Huh, that's totally different from my experience. I just got to Altissia at level 47 or so. I feel like I have to work pretty hard to fight well, including sprinkling in high powered magic attacks. Whittling everything down with weapons seems to take forever in comparison. But I also don't feel like I'm just taking hits and spamming items to survive either.

Also I just did a boss where having magic equipped allowed me to do a Defend>Parry>Magic Counter QTE thing and it was fucking badass.

You still get the magic counter QTEs without having magic equipped.

You ever run into a pack of heavy-hitting heal spamming coeurls, or get ambushed by necromancers in a cave, or engage in smackdowns with enemies at night? Hitting weaknesses with magic can be a LIFESAVER, especially with a Quintcast catalyst.

Also it can be handy for quickly wiping out large groups. I'm not saying you need magic to win, but learning to utilize it well makes for much more efficient play.

I critical pathed the game (more or less. Think I did 20 quests total), so the only one of those I even encountered was the fight with the Zoidbergs and that was one of my deaths.

Pitioss is done, save for a few sparkles I'm guaranteed to go back for. That place practically has a game's worth of puzzle dungeon design packed into it, and it's mind-bending in all the right ways.

Default The real treasure was experiencing the dungeon

I don't know if I need to avoid Pitioss spoilers, but you know that thing you jump on and it falls down? Does it reset when you go back in or do you need to take a shortcut to advance past that part again?

It resets.

Also, I'm positive I tracked down every last sparkle last night, but then I dreamt that there were a bunch I didn't get and that I had to go back again. Harrowing.

Also where do you spend ascension coins? I've been taking the game VERY slowly if that wasn't clear, I'm currently en route to Caem.

There's a dude in Altissia. He's near the Justice Monsters V machine that costs 10k gil a pop.

The biggest prize from Coins is getting a Ribbon for 40 coins.

There's a dude in Chapter 9 when you visit Altissia who will trade you stuff for the coins.

I imagined Gladio's sister would be even bigger and stronger than him, then I get to Magic Cuba and it's just some teenage girl with a pixie cut. Sigh.

If you want to be even more disappointed the final chapter mentions that in the timeskip she's become a badass demon hunter, pretty much the strongest one in the world. But you never get to actually see that.

Aranea's still at it, too. But you don't get to see her, either, so there's no telling whether she still wears the armored tank top.

If the multiplayer expansion takes place in the ten years Noct is gone, something I have no proof of but totally think will happen, I imagine they'll appear there.

She's great, I'll have you know. She's also AMAZING as a temporary party member. Her drop-kicks are the things of legend

Man. So I met Aranea last night. She's alright I guess. *heart eyes* And kicked my ass up and down until I figured out the trick. I died once cause I was absolutely positive it was a fight you were supposed to lose. It's cool there are randos who can kick Nocts ass in a head on fight, and that isn't sarcasm. I like how it reenforces his role as prince who has a lot to learn.

More reasons why I like this game so much, it basically plays to the two things I love most in visual media: completely over the top insane action spectacle bullshit and quiet moments of tender character development. I legit haven't felt this way about a Final Fantasy since 7, and I am saying that as One of Those 7 Kids.

I've been playing it slowly and without any guides aside from this thread, which is why I have so many basic questions, but I'd rather ask people, it just feels more right in the context of enjoying it like an old game.

Most people reading this probably won't remember who Loqi is, but I was surprised he doesn't even have an entry on the FF wiki. Now I just feel bad for him. How forgettable do you have to be that nerds won't meticulously record your existence?

Hi, pretty new at this game. Just got into the 20s of levels.

I noticed that a quest to upgrade a weapon required a "Rusted Bit", so I figure if a rusted bit is a key item, then nothing is safe. Is that right? Can I safely sell nothing!? If not, which treasures are safe to sell, and which aren't?

Anyway, enjoying this game a lot more than I was the first ten levels or so.

No upgrade is duplicative; which is to say, as long as you don't sell the last copy of an item, you're fine.

So if you have 94 Rusted Bit and 6 Sky Gemstone, you're safe if you sell all but 1 of each. No one item is used for multiple upgrades.

That said, some items are used as catalysts for elemancy and are more valuable there. Look in your elemancy menu for that.

Was there a trick to it? I just kept warp striking up in the air and she kept jumping higher and I thought we were eventually going to break through the upper bounds of the atmosphere.

It's been a while since I did that fight, but I think I ended up mostly staying on the ground, letting her dragoon-jump at me and then doing the block/counter for some sweet link-strike damage. Also managed to get in a few Blindside links if she was staggered or distracted, but that was tough to pull off.
