There are optional fights in the final chapter against foes that are like, lvl 71, lvl 86, etc. But you can just walk/sneak around those or runaway, and the fights you can't avoid are easy peasy. Especially when you're encouraged forced to abuse summons during bosses for le epic cinematic ending. I went into the final battle at lvl 69 () and had the biggest cakewalk of a finale since abusing Aura in FF8.

We seem to be playing the same. I just hit Lv 30 in Chapter 2 and haven't been to Lestallum yet.

Also, I think I'm going to be listening to "Dancing Mad" forever now. See, I made it my mission to get through all the soundtracks in order and I just recently got up to FFVI. But the quests are scattered all over now so I'm doing more fast travel than I used to. In addition to the fact that this reduces car radio time, it seems like if you do it a bunch the game sometimes forgets to keep your place in the current track and starts it over from the beginning next time you start non-fast-travel driving. And since Dancing Mad is like, what, 15 minutes long... yeah.

I guess maybe I could turn on the portable player and see if it manages to get through it without resetting? If I can remember the button to turn that on...

L2

or, and this is just a crazy idea, or you could drive around manually until it's done

or just forward to the next track

Just never fast travel anywhere. I don't fast travel because the AP racks up if you unlocked the car ride node in the Asc grid. Accrual is slow but not as slow as you would think, considering some of these car rides now.

There's also the added bonus of being able to pull the car over in certain areas, one-shot the monsters with warp-strikes, and gather even more AP since a warp-strike kill tends to give you AP.

There are also landmarks, quests, events, interesting things, photo ops, etc that occur along the roads, and the more often you fast travel the less often you'll see cool shit and be inspired to turn down the side path to see what's there.

Its exactly as slow as you'd think, because it takes more time.

This was exactly my feeling for the first 55+ hours I was playing

then I hit a point where I didn't want to watch animu boys drive a car for 10 minutes to go from the Vesperpool to Galdin Quay again

Now I take the shortcut only if the load time for the fast travel would definitively exceed the drive time; any trip over 3 minutes gets skipped via this method.

the most efficient AP-farming method is using the monster summon whistle to summon monsters you can one-shot warp-strike kill over and over and over again. You get 1 AP for roughly every minute spent in the car; it's not nothin over the course of the game (so I'd recommend people unlock that and the Chocobo riding one early), but it's not exactly the secret to crazayyyy fast AP gainz

Oh you definitely shouldn't ALWAYS do it. But if you're gonna manual, there are bonus advantages besides soundtrack.

I'm pretty sure the AP gain while driving, is about 1 AP/min, and that's totally not worth your time to go out of the way and do on a regular basis if there are alternatives. There's much more efficient ways to farm AP. You get the skill early on though, because you do have to drive a decent amount during the game. But there's no reason to drive more than necessary just because of that.

Last time I did fast travel it slingshotted me out of the car into the big empty NW section of the map beyond the invisible walls. The only way out was to fast travel back to the car (and pray).

The design of Pitioss Dungeon is creative, complicated, and looks awesome in motion. I don't know if it really need these pinpoint jumps and narrow walkways.

I looked up oyakodon on wiki and it described it's naming as poetic, but it's not the type of poetry I want to think of if I were eating the dish.

I wonder what, if anything, the Pitioss Ruins are supposed to be.

Oh yeah, this is me we're talking about, I explore everything. I had literally driven every foot of available road, mostly with frequent stops to check things out, before I started fast traveling anywhere.

But then I unlocked a crap-load of quests based in Lestallum at once, and wanted to clear out as many dead-easy ones as possible before bedtime, so fast travel it is, just for the moment.

In addition to the AP, driving also spares you a loading screen!

So what do you need for maximum story coherence, just Kingsglaive? I snagged that 35 dollar copy on Amazon so I'll be playing this v soon.

Kingsglaive for story coherence, Brotherhood for character context.

I have not actually watched either, so take this lightly.

Most places you'll be driving to are 2mins or longer, in which case the load screens are - while long - significantly shorter wait. Meanwhile, you might miss 5 AP for fast traveling that 5min drive. But you can more than make up for it by either making sure your last hit is a warp-strike or link-strike versus all the enemies you fight at your destination.

Or you could drive it for the AP and get the AP from the warp-strike kills.

Driving also lets me slowly but steadily work on my fishing skill by stopping at all the little spots along the routes, and it's a good excuse to shit on Reapers and Iron Giants whenever the sun goes down.

Speaking of Iron Giants, I found myself betwixt two enemy battle zones somewhere in Alstor Slough, in which three Iron Giants spawned and a group of Magitek assassins with a Magitek armor. After killing the giants or killing the Magiteks, the other group would have already respawned, so I ended up killing about 6 Iron Giants, a myriad assassins, and three walkers by the time I was finished; the XP was glorious.

I was just gonna settle for the base game so I would have cash for Hitman or the DLC, but Target had the Deluxe Edition with the pretty metal case and stupid tie-in movie so I figured what the hell?

Anyway, that's most of my $100 gone. I'll start the game soon, watch the movie later.

Two things about this game that bug me - I hate the stamina bar/sprinting mechanic. I want to just be fast all the time. There's no reason not to be fast. Being slow serves no gameplay function other than to make me very annoyed (because it isn't fast)

I also hate how any time my guys enter a new cave or dungeon, they have to walk through it all slow. Slow isn't fast!

You can be fast all the time, actually. Turn the stamina bar UI on, then let go of the sprint button when your stamina is almost out. He sprints even faster for half a second and refills the entire stamina bar.

For those wondering, AP farming is best done in Three Valleys at the point where five or six enemies are. If you use the monster whistle in that spot, you'll summon a random group of two to four of the same enemies. Using Shield of the Just, one warp strike will kill the whole group in a single shot. Time the next whistle right and you'll skip any victory animation and report card, meaning you can earn 2-4 AP every six seconds or so.

EDIT: This is best done in the daytime as using the monster whistle at night will summon goblins or worse.

Also does anyone know if there are other significant changes with the latest patch? My system has it downloaded but not applied yet.

People keep mentioning this Monster Whistle, should I assume the reason I don't have one is because I'm still in Chapter 3? Or is it hiding somewhere? (Plot-wise I think I'm about to go to Meteor to find out why Titan is giving Noct headaches.)

You'll eventually get the monster whistle just by following the main questline. I'm in Chapter 8 and I know I've had it for a hot minute.

You get it either at the beginning of Ch 4 or Ch 5 or Ch 6 (sorry, they all kinda ran together once we resumed doing plot stuff)
