Me too. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, becoming a dad is the best thing to happen to both Batman and Superman in years.

If I was scared about one of them not being a father anymore, it would Superman, what with Bendis taking over and promising big changes. I don't see the guys in charge of Batman changing up a successful dynamic, but DC can't help itself but fiddle with Superman.

DC is also ending Super Sons, which is a goddamned crime because that is one of the best books they are publishing that is not written by Tom King. The annual was a Super-Pets story! It is a delight. Damian spends all of his time keeping Superboy out of the Teen Titans because he isn't a teenager.

Nah. I've been reading the trades and it's still pretty prime Priest (albeit working in his Unknown Soldier/Xero cynical mode; it's kind of a supervillain King Lear where the lead and his kids struggle against their character flaws and for the most part fail). I imagine this arc is happening because Priest is in part writing Slade as a parody of Batman, in that he's a martial artist and master planner that seemingly compulsively surrounds himself with offspring/protégés. I'm enjoying Priest on the book, but I'm out as soon as he is.

That said, he is being a little self-indulgent in that he's using Dr Villain from his Steel run, and another recurring character is a somewhat mean-spirited take on Black Panther as African warlord.

To be frank, I don't think Slade Wilson is Talia's type.

James Robinson's output has always been ... variable. Right now it is varying downward. I have found his recent work on Wonder Woman to be pretty bad. Not Cry for Justice bad, but it is closer to that bad than it is to being as good as Star Man, or even The Shade mini.

I pull really hard for DC, but it's times like this where you just want to throw up your hands and wish that they burned to the ground. I guess it would be a different story if Tomasi and Jimenez wanted to do something else, but there's no way that's the case.

Maybe he... y'know what? I don't even want to say it, but it's not the sort of thing I feel they'd shy away from these days.

(faintly, from the back of the crowd) Wasn't the whole point of the League of Shadows being that they're all a bunch of idealists AND assassins?

Super Sons is on its way out, but there will be a Super Sons/Dynomutt one-shot coming with the next round of Hanna-Barbera crossovers.

If anyone one of this new batch of crossovers approaches Batman/Elmer Fudd we are in for a treat. I got real excited for Flash/Speed Buggy for a second until I saw it was by Scott Lobdell and Brett Booth. Black Lightning/Hong Kong Phooey sounds pretty great.

It's still ongoing. Colin Spacetwinks (gay internet furry) wrote a critical review in progress as of issue #2. Very briefly (it's a long review), he argues that it's ambitious but doesn't do a good job handling its themes, and that the house style art is not very good (and could stand to learn more from prominent furry artists). Recent issues (after this review) haven't changed his mind.

Mainstream comics press has been much more positive.

I've only read the first two issues, but the only part of that review I agree with its that the figure work in the art tend to be stiff.

It isn't quite on the level of The Flintstones, but Snagglepuss is really good so far.

First the Punisher, now Batman. What is it with Archie drawing psychotic vigilantes to himself?

I'd read an Archie/Batman comic if someone slavishly drew the Adam West batsuit like that in a Dan DeCarlo/Harry Lucey style. Unfortunately it looks like its the crappy 'modern' style they forced Dan Parent into.

(my fave Archie artist is Samm Schwartz though)

Default DC Comics is bad at their job

Frank Miller to pen young adult graphic novel in Dark Knight Returns setting

Quote:
The book announced today will be Miller’s first foray into writing for a young audience. The new book will star Carrie Kelley, who first appeared in in 1986’s The Dark Knight Returns (written and illustrated by Miller), in which she became Robin.

Wow, that is unexpected.

I have to admit that while my interest in the current output of Frank Miller is low to nonexistent, I am intrigued by this. I can't imagine a project less suited to Frank Miller than this. Does he tone down the Miller-ness and create something that the target audience might actually like? Does he do the opposite and just make more of the junk he's made for the last two decades?
