Jingle Beeps - Video game Christmas Carols

Did you look out of the window at falling snow and have the music to some ice level or another pop into your head?

This thread is to celebrate the soulful snow stage symphonies that always give a sense of peace, even as you slip off the edge to your doom.

I'll start it off slow and add a few a day, since I know when I'm presented with a huge list at once, my eyes just roll back into my head and I end up skipping all of them.

Earthbound's Winters
Whenever I see snow falling, I hear the sleigh bells from the beginning of this tune.

Mother's Snowman
A classic, somewhat haunting song.

DKC's sole ice level has an exciting yet gentle feel.

Feel free to add your favorites.

There's a part in Serious Sam when you go through some huge double doors, get to a beautiful white landscape ... And this music plays while you slaughter enemies.

JAZZ JACKRABBIT (by EPIC MEGAGAMES) had a Christmas-themed spin-off. I remember the music to that being pretty good.

This song is amazing.
Now I need to think of a good one to add.....

Secret of Mana - A Wish

While it isn't exactly what you're asking for, still, prepare to make all sorts of new videogame/Christmas associations (Youtube version).

This thread needs The 8 bits of Christmas. It's the second album on that page, above the Axel F remix album.

Tanto 12-08-2008 07:16 PM

Dudes.

The Merry Code.

(Also, I've always associated the Walrus Cove music from Diddy Kong Racing with Christmas... This may be because I like that game more than it deserves.)

mrbuu82 12-08-2008 07:55 PM

Starcraft's 12 Days of Christmas

Goldeneye N64's Severnaya Installation

TMNT 2, Scene 3 (not so much the music, but the level just encapsulates my thoughts on winter)

Bongo 12-08-2008 08:14 PM

Banjo-Kazooie's Freezeezy Peak.

Balrog 12-08-2008 08:49 PM

"Antidote" from FFT plays during a snow battle, it's one of my favorites in the game.

Whenever it snows with those big flakes, I always think (and often comment aloud) that it's Donkey Kong Country weather. The song that comes to mind is the one in the blizzard level (not the ice cave one), where the snow gradually builds up.

JCDenton 12-09-2008 09:30 AM

Super Mario Sleigh Ride by the 1ups and some other people.

Edit: Perhaps I should check the links more carefully before posting again. Sorry q 3!

No need to add my favorite, you already did.

JCDenton 12-09-2008 09:55 AM

Phendrana Drifts, Metroid Prime. It embodies the "Snow Level Music" for me.

It's been so long that I played this game that I forgot that there were snow levels. I only remembered the Ice cave since the music's so damn good.

So, I've got a few more for you today. You know, Mega Man didn't have as many Ice bosses as you may think:

Ice Man
Blizzard Man
Freeze Man
Chill Penguin
Crystal Snail (admittedly a stretch, but I think the music's icy).

I may not have realized this if I weren't digging through all my NSF's files for ice music, but there's a small part of Phendrana Drifts that sounds remarkably similar to a part of Blaster Master's Ice area.

Oh! My shame knows no bounds!

When Tomm listens to Christmas carols, he includes this in the playlist.

Brick gets down with some tunes from his famous LP's.

And everyone loves Kirby!

Okay, this topic seriously needs a revival.

And this is the best I can come up with.

I came in here to post that, actually. It changes gears so many times (from jubilant to borderline reverence), that it touches on everything I like about Christmas music without using any of the lyrics that make it so predictable.

Red Hedgehog 12-13-2008 08:49 PM

Christmas Lemmings!

(Ugh, the DOS version is painful. Couldn't someone have Youtubed the Mac or Amiga versions?)

Ooh, very nice!

I always thought Sasha's theme from AWDS was too Christmasy for normal BGM.

Also the site Slightlydark has tons of these around this time every year, here's their sixth Xmas game music "mix album". The earlier ones are available on the music page for a month or so.

Dynastic Bird 12-14-2008 10:31 AM

I didn't seek another Christmas Nights thing, but it's a nice stumble upon if nothing else >_>.

liquid 12-14-2008 02:18 PM

I've always enjoyed the Ice Cap Zone's music.

Part two.

McClain 12-14-2008 02:33 PM

Secret of Mana Ice Country.

If you dig Ice Cap Zone, you should definitely check out That Freezing Feeling, from the OCRemix album Project Chaos.

I swear, OCRemix is full of great Christmas ones. And this one is actually from an ice level!

My lord...didn't we say there were a lot more good ice songs?

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos - Winter levels

What am I doing thinking about winter? F U ICE!

gjdwhat 12-15-2008 05:27 AM

Not to throw off the mood or anything, because this isn't much of a Christmas carol, but most mornings in winter, especially the ones where I can see the ice through our apartment window, I think of this.
