Default Best Christmas Music Forever Santadome: Nomination Thread

The holidays are upon us, and what better way to celebrate than to make joyful noises battle against each other to the bloody death?

So grab some gingerbread and a cup of hot gluhwein, put on your Santa cap, and come up with between One (1) and Four (4) Six (6) Christmas songs. Depending on the number of nominations, we'll have 64, 96 or 128. Nominations will close at midnight when November becomes December, and the dome will begin on the evening of Saturday, December 1.

Now, what qualifies as Christmas/Holiday music? Anything that has to do with the holiday, as well as standards associated with the holiday. They can be songs written for Christmas, songs from Christmas movies (as long as it has something to do with Christmas, sorry Mr. Brightside as featured in The Holiday), or even instrumental tracks from Christmas movies! So if there's a particular piece you like from It's A Wonderful life, Gremlins, Die Hard or, for some inscrutable reason, Jim Carrey's How The Grinch Stole Christmas, then nominate it! Even game music is welcome. It has to be from a Christmas part of the game, though. Even though Kyaro Town's theme from Suikoden II sounds Christmasy, it doesn't count.

Different recordings of the same song are also welcome, though if we have too many versions of Rudolph or Jingle Bells or whatever, those will be the first to go come the culling.

Hanukkah, Kwanza and Festivus songs are also welcome!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Now, nominate away!

Edit:

I have SCOURED youtube looking for the best possible recordings of these four classical christmas songs. My nominations are VERY SPECIFICALLY for the versions I'm putting in this post. I will not accept any substitutes. I don't care if someone else nominates The First Noel, I'm nominating THIS VERSION.

#1 The First Noel

#2 The Little Drummer Boy

#3 Oh Come All Ye Faithful

#4 What child is this.

I mean, yeah, obviously there's only one recording of the first noel that's worth listening to, sure. But do you have any idea how many versions of The Little Drummer Boy I listened to before deciding I would rep the above one? And you have NO IDEA how many versions of What Child Is This are floating around on youtube. Believe me, I did you all a favor.

Some strong contenders already. Here's mine. Let's get it to 128!

Willie Nelson - Pretty Paper

Boney M. - Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord

(I get if I'm the only one who cares for this one but I got a some nostalgia for this one)

Spinal Tap - Christmas With the Devil

(Tried to go with the live version, but I like this version more.)

The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping

Snowball Park - Super Mario World 3D

Run DMC - Christmas in Hollis

1. Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters - Mele Kalikimaka
2. The Norman Luboff Choir - Hardrock, Coco and Joe
3. Norma Zimmer and The Norman Luboff Choir - Suzy Snowflake
4. Elmo & Patsy - Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

edit2:
5.Thurl Ravenscroft* - You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch (I can't believe nobody had grabbed this one yet.)
6. Buster Poindexter - 'Zat You Santa Claus

*AKA the former voice of Tony the Tiger

Are songs that aren't about the holiday but about the season allowed?
edit: got my answer and changed my choices

Also: Darn, Sarge took one of my alternate choices.

edit3:
Issun, here's the actual ranking of all of my choices:
1. Thurl Ravenscroft - You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch
2. Norma Zimmer and The Norman Luboff Choir - Suzy Snowflake
3. The Norman Luboff Choir - Hardrock, Coco and Joe
4. Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters - Mele Kalikimaka
5. Buster Poindexter - 'Zat You Santa Claus
6. Elmo & Patsy - Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
In case you need to know that to make some (random) cuts.

For whatever reason this Christmas in Vienna album was the thing we played every Christmas Eve. I don't really get why Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Diana Ross did an album together but sure why not: Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful)

Evergreen - MC Chris (yeah, this probably isn't going far on this forum but this became our lab anthem for Christmas in grad school for who knows what reason so it makes me happy)

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Mannheim Steamroller. First one of theirs I ever heard and it was such a new sound to me.

Finally, I'm going to go with Carol of the Final Fantasy Belles. I have no idea how I got this track and the mp3 I had was misnamed so I had to dig a bit to find a video, but I love it. I can play it at Christmas at a family gathering and non-gamers like it and gamers smile when they recognize the themes.

The night Santa Went----

Dang your eyes, Issun.

1) Christmas at Ground Zero
2) The Mummer's Song
3) Kraid, Rest Ye Merry Mother Brain
4) We Wish You A Merry Faxanadu

I wanted to use at least one Newfie Christmas song for personal nostalgia sake, and there's no more iconic than the Mummer's Song, though without the nostalgia factor it might not make it too far!

And I've always loved the 8-Bit Jesus songs, hardest thing here was picking which one to use, I had to settle on two.

EDIT: Two more then!

5) Super Smash Bros Brawl - Snowman
6) Dragon Ball Z Abridged - Popo the Genie

Should we assume you are nominating all four songs?

Yes, or nominate it as a whole, whichever works better. Though it's made up of individual carols it really plays as one long suite.

EDIT: Also man, no one has nominated anything off of Sufjan Steven's Christmas Album yet? Somebody throw up Sister Winter at least!

Driving Under Stars by Marika Hackman

Edit: I'm also going to nominate another Sufjan song. While technically not a Christmas song, it appears on one of his Christmas albums, and is one of my favorite interpretations of my favorite hymn:

Come Thou Fount by Sufjan Stevens

Second edit: How could I forget Oi to the World!? I'll also include a couple of other punk/ska holiday songs for nostalgia purposes:

Oi to the World by the Vandals

12/25 by U.S. Bombs

Jump Through the Hoops by The Mighty Mighty BossTones

Third Edit: Christmas Song by Phoebe Bridgers

I can't speak for Issun but links are always appreciated and I think it would be better if you included all of said noms in your first post, for ease of consolidation.

You said we could do five or six recommendations each, so I added a sixth addition to my original post. A song that just got released today!

Also, I'm torn on the fact that this Santadome doesn't have Fairytale of New York in it. On the one hand, I love 99% of that song. On the other hand, the 1% I don't love is an unfortunate (and vile) slur.

YES IT'S A CHRISTMAS SONG.

IT'S GOT BELLS AND SINGS ABOUT "THE HOLIDAYS" AND PRESENTS UNDER THE TREE AND SHIT.
