Default Hey Everybody Everybody, let's talk about Homestar Runner!

Oh man flash cartoons.

So the unexpected April Fool's update to the Homestar Runner site yesterday got me on a bit of a nostalgia trip as I re-watched some of the old cartoons and jank. So I thoughts to myself I thoughts "Hey, is there even a Homestar Runner thread on the forum?" and then I didn't even bother searching and just made this one.

It's kind of sad to think the April Fool's update yesterday might be the last time we see Homestar and Strongbad together. A hopeful part of me wants to believe that the Chaps Bros will still make cartoons now and then as their schedule allows, but the 3+ year hiatus suggests that they just don't have time for it anymore. Which is cool, I'm not about to demand that someone keep providing me with free entertainment, especially since the site used to have regular weekly updates and never relied on ads. If Homestar and friends have had their run, at least it was a good one.

But hey, this thread isn't about a possible bleak, Homestar-less future, it's about reminiscing about the old series and endlessly parroting off your favorite lines!

I was first introduced to Homestar Runner way back in the early-aughts when the Trogdor sb_email was linked. (It wasn't even linked because of Trogdor itself, but rather it was a discussion on hidden easter eggs in flash videos and the fact that you could click on the 'G' scratched onto the table by Strong Mad and make Homsar appear in the next scene) From there I watched pretty much everything the site had to offer (easy task then, not so much now) and kept up with the site every week.

The Strong Bad Emails, Halloween Cartoons, and Teen Girl Squad remain my favorite parts of the site.

I also really dug that Stinkoman Mega Man-em-up flash game that, sadly, never got finished. There was probably only one more stage to go, but we never did get that final battle against anime Coach Z.

So hows about alls of you? What do you miss about Homestar Runner? What were your favorite cartoons? Which of Strong Bad's computers was the best? Why can't you get ye flask?

Basically anything the Cheat does is gold. Also, everything on the site. Sickly Sam is kinda funny.

Did any of you play the Wii games?

I absolutely love Homestar Runner. It's one of the greatest humor websites to ever exist and really deserves to be permanently archived in some way in the event that the creators should ever let the hosting slip. It's just really well-written character driven humor, with lots of cute and funny wordplay and the ability to make jokes that are family friendly while delightfully straddling that line of naughtiness that all the best family-friendly humor achieves.

There was also this show called 'Aquabats'. Never heard of it before, but apparently there was an episode where there was this guy named 'Carl' who was, essentially, Strong Bad. Wrestle Mask and everything.

Seriously.

I was JUST ABOUT to post that Aquabats episode. Basically the Chaps are doing kid's TV now, which is perfect.

Coach Z is one of my favorite characters of all time, any media. "I think I'm gonna puke my pants!"

"Hey, Strong Mad! What's - what's my favorite movie?"

"GARBLEDINA!"

"Fact 2: Garbledina."

Never heard of the show or the 90's ska band of the same name on which the show was based?

Because if you've never heard of the band...

Oh man, yesterday's short: Bold Eagle - Our National Bold. It was like no time had passed at all. I think that's what really sucks: if they started making them again, new HR cartoons would be just as good.

Strongbads cool game for attractive people or the flash games that they optimized for the Wii browser? Either way, yes, yes I have.

Stinkoman is likely my favorite thing to come out of the site. "ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A CHALLLLLLLEEEENNNNGGGEEEE!!!!!!!"

I still like to drink around with that "Make your own Stinko" comic creator thingy they put up, we should post a few for giggles.

I used to eagerly await every new sbemail update. There are stupid little verbal tics that have become so ingrained in my social group's personal pidgin that I hardly even consider they originated in Homestar Runner any more.

I was always nervous about how good HR was. They were so funny, so prolific that I always expected them to suddenly disappear from the internet in a fit of creative madness. Somewhere on an old computer of mine are hundreds of saved .swf files of the cartoons that I was archiving for just that reason.

I guess if I have a single, tiny critique of the site it was the increasing importance and number of the hidden gags in the 'toons that you found by clicking. I was OK with the occasional one, especially on the end screen, but eventually I became a bit frustrated by all the clicking I'd have to do during the cartoon to find all the goodies. It got to a point where there were substantial amounts of content that you had to frantically click around for. Still, it was worth it to find those bits wasn't it? Can't complain too much.

I met the Bros. Chaps at Dragon Con at the height of HR's popularity. They were immensely charming, invited me behind the booth to take pictures and just generally seemed to be funny and fun guys that shared the same head space.

I have a niece named Elizabeth that I've called "Elizagerth" for most of her life. She has no idea why.

I still say "Excardon Me" and "No proballo" when excusing myself or giving an affirmative prediction.

That's why the wiki was indispensable.

I'm still playing the number one summer jam, Fhqwhgads.

Like Futurama there are a ton of quotes and junk that have just worked their way into my vernacular. Felix was a bee for Halloween one year. You know, the bee, from nature.

Off the top of my head, no guarantee of accuracy:

Hey gals, how you lookin'?
Soooo good!
Ooookay! I mean soooo good!

Brian? I hope that's short for... Brianrietta...

Going through the sbemails recently, one thing that struck me was how great the songs were - see especially "Montage" and "Theme Song". They'd have lyrics that were practically gibberish, yet were still extremely credible as the things they were parodies of.

You and me, babe, living for dreams
Lifing for love
Drinking for free
Sitting on top of an old robot
Sharing and caring it out
The memory's scrubbing you down

I'd never seen any of the Aquabats Super Show before either. It's amazing that Carl is just exactly Strong Bad. If that character showed up at a concert I would lose my mind.

Homestar thoughts:

"This is mah funneh voiiiiice!" still slays me.
Also: "Looks like I'm gonna have to jump!"

I used to have this song on my pre-iPod device:

And is there anything more the stuff of nightmares than Marshie?

Has this been said, yet? It came out the day before April Fools, so the internet is having something of a Homestrenaissance

Really is magical how they introduced new characters, isn't it?

Also, have an hour's worth of different Fhqwhgads remixes.

"Oh. Watch out, The Cheat. There is a statue of a wheelchair outside the field of play. Several feet away. Not moving at all. Just, statuing. On top of that, the hole is about one foot from the tee. Isn't the fun almost too much to taaaaaake?"
