The large Beagle Boy in that shirt got a very big laugh out of me.

I really, really love Ma's pragmatism vs Big Time's over-enthusiasm.

So many good lines!

"You buying dis?"
*head shake*
*snap*

"How much of this is a test and how much is us just doing your work?!"
"About fifty-perceeent..."

"Look, they're all mad as loons and if ye fire them, they're definitely going to seek revenge."
"Er... All in favor of keeping the bin and all it inhabitants far away from our offices?"
"AYE!"

I remember being worried they'd over-correct with Webby and make her a bit too competent, but instead they made her a homeschooled weirdo, which delights me, as I am a homeschooled weirdo.

I loved the character moments, too. How Webby just assumes she's not welcome to go to Funso. How Louie - the evil triplet - is the only one who raises a fuss and the only one to actually get mad at her. How the boys keep reassuring Webby that they're still her friend even after she screws up.

I'm a little sad that Burger is completely different, but I guess the "duhhhh, hey boss" bit isn't as much a thing in cartoons anymore. They kind of rolled his doofiness into Bigtime, though, which works.

Pretty decent episode this evening, though it could have used more (or, any) Scrooge. Might be a bit early to feature an episode entirely on the kids, but eh, it also had the Beagle Boys and Character Actress Margo Martindale so it's all good.

It all went pretty predictably, right until the very end, when all of a sudden...

Oh hi Aunt Magica.

That episode was kind of meh except for the Beagle Boys being gangs from The Warriors, which was wonderful, and of course the Magica tease. Wonder how many episodes it will take to turn Lena against her aunt using the power of friendship.

So wait... if she's Magica's niece, does that make that crow, from the TV series, her father?

Is there a way for us poor fools without cable to watch this series?

I just bought the season from Amazon. It's worth it.

Oh, good call. Magica claimed the number one dime could change Poe back to normal, which would be pretty good motivation for Lena to do what she's doing.

Y'know, I thought it would be a little bit before we saw Lena and Shadow Magica again, but nope, that thread continues immediately.

We even get to hear Magica's new voice a bit and, I'm not sold on it yet. It has none of the bombast and, honestly, campiness of June Foray's performance. That could just be chalked up to her being some kind of wispy shadow spirit right now, but if if this is an indication of how she's normally going to sound whenever she actually shows up then I'd say she's one character that did not make the transition to the new show very well.

Huey seems the weakest character of the main cast so far. Hopefully they give him more to do.

Magica's new voice is a side-effect of modern cartoons using less overwrought accents. Hopefully she's still got an overwrought personality. I'm kind of fine with it, there's no replacing June Foray.

Also, man, the show has been pretty light on Scrooge since the pilot. I like Webby a lot but she's hogging his spotlight.

Kids like to watch kids, makes sense to at least lead with webby centered episodes, but hopefully they get back to Scrooge at some point.

Reading up on Frank Angones's Tumblr, it looks like the episodes are being aired slightly out of order, with one episode pulled forward for Halloween and one pushed back for Christmas. It doesn't affect the plotting at all but it did alter the pacing in a way they didn't intend. So instead of getting a Scrooge episode and then a kid episode and then Scrooge again, they're clumped together.

So it's just a quirk of programming and I'm complaining for no good reason.

Realizing Tate is voicing Magica has me so eager to see Scrooge face off with her.

...... Oh. Oh my.

Well, I'll give the current performance the benefit of the doubt, and await the moment when we see it for real.

Good episode. I do hope we get an actual Launchpad having a dumb adventure B-plot at some point, though.

I liked how the show handled Gladstone as a selfish ass, and that the nephews eventually saw him as such. And I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure Launchpad's adventure was a reference to Lone Wolf & Cub?

That was a perfect episode of Ducktales. They nailed Gladstone.

I haven't seen the episode, but I read that Gladstone was voiced by Paul F. Tompkins?

Good casting, good casting.

I can't help but wonder if Lena might be some sort of rebooted Gosalyn.

So when most of the new cast was announced I was intrigued by Mark Beaks, since he's an antagonist that's entire new for the 2017 show.

From what I've seen of him so far, though, I'm uh, I'm fine if they keep his appearances limited. They kinda leaned hard into obnoxious millennial techie stereotypes for him, and that's pretty much all there is to him. Maybe future episodes might develop him into a more interesting antagonist, but if all he's gonna be is 'pew pew pew!'-ing and incomprehensible social media jargon then that's just a shame.

Though I did like Glomgold and Scrooge's scheming on bringing Beaks down, until Scrooge came to his senses. "I can't believe I wasted all this time hating someone. Who am I? You?"

Yeah, I liked the whole Tech Fake Billionaire/Evil Steve Jobs bit, but the fewer appearances Beaks makes, the better.

He's ABSOLUTELY the Luthor to Gizmoduck's Supes, though.

I think AV Club said it best.

"There is a brief moment where we get a hint of the “real” Beaks. When Dewey brings him his 2:15 coffee at 2:14, Beaks unleashes a brewing anger that hints at his true character. “I didn’t become an almost-billionaire by having coffee at random times of the day like some... commoner. There’s an order to things. My order! And I—” he monologues before Huey arrives with the correct coffee at the correct time. That’s the Beaks we need to see–the unchecked, exaggerated rage of an animated villain-leader of a global tech company–and we need way more than three seconds of that. The idea of an apathetic rich dude scheming nefarious plots just for followers and likes is better on paper than in action. Let’s see that fury."

That said, I'll take a middling Duck Tales episode over most offerings.

One day, I'll understand modern Disney's fixation with burritos. At least it netted us a very Tenth Doctor revolution speech from Mr. McD.

I was a little weirded out by Louie submitting himself to the mummy as its servant to save his feathers, though, and it NOT being part of a trick.
