Hey, I assumed that we weren't playing tonight since there was only one confirmed player as of earlier today. I should have posted something, sorry. I'm free after 6 Central on Sunday, Monday, or Wednesday if one of those would work instead?

Monday is best for me, but I can do Sunday this week, and I might be free on Wednesday.

Count me in for today. That's at least 3 with Turtle and Grunt. Who else wants some?

Hey all, I've been thinking about this a lot and I've decided to end the campaign. The appeal of The West Marches style is that it works around players schedules, but it also requires a DM who has a ton of free time, or a number of DMs to share the responsibility. I tried to re-tool things after taking a break, but we're basically back to square one working around a bunch of schedules. It's really difficult on my end to try to keep days open because I'm not sure when we're going to play, and all of you have your own stuff going on. Unfortunately, that's just the nature of trying to keep a regular RPG going as adults.

Still, we had 14 people make D&D characters and we played 12 sessions, which is a lot better than nothing. You are all extremely funny & creative and I'm glad that I got a chance to make some settings for your characters to explore and monsters for your characters to beat up. I had fun and learned a ton about how to build and run an open world, wilderness areas, and a few dungeons. Also, my apologies to anyone who didn't get to play as much as they wanted, and especially to those who didn't get to play at all. Thanks so much to everyone who participated in any way! It's possible that I'll get motivated to run some one shots or short adventures down the road, too.

And, one last thing:

One morning when exiting The Dancing Lights Inn (or stumbling out of The Three Moons Tavern) you notice a mysterious purple tent set up not far from the teleportation circle at the center of the outpost. When you pull back the curtain covering the entrance, you find an old woman seated at a table holding a deck of cards. She asks you how many you would like to draw...

Feel free to pick 0, 1, 2, or 3 cards. I'll send out a PM to everyone who has made a character to see if they want to participate. There are 22 cards in the deck, so make sure to leave a few for anyone who wants them. Once everyone has decided how many to draw I'll use a randomizer and let you each know your character's fate.

With my metagamingly knowing my wife's seldom-seen warlock won't show up for this either, Bell takes three.

Befitting her status as sorceress-come-lately, Wil will take whatever's left after everyone else has had a turn, up to the max.

Echo will pass. The path of the wizard is a slow one, and he has become mistrusting of both gambling and shortcuts.

Thanks for games, guys. I don't actually hang out here, but really enjoyed being able to share in this.

Mag looks suspiciously at the deck and hesitantly takes one card.

Then he takes another, 'cause what the heck.

+1 for Umby.

I'm planning to draw the cards at Noon (Central time) on Monday, or whenever I've heard back from everyone who made a character, whichever comes first.

Cheyrn, Bell, Wil, Mag, and Draugma line up in front of the tent. Once they have chosen how many cards they each want, the old woman begins to draw from the deck.

Cheyrn receives the STAR and DONJON cards. One of his ability scores is increased by 2 and he feels noticeably more powerful! However, seconds later he is transported to an extradimensional sphere where he is entombed in suspended animation. The only way to locate the prison is through a Wish Spell. Oh no! The rest of the group begins to look noticeably more nervous.

Bell receives the ROGUE, TALONS, and COMET cards. Someone in town is now hostile toward her, and also her magic items (if any) disintegrate! However, if she wins the next fight single-handedly she will gain a full level. The shop keep from The Flying Sword General Store comes charging out of his door straight at Bell!

Wil receives the FLAMES, FOOL, and KNIGHT cards. She has upset a powerful Devil, who will seek to do everything they can to ruin her life before killing her! She also loses 10,000 XP, but as she is level 1 it has no effect on her. The old woman immediately draws again, giving Wil the VIZIER card. Anytime in the next year Wil can ask a question in meditation and gain a truthful answer along with the wisdom to apply it. Finally, a 4th level Knight appears nearby and vows to serve her until death, believing that the fates have drawn him to her.

Mag receives the KEY and MOON cards. An Oathbow appears in his hands, and also he is granted the ability to cast Wish twice. Wow!

And finally, Draugma receives the BALANCE card. His mind suffers a wrenching alteration, causing his alignment to change! Good becomes evil, law becomes chaos, and vice versa. Regardless, he continues to shout whenever he speaks.

I'm pretty certain Bell didn't have so much as a potion to disintegrate. And everyone hates kenku anyway! So despite her greed nothing really changes.

I'm sure that's not a metaphor at all.

Wil would have eventually hacked off a devil somehow anyway, or I would have been playing her wrong. Plus hey, free knight.

Hey guys, did you see? The found a will & testament from that guy who rushed me, and since he didn't have any heirs he just signed off his entire estate to whoever could best him in combat! Isn't that crazy? Look, it even has his seal stamped in wax and everything, and he had that seal shut up in a little secret compartment in the back of one of the drawers in his office desk so it was a bitch to find you know it's authentic! Crazy, huh?

Per the DONJON card, a wish is needed to locate him. However, the mage Poets agree to help you out. With the help of a few adventurers and with only a few minor injuries you are able to retrieve him from his prison.

Weren't you building a base in an abandoned tower? You could definitely take over his shop if you'd like. Aelusk needs a general goods store.

Given what's happened, I feel pretty validated for playing Caroline as enough of a coward to be suspicious even of Tarot card.
