Default Popularity Contest Poll #17: The Final Conflict

Alright, it is time to vote for the next topic for the very next Popularity Contest.

Below are the topics and the hosts. If anything changes I'll edit it. That includes if you want to re-allocate votes. I'll get to that down below.

Top 50 Mario Characters & Enemies - Loki (-1 Bunk Moreland)
Top 50 Mecha - Kirin
Top 50 Movies of the 1900-30's - Johnny Unusual
Top 50 Numbers - Bulgakov
Top 50 Pop Culture Cars - ThornGhost (-1 Bunk Moreland)
Top 50 Star Trek Episodes - Red Hedgehog
Top 50 Toys and Toylines - Dracula
Top 50 Videogame Soundtracks - Positronic Brain (+1 Issun)

OK, so you have three votes. No more than that (you can vote fewer if you want). If you vote more and don't drop them before the poll ends, those votes are null and void. You can change your votes at anytime by PMing me or posting here.

Not a rule but my advice is "only vote for things you plan on participating in". It's nice you want to support an idea even if you don't know enough about that topic to participate in it but at the same time, it's good to have a representative number so that someone isn't disappointed by a low turnout.

Am I forgetting anything? OK, then, time to rock the vote or die!

I still need to bone up one that subject. I'm on season two of The Next Generation and on episode 16 of the original series.

Yeah, unfortunately I can't really vote for it in good conscience because I just don't know enough about individual ST episodes to vote meaningfully. This sort of situation almost makes me wonder if some polls on very narrow/specific topics would be better off existing as spin-offs of their main topic threads in other sub-forums rather than as an official Top-50 entry. My mecha suggestion may be in this category as well! But OTOH I don't want to undercut the format or spread people too thin. I dunno.

It's so frustrating to see Star Trek continue to come in second place.

Man, this series had a great cast. Shigeru Miyamoto got his with so many copyright lawsuits.

Frankly, I like most of the topics this round. Here are my thoughts.
Top 50 Mario Characters & Enemies - Mario has a great cast. I'm probably
going to be pretty 80's/90's centric, as I haven't had a Nintendo system since the Wii and even then the only mario game I played is Galaxy.

Top 50 Mecha - Good, but I didn't vote for it this time around.

Top 50 Movies of the 1900-30's - Well, this one is mine, so I'm obviously for it. I'd really like to do it, but I understand why it wouldn't win. Despite covering four decades of film, many people haven't seen/remembered enough notable films from that era compared to more latter day films. Frankly, I'd be happy to see a list for most decades, but I thought it would be fun to start with early film.

Top 50 Numbers - Could be fun, I suppose, but I can't really get excited enough about numbers to be bothered to actually vote for it. I mean, I kind of like that feeling of stress when having to decide which thing I like better, and I'll be lacking such emotional investments with numbers. With phonics, however....

Top 50 Pop Culture Cars - I'm not a car guy, but I am a fictional car guy.
Top 50 Star Trek Episodes - As I said, great topic, but I really need to bone up on this one.

Top 50 Toys and Toylines - Another good topic. It's not seasonal, but I kind of want to see this one happen around Christmas times.

Top 50 Videogame Soundtracks - Also good. Not much to add there. Except, we really haven't done a music topic yet.

Honestly after its showing last time I thought it had a pretty good shot. Still, it's only day one of four, so who knows what'll happen in the interim.

From that list I'm only really interesting in Videogame Sountracks.

I don't really play Mario games, Mecha doesn't interest me, I only ever watch movies made after 1980, I can't even name one car brand, I never watched Star Trek and I'm too old for toys, unless they include board games and P&P (then that would be interesting).

You don't stop playing with toys when you grow old, you grow old when you stop playing with toys!

For the record that topic isn't about car brands, it's about fictional cars. You could imagine the list might include things like the Back to the Future time machine, Knight Rider or cars from Twisted Metal.

I wish there was a way to consolidate all three available votes into a single choice.

I'd wager that the Top 10 would be at least 50% batmobiles.

(and The Black Beauty would not make Top 50 because life is unfair)

It's what it sounds like, a list of TT's top 50 numbers. I am still debating whether or not to allow imaginary numbers on the list, but I would definitely consider all natural, whole, rational, and irrational numbers at this time.

Man, now you guys are just about talking me into the cars one... I'd change my vote, but, uh, I don't think it'd make a difference this time around so it's probably not worth bothering Johnny to do it.

I wonder if fictional vehicles in general would garner more votes next time. Of course that's also leaning more towards overlap with mecha, depending on how you define each of them.

I will never have the free time to do one of these lists, so here is how I would have handled posting top sports contests:

Day 1: The top 50 list in its entirety.
Day whatever to end: Each day post an entry that got one and only one vote, along with discussion from the voter about what made it their choice.
