Default Heart Burst From Chest Songs

Weird thread title, but hear me out.

There's a certain type of song that I refer to as "Heart Burst From Chest Song." What I mean by that is songs that make me feel like my heart is too big for my chest because of the swell of (mostly positive) emotion they cause. They're fist pumping, up beat, and anthemic, but they're not JUST that - they're also tinged by a certain nostalgia for a party I'll never get to go to or an adventure I'll never get to have. I recognize that this is an entirely subjective, and hard to describe feeling, but I love songs that evoke it (as objectively silly as this may sound, and as objectively silly as some of the songs may be), and I'm always on the hunt for more. Here are three examples:

Do you have any songs that qualify?

I think these are going to vary wildly by what sets peoples' heart strings on fire.

Yep! I recognize this is extremely subjective; part of this exercise is to see what other people consider to be Heart Burst From Chest Songs and whether they are for me as well. For example, while there are probably half-a-dozen Arcade Fire songs that are on the cusp of qualifying for me, the one you selected isn't one of them (good song, though).

Hm, for me the only song that I can think of that touches on that description might be Steppin' Out. Which is, admittedly, an odd song for a dude like me to choose, but I suppose that's part of why it's what comes to mind. 'Course I've pointed the song out around here a few times.

Awwwww yaaaas. Pat Benater and Joe Jackson. TT knows what's up.

For myself, off the top of my head (in no small part because of the lyrics):

Also (those keys at the end tho):

Guess I should clarify a little. Cinematic Orchestra can just paint a picture. Like I can see the song play out in my head, feel the swell of the strings match the emotions that the narrator is going through. Makes me think of the things and people in my life that I hold dear, and how I would feel if they ever went away. Itís a heart swell with appreciation and a little sadness. Makes me cry a little, so I donít listen to it often, but when I do itís a cathartic rush.

My 20s created a permanent association between that clenched chest feeling and suicidal ideation, so, hell yeah:

That ascending string chord against the vocal harmony in Komm Susser Tod is one of the most exquisitely beautiful musical moments that I've experienced.

I'd grown tired of Motoko Shinkai's central narrative thrust by the time he found someone else that far more poingantly articulated the feeling he had sought to achieve in his work.

There was a particular time in my life when I came home alone after going out, and I always put myself to sleep with a slate of New Order LP closers and singles. Let no man put asunder that the original Temptation single is the best jam for a lonely bachelor that thinks he has something to offer someone someday.

Hot take: Is She Really Going Out With Him is the absolute high water mark as far as songs about romantic jealousy.

Granted, I've only recently come around on Jackson's greater body of work. Friday is an absolute banger, as is Look Sharp and ISRGOWH. I've started to come around on Steppin Out, but it's going to take me a while to get to It's Different for Girls.

Ana Ng (but especially the gameboy chip cover by Velcro Dan)

Hold Tight London (maybe mute the sound on the left side video)

The Girl in Byakkoya (also mute the left side)

sometimes it just takes a certain chord progression to trigger a hard-to-place sense of nostalgia and loss.

Edit: beaten to the punch!

I saw the title to this thread and this is all I could think of when I thought about the intersection of 'song' and 'burst from chest'.

ELO's "Twilight" is my anthem for the 20-something's nostalgia for a life they never had. Takes me there instantly and powerfully.

But for sheer physical impact, like that swelling in the chest and feeling every hair on my body stand up at once? Gotta go with Wu-Tang Clan "Careful (Click, Click)". Definitely not their best-loved track, loaded with second-stringers Cappadonna and U-God, and RZA is only in it for like three seconds. But I don't care because when that intro melody slows and gets all muddy, I already feel good.

The beat goes immediately subterranean and the samples are so, so slimy and nasty. It feels like walking through a lightless basement hallway full of dripping pipes. "Careful!" Yeah I better be fuckin careful around here.

Then as suddenly as you started there are four muddy chirps telling you it's time to stop - you might not be where you were headed but you better not go any further. And then RZA pipes up to tell you why

Quote:
Wait, hold up, chill, what's that, son?
Damn ***** got fucked, shit, huh?!
Now you're not just unsafe, you're in danger.

Quote:
By his back, watch ***** run
Seven the center of your eight point Sun
The danger is that you could be ambushed or betrayed at any time. Your only hope is to stand fast to your beliefs (in RZA's case, his Five-Percent Nation faith. 7 is the number of God, the Eight Point Sun is the symbol of the FPN.)

Quote:
Hold tight grip on the God-U Now, you best be careful!
This doesn't just call out to U-God, who's about to supply the hook, it's also telling you to keep a grip on yourself (edit: genius informs me that God U Now is how you spell "gun" in the FPN's Supreme Alphabet.) In the Five-Percent Nation, a man himself is divine and Five-Percenters men refer to themselves as Gods. So hold to your beliefs, keep a grip on yourself, and be careful

Quote:
Can't dodge two Self-Hes aimed at your domepiece
Father-U-C-King police!!
But you might still get shot and die. Fuck the police.

By this point I am ready to go

God, yes, ELO basically encapsulates this notion (or at least how I interpret it) perfectly and I can't believe I didn't of it sooner. Like, this genre deeply overlaps with any music where I could imagine someone listening to it would find themselves going 40 over on the highway like

and of course

God U Now is the best fuckin thing

For the man with a gun assumes Godís power over life and death, and by killing someone you send them to God in an instant. RZA doesnít fuck around

likewise Father You See King, although it's easier to work that out from the onomatopoeia (this is originally a line from GZA on Liquid Swords).

also I belatedly realize this is the origin of the jive between Forest Whitaker and RZA in Ghost Dog.

ELO's catalog is full of absolute heart-swellers. "Twilight", though, is too permanently associated with Daicon IV for me, and I'll never be able to separate the two, since that''s what got me into the band in the first place.

I definitely have an affinity for a lot of their album cuts over their singles. I'll always associate "Big Wheels" and "Mister Kingdom" with smoking out of my apartment window and feeling too much as an early-twenty-year-old. But for my money, Sweet is Night is the perfect encapsulation of what this thread is about:

Almost posted Twilight myself. All the love for ELO here is doin' me well

Daicon IV got me into them too. I first heard Twilight just before visiting Japan in 2006. I hunted down Time in a multimedia shop in Tokyo and listened to it for the first time on a cheap CD player in my friend's house in Akishima.
