Default Hold on did Wild ARMS rip this off I need to know right now

So I started back up playing "Treasure of the Rudras", and feelin' pretty good about my decision to do so, as I cruised around on an anti-gravity train made out of rocks, only to end up at a floating island inhabited by merfolk, when the merfolks' town theme kicked in, and it was all

And I was like wait wait wait wait that sounds an awful lot like

Right?

Right?

For a moment I was sure this was going to be about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, which we all know is something I will NEVER EVER SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT so really we should all be grateful that wasn't the case.

That is pretty eerie, but "ripped off" is so loaded. It could be the Wild Arms theme was inspired by this line in the Rudra's song, or it could be spontaneous arrival at the same basic idea.

WILD ARMS's intro is so good it sent ripples through time, changing the otherwise boring merfolk theme from Treasure of the Rudras.

Sadly, we will never hear what the merfolk theme was originally meant to be, because of time ripple shenanigans.

I definitely hear the similarity, but nah. I can't bring any other examples to mind ATM, but I've definitely had this experience with other pieces in the past. Sometimes things sound similar!

I think it was just going for a particular style, and it ended up adjacent to it.

Treasure of the Rudras is a fantastic game, though, with loads of killer tracks. If you're looking for a great 16-bit RPG that we didn't get in the States, this foots the bill.

Those both sound like two distinct entities to me. They only share that Sergio Leone western vibe but both go about it differently. That one rising-high-note whatchamacallit is the only real similarity but I think the high note is different between the two tunes.

The wild arms track is way bestest. I should probably look into both of these games...

Yeah, there's no foul play going on here. In fact, I would go so far as to say they don't really sound that similar at all. Wild Arms has a more western, Ecstasy of Gold feel to it. The Rudras song has a more militaristic feel to it.

I mean, if you want blatant infringement the Wild ARMs 1 world map theme is right there.

I also use it as my ringtone, haha.

Wild ARMS is one of the best intros in all of gaming. Michiko Naruke NAILED the song. The animation is fantastic. And I should actually play the game sometime lol.

I don't think the song is ripping off Wild Arms, despite a similar style of sound.

On a similar note, I also don't think the Persona games were ripping off the Wild Swans Ballet Suite by Elena Kats-Chernin despite it feeling as if it could easily be dropped into any of the modern Persona games. (This is really just an excuse to mention how similar the Persona music sounds to this composition.)

Alter Code F is pretty good. The opening movie sucks, though, compared to the original. At least the awesome music is still there, though.

I watched Let's Plays of both original Wild ARMs and Alter Code F one right after the other and I gotta say it looked like the original was more fun to play but that halfassed mid-nineties RPG translation was nigh incomprehensible compared to the later rewrite.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Media Vision's staff at the time was from the Lufia dev team.

Wild Arms had a fantastic soundtrack, the only problem is the game is really, really long, so by about halfway through it just kind of runs out of music.

Also if we're talking blatant Morricone steals, you couldn't get more blatant than this:

This actually from Illusion Of Gaia, but again, pretty blatant!
