Default M41: Mafia of the Multiverse

Previously...

After their fierce battle with La Capitán that spanned time and space, our heroes were ready for a little downtime. But Baron Blade had other plans -- he's up to his old tricks again. Can the Sentinels stop Baron Blade from activating his TerraLunar Impulsion Beam, or should we start investing in lunar real estate?

Baron Blade plays Devious Disruption!

Default This is the last digimon pic I will ever post.

This is where I would normally post a pokemon picture.

But! The old meta is dead. So long live the new meta!

(the new meta is me posting digimon)

((OMG! These things look so fucking dumb))

Alright, everyone time to check in!

We've got ~47 hours, based on when Mogri put up the post

So uh...is this sentinels of the multiverse thing a comic book? I have no idea.

Let me tell you about the Sentinels of the Multiverse!

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a co-op card game. Each player has a hero deck, and are playing to defeat a villain deck, while dealing with additional complications from an environment deck. The villain and environment decks are "automatic", in that you don't need to make any decisions for them. There's a lot of technical language and complicated card interaction, so a lot of people prefer to play using the excellent digital app. Thematically, the game is about heroes and villains from a completely fictional line of comic books; quotes "from the comics" appear on the bottom of all cards. Baron Blade is the "starter" villain; he's got a few tricks that are overall pretty easy to bypass, including his Mobile Defense Platform (which makes him invincible until it's killed), mobs of goons, and he wins the game automatically if his trash gets too large.

I really do think that lynching someone who's not participating is a good day 1 move, even apart from any notion of the meta-game. Mafia want to attract as little notice as possible, and not posting or posting very little is a fantastic way to do that, as people are reluctant to lynch someone they think is busy or shy. And once we've let someone skate through on day 1, it gets harder and harder to justify not letting them continue to skate.

But Trar's still got some time to speak up, so... No need to rush things yet.

My position is and always has been to lynch the suspicious people. Sometimes the talkers seem trustworthy and so the quieter ones are more suspicious, and sometimes it's the other way around. But you can't afford to just lynch the quiet people no matter what, or you're almost guaranteed to lose. Not all the quiet people will be mafia; look at all our history here for proof of that.

A board game I think? I'm okay with lynching silent people when its the only option. But I don't know how effective it ever was at finding mafia.

I've never been a big fan of "lynch the quietest person", myself. Like, as circumstantial evidence to support a case, sure, but it's hardly decisive enough to warrant a vote on its own.

For that to happen, I'd have had to open the thread before sending out roles. That, sir, is a bridge too far.

Gerad and Egar both posted in reaction to Rufferto's calling turtle town for agreeing with him (false also alluded to it). I actually think it makes Rufferto more likely town.

I don't know that I necessarily find him suspicious for it, just trying to tease out his reasoning. This seems like a particularly information-light D1 even as D1s go.

No votes will mean no lynch, but hey, it could be worse.

21.5 hours remain.

interesting... I don't remember ever being in a game with a no lynch option. I presume its a bad thing because you can't catch mafia if you don't take a shot and you're giving them a free turn. On the other hand, if you kick out a town player, you're helping the mafia toward a win so, i can see the allure, but I'm guessing its still a sub-par option.

Either way, Mogri said no votes equals no lynch and orchestrating that seems unlikely. I presume even one vote would result in a lynch.

my vote's on Taeryn.

I don't have anything better to go on at the moment. Everyone else: thoughts? Any suspicions?

If you all still want to go the other route and kill the quiet players, we can also lynch Trar, who still hasn't posted today, but I don't think it's going to give us much, if anything.

I do, actually, want to go the other way.

I accuse Trar.

If you're not posting or even voting, you're not giving anyone any data. You're keeping yourself in the same state as you were at the start of the first day, which does nothing to help us find the mafia.

I vote for Trar

As I previously stated, generally its better to go after someone who we think is mafia, but at this point, I'm not suspicious of literally anyone in the game... and given the other votes, I think that's a common feeling. So at that point, we're down to random luck or at least eliminating a player early that isn't going to give us any info to work from later.

I vote Trar

as well. My thoughts are the same as Taeryn's; no one looks particularly suspicious, and it's better to go for a cipher than someone who has a track record of not looking suspicious.

As I said previously Trar knows that the game is going on because I told him about it on IRC.

As for suspicions of people now there isn't a lot to go on, and normally, this is where I accuse Gerad but right now he isn't setting off my mafia sense.

Weird, huh?

Dtsund has been very quiet. I can't remember if that is normal of him or not? Doesn't matter I like more participation than he is currently giving.

I don't know what is going on with Taeryn and Rufferto. I don't know if it matters.

A turtledoesbite and Johnny Unusual have totally slipped off my radar.

If I had to pick someone as a top suspect after the person I have voted for. It would have to be

Turtle/Johnny as both of them have been active but completely forgettable. Which is a perfect place for Mafia to be.
