Hope you enjoy it, muteKi!

Ample, the only thing I found with that name is a Steven Seagal(?!) song? Is there a music video too?

Yes, from Seagal's little-known reggae/dancehall LP "Songs from the Crystal Cave." Irony twitter recently gave it a second life. Or, like, first and a half or so. Sadly there is no official video that I know of.

Like Randy Savage's "Be a Man" it is too powerful for added video. People would die.

it is telling that the Macho Man did not live long beyond his final great achievement.

We've done music videos before and they can be devastating. Perhaps a "fan" has made one?

Once you have reached the peak, where else can you go?

Now I am imagining Macho Man doing a dramatic reading of "Ozymandias".

...

OzyMachoMandias.

I am no longer at a point in my life where I'd cringe and protest at the idea of watching an NSYNC music video, but watching one on repeat isn't really something I would ever choose to do. (Apart from starting a podcast where we do that exact thing, but never you mind that.)

It's Bye Bye Bye this week.

I think it is somewhat telling about my life that when I went to download the OS/2 Warp logo for this episode's news post, I realized that I already had it on my computer. It's a warped world.

Oops, late on posting this here! Anyway, here's S2E10, where we watch the original Chuck Wagon dog food commercial and are wrong about video games but somehow right about Renaissance-era Medici equestrian statues.

As we are once again (and ever shall be) on the cusp of new Star Wars, we take a look at particular marketing eddy of the first new Star Wars for the millennial generation: The Phantom Menace.

Hey guys remember when the Taco Bell dog, Colonel Sanders and a Pizza Hut delivery girl in a belly shirt took on the Battle Droid army on Naboo? You don't? Well I didn't either until I saw this commercial. And I still kind of wish I didn't.

Listen, OK, there's more of this. More Video Death Loop. Remember that Final Fantasy III commercial produced for the US with a sassy claymation stop-motion Mog as a New York casting agent who murders his clients? No? Good. That's for the best. We watched it a LOT

Did you ever go to a Regal Cinemas in the 90s? If so there's a good chance you've seen this week's video yourself - it's Regal's old pre-movie CG roller coaster that was embedded into the heads of movie fans everywhere. We go deep into what it shows us about the metaphysical AND disgusting tales from when I was slinging popcorn at a Regal during my very first job while this video was new.

Listen I don't know if you're into ice cream or whatever but I am and this Carvel commercial only exacerbated things. I'm not sure if this commercial honestly uses hypnotic suggestion but I'm also not 100% that it doesn't.

Carvel! carvel

If any of you are enjoying Video Death Loop, we'd appreciate it if you took our survey. It would really help us identify what people like and respond to about the show. It only takes a minute and we'd be like...super grateful.

Video Death Loop survey!

Do you ever think you know something, and then when it comes down to talking about it, you just don't know anything at all? That was my exact realization when we started watching the ThunderCats opening. Sure, I know ThunderCats is a thing, but beyond that my mind is a blank on the subject.

That's pretty much where this next episode starts.

3. I saw the compilation you mentioned, and this stuff is practically on the same level as Characters from Yonder Website, which now that I think about it actually details the creation story of cookiepuss

Regarding Cookiepuss, I don't think either John or I have spent a lot of time in areas that have Carvels, so a lot of their line is a mystery to me, including Cookiepuss. I'm honestly not sure how I know about Fudgey the Whale, I don't think I've ever encountered one.

I think the mysteries of Carvel may have to be revisited some day.

Just in time for Christmas, we unwrap the past and take a look at one of the most infamous “event” video games ever: E.T. for the Atari 2600. Did you know Atari knocked together a pretty sweet little holiday commercial for this baby? One feels that, perhaps, the commercial was given considerably more thought that the game itself.

As we are fast approaching Game Done Quick, I thought it might be fun to watch the current Super Mario Brothers world record speedrun to see if there was any wisdom to be gleaned from darbian's performance. I'm not sure there was, but we did get to talk about Mario and alternate dimensions so I consider that a complete success.

Remember that brief period in the 90s when Wizards of the Coast tried to make Magic: The Gathering cool? Yeah, well, they did. To do this, they made this commercial.

Free your mind, friends.

Do you remember Cheetos Paws? They were like Cheetos...but paws. Very controversial amongst the Cheetos set. The texture, they would wail into the night. The texture!

Tiger Electronics! Arcade action in the palm of your hand! Or...not? I dunno, I had the watch versions of a couple of Mario games that were basically the same thing as the Tiger handhelds and they got me through many a boring church service as a child. Forget an Apple watch, just give me that sweet Mario action.

Yeah, that's such a weird picture. I don't..I don't really know what they were going for there.

I also realized I didn't know anything about Beverly Hills 90210 because we watched the show's themesong on loop for this week's episode. Also, surprising no one, we are now publicly bad at math.

As a kid, I had no friggin' idea that 90210 was supposed to be starring teens (I never watched the show, only saw commercials. I thought it was just another soap opera which...I guess isn't quite wrong? in any case say what you will about degrassi, it's not white as fresh january snow like this show is)

Yeah, muteKi, I have no idea about 90210. I kind of want to see an episode now, but I'm not sure I want to see it enough to actually watch it. Degrassi, though, that's in crosshairs for sure.

Onto this week's ep, keeping with the general zeitgeist of the time, we dredged Dragon Ball Z out of its grave for this episode to watch the Toonami-era opening theme on loop. Plus, inspired by our Cheetos Paws episode, we eat a packing peanut!

At the request of Talking Time's very own muteKi, this week, we watch:

Hands down the best part of Square One. Thank you muteKi, for your very wise suggestion. I'm not sure we're any better at math, but at least we got to watch MathMan?

This week we're watching a Juicy Fruit snowboarding commercial because wiping out on a snowboard isn't dangerous enough without the added threat of choking on gum.

Do you guys remember the Screen Savers on TechTV/ZDTV? It was one of my favorite shows at the time, which I think maybe tells you where both TV and I were at in the late 90s.

Patrick Norton was the guy you were thinking of (not actually related to Norton Internet Security despite the similarity in name). While Leo has been doing tech podcasts for a while (This Week in Tech aka TWiT), they actually started a (weekly) revival of The New Screen Savers that shows up on Youtube.
