I don't think there's a very large intersection in that Venn diagram.

So a midsize(?) chain has arrived in my area; Pizza Boli. They make a damn fine pie. Anyone else ever try them?

So KFC here finally decided to bring back Extra Crispy-- or so they say. Decided I'd like to get some while it's here for a limited time for old time's sake.

First, I can't find the stuff online to order for delivery. They advertise the hell out of it, but following the link, Extra Crispy is not an option. So I end up going to get carry-out.

Not a single sign in the store for it -- and while it is limited-time, this is while they're still making sure I know it's "one week left" with their bombardment of FB ads.

Instead, the place is doing "Hot 'n Spicy," which the clerk thought was like Extra Crispy, so I get that, mixed with Original Recipe, just in case.

While the breading was like Extra Crispy in texture and, well, crispness, and it has a nice heat to it, the flavor just isn't there. It's the blandest heat I've ever tasted in my life.

Replacing it -- or at least the supposed "Extra Crispy" they had -- in a few days is this -- a new Double Down which has the two chicken pieces sandwiching a waffle and some Maple aioli sauce.

I'll give it a try, assuming they don't pull the same bait 'n switch BS they just did with it.

For me, if KFC didn't have Extra Crispy then they may as well just not exist at all.

Arby's Gyro Curly Fries.

I picked the wrong Lent to give up deep fried...

And in other crazy news...

Wendy's Dropped a Fire Mixtape Roasting McDonald's

Quote:
It's basically an extension of the brand's Twitter presence, which is to say it's really cruel to competitors like Burger King and McDonald's. One representative line goes thus: "You No. 1? That's a joke / Why your ice cream machine always broke?" The whole mixtape is annotated over at Genius.

I can't tell if I'd want those or not. i keep thinking that the steamed veg and cooked meat might make the fries soggy. That said, I'm impressed someone is keeping the curly fry tradition alive. Let's party like it's 1988!

It's an ersatz carne asada fries platter, and those are the greatest drunk food ever invented by man. I don't know if that conveys to arbys version because arbys be nasty.

the gyro fries concept is totally workable, by the way, with actually good ingredients. There is a food truck around here that replaces the lettuce in its gyros with heavily oregano-seasoned shoestring fries (so: meat, fries, tomato, red onion, tzatziki) and it's fucking dynamite. do the same thing with just a pile of fries and you're golden.

I had a gyro for lunch today. I got it from the cafeteria at work so it was tasty but probably not as amazing as that one. (Is that a thin layer of grease pooled in the styrofoam container?)

Classic Chicken Sandwich is back at McDs. They put some kind of sauce on it that makes it yum yum. And it's on the $3 menu too!

I would try one of those (turns out I really like chicken and waffles) but KFC doesn't really exist around here.

Apparently there's a new burger chain that sells fries made with Bertolli Olive Oil.

I went to a Subway the other day and tried to order my usual meatball sub and the guy at the counter said it had been discontinued. Discontinued?? What the fuck do you people think I even go to Subway for? I mean, it's the cookies, but I need some way to justify buying the cookies and that's what the sandwich was for.
