Default Popularity Contest #19: The Mrs. Clause

Hey guys! It's that time again. The lottery. Now, who's going to get stoned so that our crops will flourish for the sake of our mad society?

Then, after that, we can vote for which Popularity Contest we want to see next!

Here are our choices this time out!

Top 50 Ample Vigour Posts - Ample Vigour
Top 50 Cartoon Characters - Johnny Unusual
Top 50 Detectives - Rascally Badger
Top 50 Dinosaurs - Octopus Prime
Top 50 Fictional Settings - FalseLogic (- 1 Loki)
Top 50 Horror Movies - Adrenaline
Top 50 Mecha - Kirin
Top 50 NPCs in Video Games - WildcatJF
Top 50 Numbers - Bulgakov
Top 50 Robot Masters - Positronic Brain

So some ground rules for any new guys or anyone who forgot: you have a maximum of three votes. No more than that. If you do vote for more, than all of your votes can be null and void, so if you vote for more, then realize you shouldn't have, just ask me and I'll make the proper adjustments. Similarly, if you just want to change your vote or add another if you've voted for less than three, just ask me.

You have 4 days. Make them count.

Dinosaurs and Cartoon Characters were easy votes, but the third could have gone any-which-way so I spun the wheel and wound up with Fictional Settings

You and I voted very similarly, except my third was detectives. Because there are so many good detectives.

This is a good crop. Hard to choose. I ended up going with Robot Masters over Fictional Settings because its been too long since TT argued over bubble lead.

Loki, you voted for four. Three is the max. Please eliminate one vote.

EDIT: I am NOT a crackpot.

Hmm, I'm sure I clicked off Fictional Settings when I decided on Robot Masters.

*puts on deerstalker*

"T'was VBulletin what did the crime!" My three should be Numbers, Detectives, and R'Masters.

Oh god! I'm tied for winning.

Anything I do will be incredibly disappointing after Jbear and Dracula...

No, no, given the amount of work involved in running these things, those check out as the same thing.

I should've asked this in the nom thread maybe - I'm intrigued by NPCs but wondering about the criteria. Like, technically main villains are NPCs, but we already did them, and it seems like the spirit of this would be more "secondary characters". Wildcat, can you clarify what you had in mind?

Yeah, I too am wondering if you aren't counting punchable baddies like Goombas as NPCs or not.

What a good selection this time. I voted for Mecha, Robot Masters and Detectives but I'd be happy with almost all of these.

Same. A lot of good ones this time out. Detectives is one I was thinking about for a while, so I'm glad not only that someone picked it but that it is doing so well. And though I didn't vote for it, I'm way down with fictional settings. I think there are two ways to approach this one: where is simply an interesting setting and where do you wish you could hang out in. Gotham City is a great setting but I sure as Hell wouldn't want to live in that nightmarescape.

My worry with Detectives is that my #1 choice (and I’m sure the #1 choice of others) shares the name with a very different, much more popular detective. So I would forever be living with the mystery of whether or not the vote got split.

It's Sherlock Hound, isn't it?

Yeah, "secondary" is more what I meant. I was thinking more of characters you run into on a quest and/or those that support the player in a non-playable role. So a smattering of samples I have in mind would be like Midna, Navi, Fi and Zelda in Legend of Zelda, Ellie Langford and Nolan Stross in Dead Space 2, Red and Morrie from the original PS2 version of DQ8, Meryl Silverberg in Metal Gear Solid 1/4, etc. Some characters are only secondary in particular games, so I would allow someone like Luigi in for his NPC role in Paper Mario but not for Super Mario Bros. I hope that clears things up a bit!

Also, would Gotham City and the DC Earth-whatever be counted as separate entries?

Early polls have shown weakness in Top 50 Ample Vigour Posts' fringe demographics, but we remain confident. Key counties like Racine and Oshkosh have yet to close the polls. For every Moving Pictures shitposter we lose, we will pick up two or three Talking About Everything white noise posters. We feel great!

Sitting back and reading any list at all will be very nice when that happens in a few weeks!

Meanwhile False may go directly from Thunderdome to Top 50. You didn't need a life anyway, did you?

Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain. Technically that Sherlock Holmes isn't legally distinct from any other adaptation of the character.

I just assumed it was the difference between Detective Conan and Conan the Barbarian. The latter did have to use his wits a fair bit and wore many metaphorical hats.

Also literal hats, if the movie is anything to go by. Surprsing number of hat-wearing montages.

I have voted for it in basically every poll since it first showed. Keep fighting the good fight.

I don't have strong opinions on most of these, but you bet your butt I can come up with 25 of the best numbers.

Yeah, ran out of votes.

I'm not lobbying for changing this one, but it might be interesting to see what happens with one of these if we just let people vote for as many as they want. The tallies would be high but you'd probably get a good idea of the minimum number of participants? OTOH, you wouldn't want people feeling compelled to vote for everything just not not make someone feel left out, so maybe it wouldn't work so well...
