the teaser stung him. Up next from Lin: Space Jam, then Lone Wolf & Cub. Raider if the thought of Sung Kang as Ogami Itto leads to an erection lasting four hours or more, please seek medical attention.

A Taste of Armageddon gets 10/10 for its title alone. The actual core of the story around that title is captivatingly stupid.

The Enterprise stops by to say "howdy-do" to a planet that's been gripped in an interplanetary war for centuries. And when they land they're surprised to see no signs of damage or conflict whatsoever. According to the president of the planet, this is because both sides rely on a complicated computer algorithm to simulate warfare, and then politely encourage any citizens declared to be killed by enemy action to commit suicide, for added realism. That way they can have a war without any collateral damage or wasting time or resources building weapons. And uh-oh the Enterprise was caught in the blast zone of the most recent pretend-attack, so everyone on board needs to kill themselves as well.

Kirk says what we're all thinking ("this is the stupidest planet I've ever seen. What the hell is wrong with you?"), so he smashes the computer running the simulations encouraging either a real war, or both sides to agree to peace talks, since neither side actually wanted to fight in the first place, and then he leaves because Kirk doesn't give a damn about the consequences of anything he does.

Also, for the first time, they call it the United Federation of Planets instead of "Earth".

What you have to appreciate about that episode is how it works on two levels.

On the first, we've got a really serious message about people ignoring the human cost of war.

On the second, we've got people going "Hey! I shot you! You've gotta fall down!" and the Enterprise crew going "Yeah no we're not playing go away."

So I've been watching DS9 Season 2 again, and the episode I watched last night bugs the hell out of me.

I saw Paradise once several years ago when I caught a re-run, and it bugged me then too but I couldn't quite place why (I also missed the first half of it then, so).

Ultimately I think I'm put off because no one made a greater case for the people that died. Sisko makes one half-hearted "What of the dead?" protest, granted he was severely dehydrated and exhausted at the time, but none of the villagers are the slightest bit upset over the others that died just so one woman could play god with their lives to prove her own personal philosophy? (A philosophy that just so happened to leave her in charge the entire time, I might add)

I can understand some choosing to stay, though the fact that they ALL do is another thing I call bullshit on, but that not one of them has a 'wait a minute, what ABOUT the dead?!' moment when they learn that Alixus could have turned off her technology-shutter-offer device (powered, ironically enough, by technology) and called for help to try to save the lives of anyone who was dying but chose not to in order to preserve her 'paradise' should have been absolutely infuriating, but it didn't even warrant a 'meh'.

I dunno, like I said, it all just bugs the crap out of me.

Oh, I certainly appreciated that part. But I've seen 200-ish episodes of Trek so far and this was, by far the stupidest plot I've seen so far.

Even counting stuff like "Barclay has a cold which causes people to start turning into animals" and "The Enterprise comes to life and the crew has to help it give birth".

It sounds just a touch like Kate Mulgrew to me, but that's probably not her.

Also, the ship we see flying around at the end of the trailer looks a heck of a lot like the Enterprise NX from Enterprise. The new uniforms look like something from that show, too.

Nah, that's definitely not it. I just spent half an hour Googling and reading YouTube comments (blarg) to see if I could find the answer, or even anyone else asking the question, but no dice.
