I remember the original casting call for this show wanted Jughead to be a deaf emo kid and Betty to have an Adderall addiction, so they might have actually toned it down from the initial pitch.

...Which is a shame! Because I actually really, really like when Archie gets weirdly serious. Afterlife with Archie is the only good zombie series in the world because it's the only zombie thing where the characters affected have such a strong and familiar history in happier times.

The writer of Afterlife with Archie, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is the showrunner for Riverdale, so there should be similarities.

Apparently, a network note is responsible for one of the SaBs in Switched at Birth being deaf. The show was all the better for it. (Apparently it went off the rails as these things do. I only watched 1.5 seasons)

Teen shows: watch them for 1 season! They're fine that way.

"A KID IS DEAD ARCHIE" was hilarious, and if I hadn't had forewarning I probably would have snorted my drink up my nose.

Archie is the worst part of the whole thing. He looks too over the top even for "Edgy Riverdale," and like he would be more at home in a TV version of Cruel Intentions (the 1999 version.)

I have to know - will Jon Bernthal guest star in any episodes?

Works of fiction do not move forward in a 1:1 relationship with real time, and a number of the high schoolers in that ad already appear to be in their late 20s and early 30s, so it's not like 4 years will suddenly break the pre-established hyperrealism of "Archie, but if it it was sexy Twin Peaks."

The first five seasons of Grey's Anatomy took place w/in approximately six months and later seasons began inserting multi-year gaps into episodes. Meredith Grey has a sister five years younger than her played by someone ~13 years younger than Ellen Pompeo. (It's a fine show) (all shows are fine)

I'm pumped for Dark Archie. You have a character flaw if you are not.

Man, how great would a Pushing Daisies-style Archie show be? Keep all the murder and sex but surround it with a thick layer of camp. Although maybe the "edginess" will be so over the top that the effect will be the same.

When will we get an adaptation of the unsettling Christian Archie comics, which were my only exposure to the character as a child?

Only if they include Big Ethel's head trip.

edit:
we can only pray that these red lines of evidence string at connecting archie to all the people that get fucked

This is already better than what I heard about a while ago.

I'm more annoyed that they're putting ugly ad banners for the show across the top of the covers of all their books -- including Sonic.

As for live-action Archie, it's already been done and done better than this. It was called "Saved by the Bell."

I can only hope that they strictly adhere to Jughead being canonically ace.

Thirded, so long as the school faculty gains super powers and becomes a crime-fighting team while Hog Dog gets into all sorts of shenanigans in his tricked-out doghouse.

Oh! And one season needs to have them racing R.C. cars cross-country.

The series epilogue should take place in the year 3000.

Or how about 2099? Or will that be the next to last season?

You've got to lay the ground work for the crossover episode, duh.

I know that "Archie Meets The Punisher" is like the go-to stupid Archie thing, but Archie has gotten so much weirder since then. I have a copy of this in my comic box somewhere:

Well, there was also Archie vs. The Punisher. Apparently Archie had a serial killer doppleganger that the Punisher followed to Riverdale to kill. That was a little slice of weirdness!

THAT'S MATURITY RIGHT THERE.
Not to ruin your perfect joke, but isn't Jughead's real name something ridiculous like Forswythe (something something) Jones? "Jughead" might be the least ridiculous of all their options.

Anyway, I, too, am oddly intrigued by the premise of "What if Archie was also Twin Peaks?"

The first episode is apparently titled "The River's Edge." Hell yes.

I think my favorite moment in that comic is the revelation that Dilton has a suit of Iron Man-esque armor that looks like Archie.

With the explanation that "Everything in this stupid town is about Archie."

Not sure if you guys actually know or not, but I'm referencing something that really happened:

(All of it, actually.)

Ugh, I've had enough Archie/Sabrina and Sonic crossovers, thanks.

Oh, and I just realized I forgot to mention...

They kinda did this before. Does this make Riverdale a prequel?
