Default I Had Something For This: The Archer Thread

So it looks like they're blowing up the whole show, basically. The montage in the first episode has me pretty damn pumped for this year.

I'm looking forward to it. Also, my favorite bit was probably Pam's hand down her pants when Cheryl was going on and on about being tased.

Watched this. It's making me so damn stoked for the new season. It's funny that they finally killed a character off

The only thing they could do to make it perfect is to bring Wendell from Frisky Dingo. Hell, Adam Reed needs to do more voices in general. I think he only does Ray on Archer, who is always funny.

Is that what they're actually going to do this season? I wouldn't be surprised if it were a one-off gag. BUT it's gonna be AWESOME if it is

From what I've read, Adam Reed got bored with the show as is, so he decided that they're just going to change the entire premise. I can't say I've ever seen a show do that before.

Well, successfully, or recently. I wasn't really worried as it's always been about the characters, but seeing the montage made me drool.

Yeah, considering some of the misadventures they've gotten up to before (pirate king) I don't think this season (as outlined in the montage) will feel any differently than before. Want it nowwww

From the montage, it looks like Pam loses a lot of weight this season. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Also, Lucky Yates's name is in the opening credits. So more Kreiger, maybe!

I figure Pam's weight loss is from her also-shown new amphetamine problem.

Not having the ISIS office will be a little different. I wonder if they'll just have a new location for all of the futzing-around-the-workplace subplots or if they'll just be replaced by cocaine shenanigans.

You know, I'm watching Season 4 right now and the fact that ISIS is, through a combination of greed and/or incompetency, practically a terrorist organization by the end of the season makes this change-up even less jarring.

Also it's pretty amusing that the kids didn't even have speaking roles in the Bob's Burgers parody at the start of the season but at the end both Gene and Louise's voice actors make guest appearances.

I'm pretty sure Pam's instant cocaine addiction is going to be near the top of best parts of the season.

"Like eating mint chocolate chip ice cream! In your drawer... at the morgue."
"*increased heavy panting*"

Honestly, every second and line of the cold open was gold. Ray voice-coaching Cheryl/Carol! "DOOOOOOOOHHHHH"

How awesome is it that they changed the opening credits to that new logo? Very awesome.

"Oh my god Lana, Lana, you know what I could totally go for right now?"
"...Some cocaine?"
"Right?!"

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed we didn't get a synthpop version of the theme, but I guess that's a bit greedy.

I'm still in the early parts of Season 4, but I just wanted to say that "shut your dick holster" is my new favorite comeback.

So it seems this season IS going to follow the outline of Archer's flashforward in the premier?

I'm totally okay with that.

Also, I just rewatched the season one episode with Ramone and the two gay hitmen, and so it was especially great to see them come back.

The AV Club has a "season 5" review based on the first five episodes, along with an interview with Adam Reed, and it looks like the premise holds for the entire season.

I like that consuming quantities of Cocaine that would make Tony Montana blush (I'm sooo not up-to-date re: cocaine-associated cultural icons) has no discernible effect on Pam's personality.

I plowed through Season Four over the course of a few days and just got caught up this week. I gotta say, blowing the show up was definitely the right move. Season Four was great, but definitely felt like it was spinning its wheels. As amazing as Archer is, the spy aspect was pretty much the least interesting thing about it. I could give you favorite character moments, but I honestly can't remember the details of most of the missions. Most of them boiled down to "Archer ruins everything, Lana and [second agent] get mad, Archer fixes/ruins everything." Which is fine, because the plot isn't why I watch Archer. The gun fights and globetrotting just made the character banter more entertaining.

All the amazing banter is still there, but now there's an actual plot going on. The characters have clear arcs (Lana sticking around doesn't make sense, but whatever). They've accounted for details like how many guns the team has or how much cocaine is left. Cheryl and Pam were integral to solving the latest episode's threat, rather than being shoehorned in because they're hilarious. The show is firing on all cylinders and I love it.

Have you already forgotten Cheryl's speech?

Quote:
Please, if you really cared, you'd resign, but there's no way you ever will, because you're just counting the days until, her face bloated and yellow from liver failure, she calls you to her death bed and, in a croaky whisper, explains that Mr. Archer is totally incompetent and that you, the long-suffering Lana Kane, are the only one qualified to run ISIS and you weep shameful tears because you know this terrible place is the only true love you will ever know.
Lana sticks around because she has nothing else. Even with ISIS broken down this group of jackasses she hates are the closest things to friends she'll ever have.

That speech was about her attachment to ISIS, not any of the people who worked there (though she is very much attached to Archer, to her dismay). But you're probably right, and it's not really worth getting worked up over one way or the other.
