Anyone who likes can pick up SEAM and go further with it. I got my participation trophy and I'm happy. Have fun with .12!

Here is my entry for BaBe.

10 Runes and a streak with the FoAM. Got teleportitis 2 and screaming 3 from Mnoleg. Swapped TSO to Zin to clear the bad muts, but Zin doesn't do that anymore I guess, so that pretty much stalled the run. Got Lom's rune with Zin and teleportitis and that was an ugly time, so I called it. Some people may have been able to get 15 runes with this character, but... it ain't me, BaBe.

As a bonus, I found some new words:

BaWn - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bawn

Here is a BaWn with all of 109 points.

MiSu - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misu

I have't run this yet, but I can tell you that MiSu is delicious.

EDIT: MiSu with 4,283.

Decided to try out Sif after finding an altar on floor 2.

Think it's going well so far (yeah, the HP and Str are a bit concerning). Going to try cracking into extended with this guy. Pan I think will be the easiest? Any of the areas that don't allow stairdancing are concerning to me, I suppose I need some better ways to get back MP and maybe one of the big necromancy emergency spells?

Mostly rocking the Death Channel / Ignition / Zombie Hands combo, though I just got firestorm and crystal spear online.

Edit: also just realized the rPois on my shield was redundant, so I swapped for a +3 reflect, freeing up my amulet slot. How good is Magic Regeneration with Sif? Or should I just take Vitality?

Be very careful with that combo! There's a glitch in the game where if you kill someone with an AOE spell like Fireball, while DChan is up, it will kill the monster, spawn the ghost, and then hit them with the same attack, immediately turning the ghost hostile before you can do anything about it. Upgrading to Infestation is the best bet.

Sif Muna Channeling is also pretty good, especially if you activate it when you're running low but not out of MP. Also, if you activate Divine Energy, you probably have functionally infinite MP. HP recovery stuff is definitely good, though... I dunno if I trust Borgnjor's with a deep elf, though--they're already frail enough as is. I feel like a GTFO spell is better than a healing spell, especially with the lack of those in the game. This ain't Nethack, ladies and germs.

Yeah, I saw that the first time I used the combo. Usually I end up with one or two hostile ghosts on rare occasions and the rest of my horde tears them apart. Think it got me in trouble once on Zot 3 where i was trapped in a narrow spot for a few long rounds waiting for the -Cast to go away, but it wasn't that dangerous, just some draconian. Blinked out then used Shadow Creatures to finish the job.

Divine Energy is amazing, been abusing it since like D5 once I figured out how it worked. Was originally going to switch to Vehumet once I learned all of the spells, but I really like having any spell on tap in a bad spot so I think Sif and I are going to the end together.

The DChan issue doesn't affect Ignition, though.

anyway i'd absolutely take vitality, Regen+ is way too good

maybe enchant those boots up?

....On the one hand, I'd think that, because Ignition is programmed not to touch you or your allies. On the other hand, I feel like I've had hostile ghosts spawn out of Ignition in my own games?

You definitely don't need MP regen as much as you need the extra 15hp, though. +Regen doesn't hurt, either. And yeah, between Channeling and Divine Energy, you really don't need much more. There's a reason I rocked Sif Muna all the way through during The Run.

I'll echo the sentiment for Vitality for the amulet slot. That coupled with Borgnjor's Revivification and the Regen spell should be pretty good for quick mp while not tanking your health.

Any chance you could give us a full character dump? Just hit # in game to get the link.

Definitely vitality for the amulet.

I'd ditch hat of the alchemist for something that gives AC. -5 or 6 AC versus a helmet is just too much. Can always swap it back on for lom etc.

A couple things that would help a lot in extended: staff of energy and 10 or so evo, as sif's channel is great but in case piety runs low, and weapon skill/weapon if you don't already have one. You don't want to have to burn MP on popcorn.

But then I wouldn't have max resists! I haven't found any energy staffs.

True, but AC resists almost everything; certainly much more than rF or rC do. And you can shore up with resist potions against the really dangerous stuff.

Sif's channeling should be enough to get you by; just be careful if piety starts getting low.

Continuation of that: a HOMo win streaked on that last one. Turns out Saint Roka the iron giant is nigh-invincible and really powerful. Who knew?

Thanks for the dump. I was thinking of the wrong spell. I would recommend learning Sublimation of Blood and Regeneration. You cast Sublimation to regain MP via your HP pool, and then cast Regen to gain the HP back. A bit dangerous in actual combat, but very useful in keeping your MP maxed out while exploring, especially in the Hells where you can't really rest.

He probably raised Roka via Beogh.

And he mentioned that a Zot trap poly'd him, so I think maybe the game set him to "Roka, iron giant" before realizing "oh wait he's friendly" so it registered Roka as an enemy to be Noticed.

Exactly as turtle said: found and killed Saint Roka. Resurrected him with the Beogh ability. Then he stepped on a zot trap and got polymorphed...which maybe made him be noticed again?

Not sure; he was definitely friendly, resurrected Saint Roka for at least a few turns before he became an iron giant. It also led to an amusing bug(?) where the level I was on, no matter what, was annotated with "Saint Roka", then it would move when I moved levels. You'll notice it was D:1 at the end of the game.

It was fun, I kind of wish you could polymorph enemies at will to get results like that...but that would be kind of nethack-ish.

Got the Abyss Rune!

Also bought the +3 hat of Pondering {ponderous, MR+ MP+10 Int+5}.

But I also managed to pick up HP-10% (didn't realize darkness caused contamination), and when I drank a mutation potion to remove it I instead got +10% MP (and got rid of something else bad, I forget what).

HOCK win.

On the whole, Xom is pretty good, but then sometimes he turns you into a bat while you're fighting a juggernaut.

DECK win!

First Xom/Chaos Knight win. Finally found a book of Annihilations in the Slime vault for Crystal Spear and then a book of Power in Zot for Orb of Destruction.

The most danger Xom put me in was berserking me near some tentacle monstrosities on Zot:1. I was able to teleport out just in time. Otherwise he didn't cause too much trouble and gave me a really good set of mutations for the majority of the game.

Nicely done! That's a good deal more impressive (at least to me) than HOCK.

My HOCK win takes a few points from LK and Gerad, but while that makes things a lot closer, no one has actually pulled ahead in points. Crut is the big winner this update.

Feels like DECK should automatically worship Nemelex. I bet Xom would approve.

HuSk win! This was my first Human, Skald, and Nemelex Xobeh win!

Nemelex seemed like a pretty good god, but as the game went on I was using decks less and less. I think finding the Autumn Katana really helped me wean off deck usage. Most of my late game usage was drawing summoning decks as meatshields for escapes to recover.

Autumn katana is a beast. I switched from unarmed to it once half as a joke and surprisingly didn't really regret it!

I'm only barely into the railbird chat and already I have a new favorite quote:

"Railbird80: this game has had a lot of shops, but the gold is hard to accrue."

Perhaps the same could be said of life itself!
