Weirdest thing: They introduced a new kind of Lay's up here, I think it was Paprika & Sweet Onion, and they taste almost if not exactly like the old KC Masterpiece barbeque flavor they used to have.
...and in trying to remember the name, I can't find anything about this flavor online right now, at least officially (once Nadia reminded me of the name, I got a direct link to a product page on Lay's website in the search results... that wants a login). WTF. Also, Chalet Sauce Lay's are back. |

Have not laid eyes on the Spicy Taco flavor at all around here. The Fried Tomato was good.

I saw some sort of Limited Edition Tikka Masala Pringles at Walmart yesterday and picked em up on a whim.
They're surprisingly decent, as far as tasting anything like Tikka Masala goes. Maybe a tad saltier than normal, though the only other Pringles I ever buy are Sour Cream and Onion. Honestly it's a shame they're limited, I'm temped to pick up another one or two before they're gone. |

Oh, are they a Walmart exclusive? That would explain why I haven't been able to find any at my usual stores.

I finally tried some of those fancy Canadien "All Dressed" flavor chips (via the US Ruffles release of the flavor), eh?
They're... fine. A perfectly decent snacking chip. The vinegar kind of dominates, but there's plenty of ketchup/barbecue going on underneath along with maybe a few other subtler flavors. Ok fine, they were good enough that I ate too many. |

So Lays is doing the new limited time flavors thing again, and the three for us up here in Canada are Grilled Cheese, Pizza, and Taco.
No, uh, not super inspired this time. But I think this is a different thing from the annual contest for submitted flavors? I dunno. But anyway, I've tried Grilled Cheese so far, and you'd think it would just be a cheese-flavored chip, maybe with some extra butteryness, but nope. The bag clearly has an image of some ketchup on the side (because people all the time dip their grilled cheeses in ketchup? I suppose? I mean, I never have, is that even a thing?) and as a result we have a chip that tastes half-cheesey and half-ketchupy. Honestly the ketchup flavor overpowers the cheese most of the time, though it isn't as sharp as Lays regular ketchup flavor. So I guess if you always wanted a Lays ketchup chip that was just a bit less intense and also had some cheesiness to it, give it a shot. I have higher hopes for Pizza and Taco. |

Bacon Wrapped Jalepeno Popper is weaksauce.
The cream cheese and bacon dominate and the Jalapeno feels like it's yelling from the nosebleed seats in Cowboys Stadium. |

I don't know about no ketchup, but tomato soup is a pretty common compliment to grilled cheeses.

I have never eaten ketchup on a grilled cheese and I am a bit of an authority on the subject of applying ketchup to foods that offend both man and god.

I've tried the next Lays flavor, Pizza. I like it. It's not super creative, but it's good. It tastes almost exclusively like pizza sauce, and not really any particular pizza toppings, but I think that works. As far as tomato-based chip flavors go I like this a hell of a lot more than Lays ketchup, which is way too vinegary. This isn't nearly as sharp, and is kind of herb-y.

I've heard of people putting mustard in a grilled cheese sandwich (but that might be an entirely different type of offensive).

You put mustard on sandwiches that have cheese, right?
You put mustard on cheeseburgers, right? What's the difference then, in putting mustard on a hot sandwich? I actually have mustard w/ my grilled cheese sandwiches all the time. I usually use it as a dip though. |

A good grilled cheese can stand on its own, nothing else added.
However, as a lover of mustard, I am now curious... (Bacon or lobster grilled cheese are good, too.) |

And finally the last of the three flavors, Taco. It's alright, but it feels a little bland. Like it's missing... something. It's kinda like Pizza, where the flavors of the sauce and little else are prominent, this just tastes like taco seasoning on a chip which, while not bad, I'm not sure can hold up alone the same way the pizza-sauce flavor did.
So of these three Pizza turned out to be my favorite, and Taco barely edges out Grilled Cheese largely because I just don't care for Lays ketchup flavor. |

Not super interested in Pumpkin Pie chips. Stuffing could be interesting, and I'd bet dollars to donuts that the turkey one tastes reminiscent of Lays Roast Chicken, which seems to be exclusive to Newfoundland? Or at least, Atlantic Canada.
Speaking of which. If you're in Toronto and want to try some Newfoundland-specific confections, give this store a look. 'Craig's Cookies' it's called, not sure where it's located but starting tomorrow it will be selling items from The Rock, including soda and potato chip flavors. This ain't the thread to comment on soda (though I have enjoyed a Pineapple Crush or two when I was younger, probably wouldn't like it now though, it's excessively sweet from what I remember) I CAN comment on the chips. Honestly I personally never cared for either Roast Chicken or Fries and Gravy, though members of my family adore them. Give em a shot and see for yourself if you're in the neighborhood. But the biggest draw for that store, in my opinion, are the Nacho Cheetos (do cheesies count for this thread? Eff it, cheesies count for this thread, so says I the thread creator), they're a favorite of mine. I just wish they were available in a soft Cheeto form (which they sometimes are whenever Cheetos puts out that Party Mix of theirs). But I highly recommend them regardless, I spent many a recess allowance on a bag of them in elementary school. |

I can confirm that Lays Roast Chicken chips (and Fries'n Gravy, for that matter) are available in other parts of Atlantic Canada, as they're a favourite of mine. Also available, and also a favourite, are Nacho Cheetos. I didn't realize that either of those were local! You poor sods that have to live without.
ETA: That said, I think Cheddar Jalapeno has recently dethroned Nacho as my favourite Cheeto flavour, although honestly I try to stay away from all of them these days because they're caloric and I can't consume them responsibly. |

I was in a gas station store today while driving through the district and noticed that they had all-dressed chips on the rack?!
The chips had a little note on the bag saying their a "Canada Favorite." I bought them! |
