Default Radio Umby: The Realization!

Thanks to Guild for the amazing logo!

Hey, for those of you who don't know, I'm the friendly neighborhood Umby. I've posted mostly in the Mafia threads, and it was the main reason why I jumped out merely lurking the boards. A select few of you have been on the mafia side of things with me, and those few should remember that I love to share my music with others.

Well, today, it has been confirmed that Radio Umby, as I called it back then, shall become a full fledged realization. I have been FCC Trained to be on air, and as of this coming Saturday, I will be a DJ. However, the specific reason I post it on Talking Time is that this show is called The Arcade. From 3 PM to 5 PM Central every Saturday, my co-DJ (who has been doing this show for about three years now) and I will be playing video game music and remixes for everyone to hear. I will be heading things from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and my co-DJ will be making the playlist for the rest.

That's where you, Talking Time, come in! I want to make this radio show my personal love letter to the forum. Here are the details:

Click on this link and listen live from 3 PM to 5 PM to listen to DJ Gameboy and DJ Miniboss (that's me!) do their thing. Call 225-578-5578 to make a request (and ask for DJ Miniboss or Umby)! Post in this thread and point me to new or long-existing OSTs or video game remix albums that you love. MAKE THIS YOUR SHOW, TT.

The theme for this coming Saturday will be Capcom! I currently have a show of Phoenix Wright, Megaman, and Ducktales, but I could certainly use some more diversity in my half-hour.

What does it take to get FCC licensed anyways these days, just promise you won't describe necrotic genitalia on air?

Half an hour of Pressure Cooker and the field song from Nier with the pretty vocals, got it.

Okay I got that out of my system. Seriously though that's pretty rad stuff, have you considered playing chiptune and squarewave stuff in addition to straight up VGM?

I don't personally have any chiptune or squarewave, but DJ Gameboy has a lot of it. Since we're doing a Capcom themed show, however, I don't know if he'll play some unless YOU REQUEST IT.

And I had to do a worksheet for FCC Training, ok? :P

Thanks for everyone who called in, namely Heron and Destil! I hope everyone else who was listening really enjoyed the show and will tune in next week. I was kind of nervous on air, but I wasn't toooooooo bad.

For those who missed the show or want to hear it again, the playlist has been uploaded to 8 Tracks here!

Any suggestions you guys can make to improve my performance or quality of the show will be appreciated, and make sure to tune in next week and to call in.

First thing to pop into my head is Majora's Mask, but I'm not sure what would be good "radio" music from that.

Doesn't particularly have to be good radio music as much as something that will evoke an image from gamers, although being good radio music isn't so bad.

i.e. I'm probably using the background music from the Giygas fight in Earthbound for one of my talkbreaks!

Ghosts'n Goblins is the obvious choice for Halloween-type music.

I keep thinking of something from Silent Hill 1 or 2 but most of the music in the games that I enjoy are the less creepy ones (or on the more melancholy end of things). Though some of the bosses' themes from either of them might work.

The fact that the song is from Silent Hill may be enough. I'll look into obtaining their soundtracks for my NEFARIOUS WORK

Currently rooting through Amnesia: Dark Descent music!

Ohhhhhh yes, this playlist is downright spooky, mysterious, and moody! Get ready for the Halloween special of your lives. (I may have used some things from the REMIX THUNDERDOME, so sue me. :P )
